I really love the ink drawings on the cards as well and the tutorial on Tabletopia was a lot of fun. And now that you have given your blessings too, I feel good about my decision to back, even if it is a really pricey game with VAT added.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed playing it! It quickly went from, "What's this game? How do I pronounce this?" to one of my top kickstarters of the year!
Thanks for the play through Mike, happy I’ve backed this now. Fighting Fantasy books were my gateway into everything - Games Workshop, RPGs, boardgaming - so this game is practically designed for me :). That scenario was fun to watch you play, and I’m excited to do it myself and try different things. I like every design choice they’ve made here - action selection, managing your stamina and other resources - but maybe the injury cards seem a bit boring?
Oh my.... I had written it off and then I was foolish enough to look at Mike's video. Can I ask (in your opinion) how this compares to Aridya and Lands of Galzyr? (or should I do that in the Patreon/Discord?)
So I didn’t play Arydia, but watched Steve’s videos. Agemonia would be my favorite of the three. Brief thoughts: Arydia - personally I didn’t love how zoomed in it felt. As cool as it is to set up a new map for each cave and camp I come to, there wasn’t necessarily a ton of interest to do in all those places. I liked the combat system though! Galzyr - a very different beast, basically a choose your own adventure book. The mechanics are SUPER light. I still really enjoyed it, but it feels very different from the other two. Agemonia - really exciting exploration of scenarios, with huge variety, but I also enjoyed replaying them for better achievements and to see details I missed. Love the mix of narrative and action selection and resource management. Great quick enemy AI.
@@OneStopCoopShop thanks - that is super clear. I also fear that Arydia is bogged down by the searching for maps etc. Which can delay things seriously. This does seem more streamlined - I'm really just bogged down by the fact that VAT + Shipping = 50% on top of reg price - I'll mull it over. Again - thanks for the clear pros /cons.
Every time I think I've successfully passed on this one, I see something that pulls me back in! Do you think it's worth it just for solo though? Or would it be too fiddly etc?
I didn’t find it fiddly in my plays. I think I could even run 3 characters, potentially, since the only simultaneous part of a round (action selection) takes like 5 seconds, and turns are very fast.
An early copy just arrived! It’s under embargo until February, but it is my most anticipated game at the moment, so I will absolutely do a new play and also a review
@saviloic I replied on your other comment, but I’ve heard very middling comments about folklore (I haven’t played myself), so no it isn’t one I’d try to pick up, personally

Actually, it's a bit different than you think. The two dice I reroll at that moment are both showing the exploding/critical die face, which means I get a success and then reroll them. So I was still resolving the initial 3 dice. I already got 4 successes from those 3 dice (thanks to the crits), so I never needed to roll the 4th die. Hope that makes sense!

Haha, yes, my blessing is officially given ;)

Great playthrough… i guess i am in in the reprint 🙌🏻👍🏻🙏🏻
This is one of my favorites of the year, so I don't think you'll regret it

Yes, a fellow game-booker ;)
Injuries seemed pretty punishing, but honestly I didn’t get too many.

Oof, yeah, that’s a steep increase to get it to you :(

Hi Mike, will you be reviewing this game 😀? Looks great!

@OneStopCoopShop being your most anticipated game is the reason I'm interested 😀
While waiting for this game to become more widely available, would Folklore the affliction be one you'd recommend? Thank you!

at 35:20 you roll 3 dice say you have 1 more to roll then roll 2 more did you roll to many dice ?

@@OneStopCoopShop you got the 4 success on the 3 🎲 so didn't bother to roll the 4th 🎲 I got it
