I remember riding the anthills in 1990, when I first began riding. It was quite different then. It was just some dirt trails off Enclave and Eldridge, and my it has changed a lot. I'm coming off both knee and spine surgery, and still have two torn rotary cuffs, but I have just dusted off the old Trek Fuel and at 57, I will be back at it in the matter of a month of so. I am stoked, and your video helped me to get there. I can taste it.
I rode at the Anthills for the first time back in 1999. It's changed a lot since then. Most of the features in this video are still in good shape thanks to the dedicated crew. There's some new stuff as well. Good luck on your road to recovery. Take it easy out there!
Anthills is definitely a very unique and fun trail system. Just remember that some of these features are not for beginners at all and are marked as advanced features (heck some of them should be considered black diamond). More importantly, there are many hikers on these trails too so be respectful and always watch out. Great video man!
Is any of it for beginners? I can do everything at Sugarland minus the jumps. I can ride over them and get a little air by that's about it. That stuff at Anthills looks 😱
@@AceGoodheart I started mtb at the anthills and fell in love with it. There are definitely beginner features there. If you can do sugarland then you’ll love the anthills.
Looks like your surrounded by some top tier trails! So good to see that you have a strong crew of trail builders to put together some crazy features 👍👍
The trail crew has really stepped up their game. They have built a lot of rad stuff just in the past 18 months or so. They have more in the works. Stay tuned...
Ant Hills is truly the most challenging trails in H-town! Thanks for sharing this video with all the exciting/terrifying features. It's fun to recognize a few people. I always enjoy your shreds!
Thanks Elizabeth! We are fortunate to have several great trail systems in the area. All are unique and fun to shred. If your looking for gnar, head to the Anthills! Can't wait to see what new features will be built in the future!
@@JefcoMTB , believe it or not I used to ride Anthills in the early 90's! I was in 20's and fearless. First on an old Diamondback, then my fully rigid G Fisher. Those were the days!
Thanks Daniel! I used Epidemic Sound for royalty free music. UA-cam is strict about copyright rules but they have a good selection of tunes. Thanks for watching!
Dave's Leg is outside the scope of this countdown lol. If I ever do a top 10 most dangerous features at Anthills it will probably be in the top spot. I'll bring the camera if you want to send it! 🤘🤘🤘
That creek gap - Dave's Leg, is definitely worthy of a top 10 list. Kind of outside the scope of this one. Not a top 10 favorite for me since I haven't even sent that widow maker. Maybe top 10 gnarliest gap jumps in Texas? Let's do it Jimduro!
Lol, I have had my share of injuries over the years. One of the worst was due to a failure to pre-ride...so follow Jefco's pro tip and always pre-ride, re-ride then free-ride! Keep on shreddin'!
Not familiar with Team Smack. Crankaholics ride there and the build crew is just the Anthills Minions. Still working through some issues with the Harris County Flood Dept. but it is looking like Anthills will be a legit trail in the near future!
@@JefcoMTB Team Smack was a rag tag group of Houston MTBers back in the day. A lot of us rode the Anthills on the regular and worked on the trails, etc... A couple of the folks involved were the first ones to start building jumps and features near what we called "the bowl", which I'm pretty sure is the "beyond" section you have talked about. If you've ever seen the Cookie vs Sporkie thing, that was a Team Smack production, lol. TBF, it's been years since all that, so all the folks might be gone now. We moved out of state in 07 and I haven't kept up with most of the folks in subsequent years.
At my skill level I'd be afraid to do any of that. It looks fun, but in the back of my mind all I'm thinking is broken bones and/or broken bike. Wish there was something like this except smaller jumps for beginners to develop their skills. I plan on making me some jumps at my house to practice on and then hopefully i can start doing some of that stuff at Anthills.
Most of the lines I featured in the Top 10 are intermediate to advanced level. Anthills has some beginner friendly lines as well. You can also bypass any crazy stuff on the trail. You should check it out! Just take your time and have fun. Thanks for watching!
The Anthill mountain bike trails run parallel with the Buffalo Bayou on the south side. There are upper and lower sections with a variety of features in each direction. All of the advanced features can be bypassed. If you aren't comfortable riding a section you can also walk it.

Wow. That place has changed A LOT since I was last there in the early-mid 00s. Great job trail gnomes!

Will there be a video for CCMTB
On my list! That would be fun trails and features to film! I'm definitely a fan of CC.
Are any of the old Team Smack guys involved with these trails?

Which part of the Anthills is the Dog Pound located?
Between Dairy Ashford and Kirkwood. About half way probably.

Thank you for the video! Where do I park for this trail?
There is a parking lot on the south side of the Buffalo Bayou on Dairy Ashford. Go check it out!!
What are the trail conditions currently?
Needing some love after the hurricane lol

What's the best beginner trail at anthills?

Just got doing ant hill and my right femur is paying the price lol
Hope you didn't crash!
How to visit the MTB park? Is it open?
It's open now! Go get some 🤘🤘
Thanks
What about the REAL creek gap?
You mean the "Widow Maker" or "Death Gap"? That will be featured in my top 10 most dangerous gap jumps video lol.
@@JefcoMTB Lol I would never try it 😂
These are not beginner trails but I aint no B!t%h so ill still ride them even if I bust my ass I'm down for it 😂🤟🏼
