- Céline Dion performing live at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards on 2/27/2011. She is seen here singing "Smile" during their annual In Memoriam tribute at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles. "Smile" was originally sung by Nat King Cole in the early 1950s. It is also a song based on an instrumental theme used in the comedy film 'Modern Times' by Charlie Chaplin. Additionally, it was Céline's record sixth time performing at the Academy Awards.

THE BEST In Memoriam ever...I get chills every time I watch this and I cry!!!! Celine and orchestra nailed it!!!!!!!!!!
This in memoriam was especially moving, not just for Celine’s low key performance, but for the way this was edited, and the stars we lost.
The best singer EVER!
Wonderful memorial performance by Celine Dion! One of the most beautiful voices to ever grace the world's stages
many times oscars aked to Celine sing for the show, because she's very great, professional, and class
sensy 01 And it hasnt happened since 2011
Manuel Orozco her last was back in 2011. She’s so busy nowadays with the tours
It’s because her voice could very well compliment movie sounding music compared to Mariah or Whitney maybe (no hate here, can’t choose who’s my most fav amongst the 3)
7 times
as she said once to ennio morricone, "I will not sing with my voice, I'll sing with my heart"
she totally does
Such humility: she disappears when they dimmed the lights so that the centre and focus was solely the In Memoriam. For a star of her caliber, that shows how great she is.
Thats how every memoriam segment works
The Oscar's favorite singer. You are such a Queen. 👑♥️
From Montreal Charlemagne
@@nadiaroussel5689 yes, CANADIAN QUEEN and Canada's National treasure
Just as Meryl Streep is Oscar's favorite actress 😍
instablaster...
It sounded so soft. It is amazing her abilities with her voice, even her strong voice, she can manege it and change it whenever she wants... Just loved it!
That's how masterclass her voice is. Her agility, breath control and dynamics show why she is a league of her own.
Dynamics
the women with a golden voice
One of my favorite singers. Rare to find talent like hers these days in the generation of Beyoncé, Adele, Katy Perry, Meghan Trainor and Taylor Swift.
Tangiia Enjoy I like them anyway
Howcome in every Celine Dion video commenters have to ruin it by bringing up Adele, Beyonce, Whitney & Mariah 😑😑😑 Never fails.
daniel benitez My bad. I like them too
Bofff tanné d'elle
The Orchestra plays so tragically, soft and good. I'm crying even though the song called "Smile"
Celine's voice is magical.
wow Celine always delivers...what an emotional performance
I love Celine she is and always will be the best singer there ever was period
So little views and yet, this is probably one of the most memorable and touching performance I ever heard from Celine.
Quand on que a l'amour live in paris 1995 is the most emotional performance by her
And s'il suffisant d'amitié live 2003 (she got the longest stand ovation for female artist )
L'amour existe encore live for the victims 9/11
You much watch these
The very best version of the song, I hope she records a studio version.
RIP Georgy Girl (Lynn Redgrave) We will never forget the glee you brought us.
MJ's version is the best I'm sorry
well i'm crying now.
beautiful version, beautiful pictures.....and tears in my eyes.....but i smile....
So touching
Woooow i bow to you my queen 👸 perfection flawless iconic
Wow! Céline is the best! ❤🎤❤🎤😊
SO SO AWESOME...I COULD WATCH THIS AND LISTEN TO THIS ALL DAY!!!!!!!!!!! (And just a side note...Celine looked so much better with a little more weight just BEAUTIFUL HERE!)
You just can’t help your self to smile when you hear her sing.. So relaxing..
Yes, smiling and relaxing to all the folks who passed away.
Her voice makes me cry.
What a lovely tribute to all those brilliant stars Celine is the best
Uverse just lost my recoding of this. So happy it is still on UTube. I still get tears when I see Susannah York. I wish Celine would release a single of this song and arrangement. So beautiful...
Very touching Celine did a great job here 😏
Simply a beautiful and perfect performance. We miss you so much Celine! ❤
Good job, Céine.
On the mark, not over the top. And that allowed those who have passed, a little movement in our hearts.
Namaste and care,
mhikl
It's always sad to see the people we lose over the course of a year, from the actors to the people who worked behind the scenes, to the ones we knew well, to the ones we didn't. There will always be this sad batch every year, but we honor them by doing this in tribute.
celine is super super star
Celine is not a star, she is THE GALAXY, The Universe.
mec7up A Legend
Sweet thank you for adding the beloved voice of Tooter Turtle from The King And Odie Show Allen Swift to the list!
Yes to Mary Vostal about Susannah York's smile (at 2:44), and Leslie Nielsen's (at 1:20) is second "best". Very moving...
Enchantingly beautiful! Love Celine Dion!
Love Celine
i have read a few comments gushing over Celine but i find the silent viewing of the celebrities unsettling ,no clapping or cheering when a past friend or colleague appears , like celine must have silence ...
It is sad to see how we are losing track of what is really good. In 2011 the WONDERFUL and unique Celine Dion honoring those who left in 2010. This year we had to swallow a Billie Eilish that she had never heard of and that will soon be forgotten ... but where is Celine today? Among the 10 biggest tours of the year ... and very well !!!!
I keep forgetting to hear Celine's new album
Omg she is so great!!!
Sort of ironic that Celine is singing this and one of the departed was Gloria Stuart. Now if you don't see the connection.....
Touching and beautiful
RIP - Dino De Laurentiis Producer (DEG) & Blake Edwards Writer, Director (The Pink Panther).
Espectacular la mejor ❤
Hi Sally!! Rest in paradise 🙏🏽
Gloria Stuart ❤️🙏
I missed Rue McClanahan! What a great and versatile actress she was!
rip Tony Curtis.
Some Like It Hot: my favorite comedy film.
The fact Gloria Stuart was in the in memoriam.....
RIP Blake Edwards. :'(
And Celine just outdid herself.
Simplemente maravilloso.!!
Just noticed that in all the clips, the dead are smiling.
i am youre angel i was born with a cross in my pols
Que voz ,Celine obrigado.
Magistrale 👍😊
Celine dion sou sua fa numero 1 sou brasilera voce vai voltar camtar com fe em jesus
Patricia Neal Wonderful..
You know, it actually is okay to cry. It lets out emotions, as George Carlin would say.
Where was Corey Haims picture? He was snubbed.
It still makes me mad!!
The dazzling Lena Horne
Hi Sally.
Ahora que lo pienso, tengo que cumplir la promesa a ese niño que alguna vez fui, de devolverle, la pureza de su sonrisa y su ingenuidad,
Patricia neal was fabulous
I'm very sorry that there is no album of this music
Dino Delaurentiis, rest in peace my dear friend.
Why was Lena Hornes name not up there ????
Halle Berry came out right after the song ended and paid tribute to her individually.
Wwwaaaooooo ❤❤❤
Where's Satoshi Kon?
"Drebin."
"Frank."
"You're both right."
Where was Ilene Woods?
Loved her as Cinderella
I like when they are allowed to clap
shouldn't have left out Corey Haim.
You got that right!!
Was that the same year? 😱
@@colleendancy508 Well, we would like to pay our tribute to Corey Haim, but the network says "no."
Needless to say, Corey has been one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood but he had a series of
problems such as drugs and so on. But I don't have all the answers but there's only one thing I do like about
Corey. Because he brings laughter, tears, joy, action, suspense, humor and romance in every film he did like
1987's "The Lost Boys" which I'm damn proud of that. People love working with him and fans respected him.
You know I'm sorry that he's gone but he's an damn good actor and loving care human being. But he could just say
"no" to drugs and "yes" to acting. If anybody who's learning the hard way, that could be Corey Haim. He'll always
remembered. Thank you and god bless. RIP, Corey Haim.
Keep hurting your absence, Daddy
Céline Dion toujours très sobre dans sa mise en scène.
Mario Monicelli.
How many went to heaven?
andy whitfield????
No cause the fact they didn't put Corey Haim makes my blood boil.
Oh, I'm so sorry.
Thank you so much my dear ... I do love your style 😍😍😍
Just remaining my love ., God say :
" Know well that the life of the world is only play and amusement and pageantry which is a boasting and abundance of wealth and children amongst you. (The life of the world) is like the rain that causes the vegetation to grow, which pleases the farmer. After a while it withers away and you see it turning yellow. Then it becomes garbage. There is severe torment, forgiveness from Allah and Allah’s Pleasure in the Hereafter. And the life of this world is nothing but a deceiving enjoyment . " (QS:Al Hadid 20)
Beautiful song, amazing voice..yet every time i watch this i think "They should've switched Kevin McCarthy's and that lady's (who had no name?) place!" LOL! It would 've been the perfect ending: Kevin raising a glass with that sexy smirk saying "We may be gone, but we will never be forgotten, see ya!"
"That Lady" was the legendary Lena Horne, an enormous star of films, concerts, roadshows, recordings, and Broadway. Maybe learn something.
@@Harringtonml54 Whatever. They still should've switched their place.
Misty Lake She was a goddess. He was very good, but no equivalence whatsoever.
@@Harringtonml54 I'm not denying that. She was a huge star, bigger than Kevin, for sure. ALL I'M SAYING, is that the way they added the clips were wrong. Everyone thought he was the last one, because of the clip, but then there was Lena. I felt like they forgot her and went "Shit! Well..let's add her at the end, quick!" You know? They should have put her first.
There's more that goes on here. See the woman entering at the end? That was Halle Berry to do a special tribute to Lena. And if you didn't know who Lena was.....
Good but 2017 was better.
She destroys most classics . . . . true to form, she murdered this one/
Wrong emphasis, phrasing, timing and rhythm
Really? I can't see what you mean. I guess you don't like the way she holds certain notes "longer than normal". So, it may not be perfect, but I like hers better than the original (Nat King Cole), which is of course great...
James Jaynes
The original is by Charlie Chaplin
paddy9i99
good point!
but not him singing, too bad
James Jaynes
Next time, do some research
paddy9i99 The music track is by Chaplin - For his 1936 film "Modern Times", The lyrics on the other hand are not. They were written by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons in 1954.
