Lost Very Nice Speckled Trout

- We estimate the trout to be well over 7 1/2 pounds. David has one on his office wall and this fish made it look small this fish was 27"-30". I would never be the one to mount a fish just wish we had a net so I could've got a measurement. But I definitely knew the risk of not fishing with a net in a boat. I've hooked and fliped many 24”-25" trout but this was on another level. Back in the 90's in Delacroix my stepdad had a 27-30" trout same thing no net I tried to flip but it ripped away and was gone. I'll never forget that day and this day. It takes a big fish to rattle me and I was definitely rattled. Swamplures Dark Avocado was the color of the day again.

Just commented on Todd Masson's recent You Tube and my comment to him was that smaller black drum,typically 17-22 inch fish are much sweeter-tasting vs comparably-sized reds.I did joke with Dave R about running into his identical twin a few days ago,up at the White Sands Restaurant in Cotter,AR.Took guided trip with our 7 year old grandson and my wife and we ended up nabbint 57 rainbows,kept 15 and we are gonna get our older son to grill them on his pellet smoker.Funny that Dave R was NOT getting nearly the bites as you and I have definitely been there.At structures like Causeway and Trestles I have missed MANY fish trying to finesse the fish vs rearing back hard when I felt something put even the slightest pressure on my line.Can't wait for the next AJ You Tube!!
AJ that was a true heartbreaker my friend !!! I once caught the biggest trout I ever seen on the Violet ship canal in the middle of a school of Red fish , at first I thought he was just another Red until I got him to the boat ! We weighed it and it was a 5 1/2 lb Trout , it freaked me out and I’ve never caught one near that size again! At least u and David had a decent trip overall! Tight lines buddy!
In a situation like that, switch rods for a few casts. If he's still not catching, you KNOW it's something he's doing wrong! Great video guys!!!
Don’t feel bad David, I think AJ could catch trout in his bathtub. The man definitely has the right wavelength to connect with the fish and make them bite!!!

Don’t blame yourself David, we’ve all been in your situation. Everyone in the boat catching but me even swapping equipment and someone else catching with mine. I can’t figure it out. Very frustrating.

A J glad to see you guys back on the water again. I just finished installing a new Minn Kota Instinct Quest. I have one last week after my second hip replacement, and I want to get on them before they go outside. Being I have weaker legs, I wasn’t comfortable on the front deck with my Riptide tiller the last time in the lake with a 1 1/2 roll. I wanted self deploy and spot lock. They redesigned the Ulterra due to the problems they had. Of course it was double the price of the Ulterra. I hope it lives up to the hype.
I’ve never heard of that trolling motor. Hopefully it keeps the same remote because I’m use to it. I’m sure I’ll have to run one someday. Good luck on getting out there before they head out in July
I hear with both of you were saying, but I’ll be damned if y’all well you caught fish nonstop for 17 minutes there’s for sure one limit in the boat right now at 17 minutes. Glad to see you out on the water. Thanks for sharing the video with us as always AJ you make it look easy.

I’m not sure what kind of rod Dave Fish is with but I know when your rod and my rod got mixed up and I was using your light action 13 rod like my medium heavy there is a difference of sensitivity. That may have been what was getting Dave when the fish bite the way they do to where it’s more of a different feel and you need to rare back on it That you don’t feel with a heavy action rod. That is my opinion of what was going on there.
But on the other hand, your fishing skills are like you have a PHD in trout 😢 the trout whisperer.

Dave is using a medium action mine is medium light. Usually Dave can hang fish for fish with them rods. You know he has seven of the same ones.
I feel your pain brother! Had one that big jump 3/4 out the water last week when I first set the hook. She then "self released". Ouch!

Many years ago,I had a mentor select me as a tourmament partner and he lived in Greenleaves,had his house smashed up pretty good by Hurricane Katrina and he showed me an extremely accurate way of estimating the weight of specks and it works VERY well.Take the length,for instance a 20 inch speck should weight slightly more or less than 2 lbs and a 27 in speck should weigh about 7 lbs.My personal best was a 25 in thick speck that weighed about exactly 5 lbs.If that log ya lost was over 27 inches,it possibly weighed 8 lbs.!!Dave's neighbor told me one of his buddy's dad caught a STAR winner at the Causeway in 2009 and that speck weighed almost 9 lbs-check out the 2009 STAR results for E side-Anthony Valenti,Sr won with torpedo!!Good seeing you and Dave chasing specks together-thought yall were gonna hit Causeway-probably best choice was what looked like fine Delacroix area bay!!!My wife and I headed to Ozarks in about the middle of this month and we have a guided White Water fly fishing/spin fishing trip plus we are taking him on Buffalo River canoe trip!!
I left that decision up to David he wanted to go to Delacroix so we went. The trout that’s on David’s wall in the shop is 7 1/2 the trout that got off definitely was bigger than that one
@@Laproduceman I have NO DOUBT dat torpedo was over 8 lbs,just knowing dat ya hooked a beast like dat would be enough for me.Been chatting with a few folks and one of my clients that has a summer home on Clara Drive in the Carr Drive area went to Trestles a few times,using live shrimp and STILL only caught a few fish.I HATE using live bait and do NOT use it!
If they look like that from now on I'd have me a net in my boat that was a jumbo that's the breaks though still a great day 👍
Dang, would have been nice to get it in the boat and take some pics but that’s how it goes sometimes. Dropping a big one like that will give you PTSD for a little while. At least it wasn’t during the Star tournament and a boat was on the line lol.
I kept hearing "that fish would have kept before"...did the regulations change for you all in LA? They changed for us again in lower Texas, the regulations for us now are 15"-20" bag limit of 3 per person per day and only one over sized BUT has to be over 30 inches. Great vid like always and I kept yelling GET THE NET!!!!!

If we get to that point I will just bass fish our local river. Save time and money I wouldn’t go for 3 fish sucks for y’all
@@Laproduceman 15 each, they cut you all by 10? At least you all can take 15, after we put gas and bait and all the expenses to only be able to catch 3 just sometimes makes it not going and cheaper to catch fish at the grocery store 🤣🤣🤣
@ernestleal6890 I’m not complaining about the 15 limit or the 2 over 20” but if they cut us back every two years I’m going back to the bass.

29:48 I can hear some of them dumb people now see you’re catching trout like that because of the new limit. 😂 and I agree with you about the river anytime they start dumping all that fresh water in there it screws everything up. Just look what it did to Lake Pontchartrain for a couple years in a row.
Delacroix this time of the year all my life was like this 23”-24” fish wasn’t that hard to come by. The river has just made our fishing that much harder the fish can’t see the bait. I’m getting aggression bites I call it either they wanting to kill it or grab it quick and see what keeps aggravating them. My stepdad had a 27-30” that we lost same way with no net. Early 90’s before the river water.
But people didn’t see what we were doing without youtube. Everyone back then had a cork tied on and we were tightlining beetles in deep passes. Catching monster trout.
I’m not against the diversion because I know it’s open the whole month in February. I’m talking about Mardi Gras Pass that is open year round just look what it has done to Pointe la Hache. Once had us running from Delacroix to fish that area and now it’s a waste land unless you’re into reds, bass and catfish

Dave was just angry at himself for not producing fish. My rod is 7ft just the camera I’ve been using make depth perception lost. But I enjoy not having to wear a camera and I can run microphones off it easily.

Got on them again this morning all chunks , ran out of tags again nothing under 17 inches , wake baits & soft plastic in 2-7 ft water
Some of the biggest trout I caught was on then swamp lures honey mustard
The only thing worse than losing one that big, is losing someone else's fish... like when my son was 6, he had one on the stern of my boat and I knocked it off with the net! He kept telling me "it's ok dad"... 21 years later it still pains me!😊
Dark Avocado was the color of choice yesterday. I caught one on honey mustard it I didn’t have confidence and quickly changed back

Not your fault 😆. I’m definitely not sad about it I seen it I feel if I had a net I could’ve gotten it in the boat. I still wouldn’t own a net either flip it or lose it and move on to the next one 😂

David is a very good fisherman. The man has the lake dialed in but I don’t know why he couldn’t get dialed in yesterday. But 10 years ago I couldn’t have caught them fish I’ve gotten better as time goes on. The water is so dirty that the fish can’t see the bait simple as that at least my thinking from the east wind and the river water from Mardi Gras Pass
