Everyone saying Cory Monteith should have not have received a separate memorial because of they way he died should be ashamed of themselves. He had a profound impact on Hollywood and deserved the beautiful words Jane Lynch said about him, regardless of how he passed.
2013 Emmy In Memoriam Every 34 people died in 2013!!! But 14 people died in 2012: Larry Hagman Alan Kirschenbaum Lois Smith Emily Squires Russell Means Charles Durning Harry Carey, Jr. Steve Sabol Alex Karras Jack Klugman Jenni Rivera Emanuel Steward Deborah Raffin Andy Williams
A bit surprised on the 2010 Emmy tribute sportscaster Dave Diles and Allen Swift got mentioned but happily many of the Emmy judges knew Swift voiced Tooter Turtle on The King And Odie Show!
I felt giving more time to Cory Monteith, and 3 other actors was unfair to many of the actors who passed this year. They all should have been equally recognized.
There were so many this year who had given decades of entertainment to us that I wish they would have cut some of the lengthy, no meaning skits to give proper recognition to the wonderful people who left.
I'm all for giving a great tribute to Jean Stapleton. She was a big part of an American classic. Honestly, I didn't even know Cory Montieth. I remember the year that they gave a tribute to the Jack Ass guy and totally ignored Jeff Conaway. The emmys are hit and miss each year. I think that they did well last year, but this year was the pits.
Here's what I learned from 5'3" sweetie Annette Funicello: after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis she came down with a severe bronchitis attack and had to be placed on ice TO QUIET HER NASTY BRONCHITIS COUGHS! What she taught me: MS is worsened by viral infections.
@@kdohertygizbur He got it because he had worked on TV so he was eligible. As to the Oscars the next year him getting it was he was an honorary member of the DGA so that qualified him.

the director could just mute the audience's mike, but it is more fun to see which deceased person was unliked, kinda embarrassing if your relative gets no applause
Somebody they certainly left out, other then "The Elite 5" who got their special testimonials, was Jane Henson, wife of Jim. To quote her Wikipedia page - "Jane collaborated with Jim in performing Muppets and devising several of the show's technical innovations, including the use of television monitors to watch their performances in real time." Right there, she deserves to be included w/ performers, and also innovators like Dolby.
Kinda weird how they applaud louder for the more popular dead lol? I think they could save the applause for last or EVEN just have a moment of silence?
I was thinking that since he died the year before, he would've been mentioned in the 2012 one, but I think he died after that. Maybe he didn't qualify for this.
Honestly, they should not have given anyone their own separate "eulogy". No offense to Cory, but he hadn't been a star for years and years like some of these people. I don't watch Glee, so I barely knew who he was. He definitely wasn't in the business long enough to warrant that separate "eulogy". Again, no offense at all to him - it's not personal.
It seems like this was thrown together at the last minute, probably because of the uproar over singling out 5 people from the large group. Include all of them together and take the time to actually show clips for goodness sakes. They're always justifying it by saying they don't have time. Seriously? How about cut one of half-dozen completely unnecessary musical numbers? It's the emmys, not the grammys! Jack Klugman & Larry Hagman in particular really stand out as glaing omissions.
More famous? For being on Glee? Wow, I didn't think his death was much more important than all these people whom you prolly never even heard of because the looks of it you must be a kid. I mean, Glee. He should of just be in these along with the other people that has passed instead of having a separate tribute just because he was a youngling than most of these and tragically cut his own life short.
Reminds me of when they all cheered and gave ALL the time to damn Michael Jackson and pretty much ignored Bea Arthur, Patrick Swayze, Ed McMahon and Farrah Fawcett.
Great point and exactly what I was thinking. These so called "artists" are an embarrassment with this nonsense, applauding loudly for some and barely clapping for others. They should STFU until all the names are shown, then stand in unison to show respect for the body of work. Never ceases to amaze me how shallow these people can be.
+Seb Sch Thank goodness the following year (2014) applause was held through the end of the tribute while Sara Bareilles sang. Much more appropriate and respectful.
Sherman died in July 2012, so he would have been included in the 2012 Emmy's broadcast. James died three months after these Emmys and should be featured in the broadcast next week.
I was just thinking the same thing...that awkward moment u don't want it to seem that one actors death is greater than another so you just keep on clapping...
Loved the applause over Roger Ebert. Showed he was loved by so many.

Larry Hagman
Alan Kirschenbaum
Lois Smith
Emily Squires
Russell Means
Charles Durning
Harry Carey, Jr.
Steve Sabol
Alex Karras
Jack Klugman
Jenni Rivera

Might be better to hold applause during to avoid the natural but awkward favoritism for the more well known celebrities.
I find it awkward when close to nobody claps for someone they don't know while everyone else gets a rousing applause.
There were so many this year who had given decades of entertainment to us that I wish they would have cut some of the lengthy, no meaning skits to give proper recognition to the wonderful people who left.

wow no cory monteith
They did a tribute to him separately.
Jason Atwood
why?
It's the Prelude to Cello Suite No.1 by Bach. One of the most elegant classical pieces there is, for certain.

Loved the hoot given out when Roger Ebert was shown. And glad he was mentioned. I figured he would be, since he was on TV.
As much as I hate people clapping more than others on in Memoriam

lost alot of great ones
He wasn't on the In Memorium list. .but Edie Falco..his Sopranos co-star did a tribute to him during the show.
I'm glad they remembered Emily Squires, at least, but given the Sesame Street connection I'm surprised there was no mention of Jerry Nelson.

What is the song that was played in the background?
Yes but people are saying he didn't deserve a memorial at all because of the way he died. Which is disgusting and not true.
Where's Cory Montieth😓
its the famous bach cello suite
I'm sorry but Cory mint itch and the other 4 that had the "special tributes" should have still shown up here
I have heard this composition before, could anyone tell me what it is?
Warming up TOCCHATA IN FUGUE MINOR..
I always thought they should save the applause until the end...that is more appropriate.

They should clap for everyone. Not just their favorites. It's rude.

That's outdated and sexist to use a diminutive term for women.
