Training Three Parrots Can Be Silly

- Apollo's been very "selectively cooperative" since hitting puberty, so we train/practice on his terms.
Apollo is our 2 year-old African Grey parrot we've had since December 2020.
Founder of Shrock and renowned GLASS connoisseur.

I love how Apollo does a dance when he knows he's being silly 🤣
The trademark "goober" dance
I was literally just thinking this 😂😂😂❤️🔥
He made a joke.
to me he was chuckling at his joke haha.
Animals joking is *amazing!*
My man is single handedly the biggest purchaser of pistachios outside of the wholesale market
I hope they don't have an Amazon Echo. Apollo will just order 50 pounds of them to be delivered 2-day Prime.
Any one who has a grey keeps them in business.
2:39
Dalton: “What’s this made of?”
Apollo: “Wario”
Dalton: “No! What’s this made of?”
Apollo: “Shruck” *dances* 😂
I think it meant Shrek 🧐
@@yinx4ts883 he said Shrock before, so he’s probably guessing
I bet he meant "shrug" 🧐🧐🧐
It’s still funny tho
It’s rock & shrek from learning them together.
"what is your wisdom?"
"If your pistash.. is too big for your beak, it's probably not yours."
"That's good wisdom "
You, you are a funny man.
Dog of wisdom
I find it interesting that Apollo checks that metal lid a few times, hears the things he associates with glass, and then insists. Really shows how our sense of touch can help us identify objects while having only the noises of hitting an object form Apollo’s understanding.
Birds can feel with their beak so he might be using that too
We think it's the resonance that makes him strongly ID it as glass, for objects like that bowl if we hold it in such a way that deadens the vibration he will be much more likely to call it metal with the reverse also being true. The same holds true for our pyrex bowls. Testing it further might be a good idea for a video.
Reminds me of a video where a 2-year-old insists that a donkey is a cow because of its pattern.
I wonder if the reflection might also have a part in it?
The way apollo bobs his head after he jokes is so cute. It's like his way of laughing.
(Whats this made of?)
him: *shrek*
Also him: *vibing to how smart he is*
not how this format works
I understand why you can't accept it, but I firmly believe Shrek is a perfect answer to any question. I also am delighted that Shrek seems to be Apollo's go to word for when he's feeling spicy.
Think Apollo got tired of being asked the same question after only two times. On the third he said shrek and laugh that’s smart. Wow I don’t know much about birds but that seems like a very smart bird to me.
I once researched the brain development process behind humour and yes using humour as a mechanism for expressing being annoyed is very advanced (in humans it appears by 13-14 years old minimum)
3:42 Something I noticed: When Apollo tries to figure out what something is made of, he hits it with his beak. The glass goblet made an echo-y ring when he hit it. The metal scrap did not. However, the metal *dish* made an echo-y ring. That's probably why he thought the metal dish was made of glass. Parrots being such good vocal mimics means they lean toward associations based on sound. Sort of like how Apollo hears 'what made of', test-hits the object, then makes a sound he's known to associate with the sound of the object he hit, I've heard other parrots complete phrases started by human companions. A parrot named Gizmo likes to say 'whatcha gonna do' when his human says 'bad bird' (a reference to the intro song for COPS).
I think he loves the word "Shrock" he always dance after he says it😂
His confidence that the bowl is made of GLASS: 💯
"What made of?"
"Shrek" then just cackles.
Funny guy.
Aw man
I love that he can do the phone notification sound. I can see how that would get really confusing but funny on a daily basis!
You will NEVER be a man!!!!!!!
Talking parrots are a great deterrent to IoT voice assistant devices. Your gray parrot hears you giving commands to Alexa, and it's all over. Your Amazon shopping list is now a graveyard of "easy water" and "big tofu." Or "wanna-earn-a-pistash" and "shhurrrROCK" in Apollo's case.
3:10 Soleil’s lil jump so cute
He always uses Shrek as his little joke lol I LOVE how he laughs at himself. He's so smart and cute
2:39 Apollo has a great sense of humor.
I’m convinced sometimes Apollo intentionally says the wrong thing then laughs to himself be shaking his head.😊
If that bowl isn't made of glass it damn well better be after Apollo has deemed it so! 🤣😂
While it seems he doesn't have a perfectly clear grasp of what the words mean, the fact that he has built up this level of association of words to phrases and objects really is impressive. He is so well trained, and an absolute joy to watch.
He's still on the level of a small child. Thats how humans learn language at first too.
Half the time, I think he is just being defiant and says the wrong words on purpose.
@@via_negativa6183 I wonder where he will plateau at
From what I've heard I'm pretty sure Apollo is still pretty young, so with time hopefully it will improve
@@Tyrrituil he's gonna run for president in a few years
Sometimes it looks as if Apollo purposely says a wrong answer and laughes about his joke ( when he is dancing after his answer ) . 😄💕
It seems like he does the dance every time he trolls you 😂 so clever!
I love how the echoey noise of the bowl makes him believe it’s glass.
I’m just in love with hiss **GLASS**
G L A S S 🗿
2:40 apollo is trolling lol
we do a little bit of shrock
*SHROK*
🕺 🕺 🕺
It's cute how the sisters are particular about where they eat.
Up next: Apollo learning quantum mechanics
After that: Apollo creates a rocket powerful enough to reach mars
I love how he was cooperating until his best friend Wario showed up
It seems like Apollo is trying to be funny when he says the wrong answer then bobs his head up and down 😂 I love Apollo.
Very nice birdie parenting. That metal bowl is kind of confusing with its sound and feel. Very sweet
He needs a marketing deal with Wonderful Pistachios.
I love how Apollo randomly says the Snapchat notification sound
I love how he makes random sounds
When he asked Apollo twice the color black...the 2nd time had a face of: I already told you... lol
Most parents fear stepping on Legos, somehow I think that pistachio shells are on par for birdie parents.
"Wanna earn a pistachio? "
Apollo: Im not gonna say anything but my silence means yes
The parrot dance is totally fascinating and adorable. I can watch this all day. 😂
Apollo has few unread push notifications
The way Apollo turned his nose up to the lowly pecan. 🐦 😪
😂😂
2:39 THE DANCE
I love how he makes the notifications lol
Seemed like when he actually touched it with his tongue, he tasted it was metal instead of glass.
Really, when Apollo saw the glass he hit it with his beak to hear it. When he bopped the shiny metal bowl, the sound was very similar to the glass and the surface is reflective, too. I can see why he's calling the metal glass. That also shows high IQ, in my book anyways.
Aren't our bird friends so intelligent? I have a Gray and Indian Ringneck, and am constantly amazed at their smarts!
You guys need a shirt that says "Keep Calm and Touch Purple"
Dalton: Piece of pecan?
Apollo: eerrhh! (where's my pistash?)
If his beak check says GLASS then the bowl is made of GLASS duh 🤷♀️
Apollo looks exactly like my bird Coco
When he gets an answer wrong he says "shhrek" 😂
Dalton: What's this made of?
Me: Glass! Damn I'm good.
Awww love how he says black lol they're so smart and beautiful
I like how Apollo in The end of the video just beeped
Do you ever give Apollo neck scratches because they adore affection like that x
Lol Apollo makes the Google assistant beep.
"Jesus Christ I´m TELLING you its glass, if you´re so clever why ask me for help in the first place? Humans..."
Apollo: does stand up comedy and acrobatics for a snack
Girls: 🤬 SCREME for SNAck
2:41
This sound could be a signal that „Shrock” is incoming.
I love the sound effect he does for shake
I adore how he makes the loud, sharp bang/pop sound whenever he shakes hands))
Imagine if you could get him to teach his own kids these things. That would be the ultimate knowledge loop
I interpreted him saying glass as him being bored of the question or something.
Not only do you take excellent care of your birbs, you've taught them well too 🤣 It's a joy to watch Apollo, especially when he's being silly. He's da *shrock* birb!
Meanwhile, my budgies still enjoy flying onto my face and biting my fingers. (They're not super tame, especially since they're in a large outdoor aviary with a whole flock of the bois, but they enjoy anything to do with messing around, lol.)
Smart! 🧠 love to to see how advanced his training will go.
02:17 XD that's actually a good question "What's this called" and then "do you want it?" Since he already knows how to say Pistash ^^
The names for the girls are do perfect.
Apollo's shake includes bonus *laser*
Apollo 💢ing for Ophelia's shake 🤭
Guys? How does Apollo feel about Cashews or Hazelnuts? Are you secretly keeping this knowledge from them?? ☺️☺️💕💕❤️
Nobody likes cashews for whatever reason and haven't tried hazelnuts. I'd wager they're too hard to open but would be accepted if we crack them a bit to make it easier.
@@ApolloandFrens I'm with them, Cashews are not good.
@@huehuecoyotl2 they are
Apollo is such a troll, I love him lol
The fact he favored Wario over Shrek, he’s such a smart bird
“What’s this made of”
………. Apollo - “Shrooooook” 😂
Apollo holding out for the pistach. 😂
Touch Shreck. "But I Want Wario"
So sweet sound saying metal 😄
Show him a pistash and ask "whar's this?" 😁 really curious about that
there really needs to be Apollo bang sound compilation
Is that his sound at 2.42? What a cool sound!
I could imagine Tori making a remix song where Apollo's bang sound is the drum beat.
"What's this made of?"
"Shrek"
Good bird.
I just walk around my house saying touch color black
Apollo's "cuckoo" whistle is cute
Shrok needs to be a thing. Love it when he says it 😆
What a fantastic personality you are Apollo 😂❤
I'm really interested to know what he thinks that door closing sound means
How do you tell Ophelia and Solei apart? (Sorry if I mispelled their names😅)
Class every day. Your turn dad.
I love Apollo dancing!!!
You guys really take awesome care of your birds!!!! And you’ve taught them so much! Great work guys. Love this channel. Keep up the great videos!
Ofelia & Soleil are so dam cute
Such an enthralling creature!
Apollo insisting the answer was glass made me seriously doubt myself for a second..
I am having so much fun with these videos! Thanks a lot. Impressive what they can do!
Too much. Poor Apollo. Just give him the pistachio because you love him.
i love his shrek dance 🤣
my allegiance is to Apollo ,
he is a Great bird ,
there is no Competition
between Parrots !
Love
Namaste
Best
That black paper totally looked grey to me. It's the same color as Apollo.
So that's why he says Shrek and Wario.
3:10 the tiny jump 😭😭😭😭
It's so much fun watching these videos =D So glad I found this channel!
Apollo is the master of reality. If he says it is glass, then it is glass. I don't make the rules this is just how it works.
Apollo is amazing !
