    This seems to be getting more traction than anything else I have put up and I have made big changes to my layout over the last nine months. I'm not sure when I will get to it, but I am planning to create an update to this that includes my streaming layout and changes to the rig including, new wheel, button boxes, belt tensioner, and more...

    Great video and drawn some inspiration from you. I'm building a new button box and my old one needs a new purpose therefore looking at some extra functions you have there I may well be utilising such as the mute chat functions etc. Question though what are you running through your usb hub. Just interested as I have a similar one and worry about taking up too much single usb channel throughput if I run every peripheral off the hub? i.e wheel, pedals, button boxes, gearshifter etc

    • @nerdthewise
      @nerdthewise  3 роки тому

      My usb hub currently handles all the shifters, button box, pedals, streamdeck, and arduino. Everything else is wired straight to the PC. I think you are wise to be worried about that, but most sim stuff isn't pushing much bandwidth. That said, you might research your motherboard and see how many usb busses it has and put higher traffic stuff on a port further away on the rear i/o. Some boards will only have one, some will have more than one. I also added a 4 port / 4 bus PCIE USB 3.0 expansion card that has eliminated most of my issues (particularly when adding cameras that require a lot of bandwidth).

    What are your pedals like? The brake especially?
    I'm also commenting the same thing again because I've watched more of the video now and I'm in awe, what a setup, that's a fucken dream rig mate, love it!
    It is so professionally done, everything..... The proxy power switch for fans and amps, the binds for your button box and the look and layout are perfect, the easy to get to USB fix (i feel your pain on the hub bugs), the absolute best gear with the best feel there is in seq and H pattern shifters, i love how you mounted your Ebrake like a road car instead of rally/drift, cable management,
    Only things you could upgrade to is... a motion platform thingy. I love my vibrations also but it doesn't compare to a motion setup and a g9 for games that don't have VR support......that 1000r :O

      Thanks fella. I have my brake close to as stiff as I can get it. Maybe 130-160 pounds to hit 100%? Maybe 16mm movement total?

  • @Matt-dh6yo

      So far I haven’t been able to justify the upgrade from the CRG90. Would love a chance to play with one in person and see what the practical difference is.

    Hello, I'm starting to mount my rig and I was looking for the monitor/s set up. I have the idea the odyssey G9 240Hz G-Sync, but Samsung have the same G9 black 1440p 144Hz but not g-sync. I think that is your monitor. Can you tel me more. Is much better the G9 240Hz or is just more money for the spec.
    Thanks

    Great setup. May I ask why no triple screen setup? From what I see most people prefer triples unless there is space limitation. You seen to have space for triplets.

    • @nerdthewise
      @nerdthewise  4 роки тому

      For me it’s about FPS vs fidelity. At 5140x1440 I get *enough* FOV but am still able to run higher settings at 120+FPS that I could on 1440 triples. That’s on a 2080 ti and 8700k. Setup outside of iRacing is simpler as well.

    Hi Brandon
    Which ultrawide are you using?
    I’m trying to decide whether to get the new Samsung offering or go for the older 1080 version. I only have a 1080TI ( can’t believe I’m saying that already) so wondering if it will run 1440 ok

    • @nerdthewise
      @nerdthewise  3 роки тому

      It's the CRG90 (1440p 120hz). If you don't plan to upgrade your graphics card in the near future you might get away with the CHG90 (1080p 144hz), but I'm sure you will eventually and if you plan to keep the display for more than the duration of your GPU I'd just future proof now. Be aware as well that the newest model (G9) is getting an update later this year as well, so you might wait on that. In a race the 1080p vs 1440p probably doesn't matter *that much* to most people, but for me it was night and day. For text and desktop use you definitely want 1440p. My display is ~20" from my face and at that range even 1440p starts to show pixels.

    • @nerdthewise
      @nerdthewise  3 роки тому

      I assume you are asking about these? I use RAM mounts a couple places in the cockpit. They can be a bit spendy, but they are rock solid and very versatile if you change things around in the future.

      I bought a stand just for the brakes in the "office" room and that didn't go well with wifey. That kind of rig is not happening unless a dedicated room and house around it is invested in. Kinda expensive. Lol

    Fantastic setup man. What happened to the Podium DD I saw in one of your older videos?

    • @nerdthewise

      Sold in favor of the Simucube Pro for a number of reasons: it offers more control and does not force you into Fanatec’s ecosystem as I had enough poor experiences and frustrations with the
      direction of the company. A lot of the time it seems like they do not care at all about their customer base.

    • @OhItsThat
      @OhItsThat 4 роки тому

      Brandon Boyd Yeah man. I was pretty deep in the Fanatec ecosystems when I bought a DD2 in July 2019. I immediately realized I made a mistake. Beside the performance which wasn’t and still isn’t great. The janky pain in the ass QR system with its flex was really a blow as far as buyer remorse goes.
      It really makes me feel like I own an inferior product when compared to all other dd wheel systems. I could have bought the SimUCube 2 Pro but my inpatient ass couldn’t wait a few more weeks for DSD to get them in stock.
      But also in my defense I’d owned a CSW V2 for years and never had any issue. At that point out of the CSW V2, V3 pedals, couple of wheels, handbrake and the CS shifter. The shifter was the only thing I had issue with that ever needed repair.
      Where I sit today with Fanatec or my opinion today is pretty poor. Like I don’t recommend many of their products. That shifter was repaired and only worked for another 8 months then broke again. Fanatec tried to say it was EMI issues with my rig. I ended up buying another brand new shifter and it worked fine....for 8 months then it developed the same issue as the previous shifter. (Selecting wrong gears which is a widely known issue) I had to have it repaired and it’s working for now.
      Thankfully I’ve had a Pro-Sim H- Pattern on order for a few months. Should get it soon. (According to Pro-Sim it’s gonna be milled out of a solid block of aluminum instead of cast iron now)
      Did I mention my DD2 needed repairs within the first few months? Yeah, the fan in the unit would run at 100% RPM randomly when I’d turn the wheel on. That started about a month after getting it.
      They said “FW” would fix it but after a few months of new FW and drivers and switching back and forth to appease Fanatec, the problem only got worse. It got to the point every time I turned the wheel on the fan would crank up to 100% rpm and never turn off. Thank god for headphones.
      I plan on ordering the HPP JBVs soon so I can get rid of the V3s and be one step closer to leaving the ecosystem.
      Once I do that I’m gonna start looking at options for getting rid of the DD2. I’ll never be happy with it. I no longer like any of their steering wheels. Most of them have sort of a childish look to them now.
      That and they just keep rebranding the old sh*t and acting like it’s something new because it’s a “limited edition” causing people to loose their minds over this stuff. Fan boys just doing their thing I guess.
      Currently I mostly run Podium Hubs with real Momo wheels on them. No paddles just two button clusters. Unfortunately both my Podium Hubs have a ton of flex.
      Because of that I don’t see bolting any non Fanatec high end wheels to a Podium Hub to be smart. It’s basically the equivalent of putting wheels and tires from a used up 2000 Toyota Corolla on a showroom floor 2021 Ferrari. Seriously....and so many people are ok with this.

      OhItsThat preaching to the choir here bud, I see a lot of problems with their business model. It seems like they actively dislike their customer base and certainly do not care about their long term happiness. Don’t even get me started on their policy to take money for a product that is still months to years away. Your customers are not VC, don’t use them to float production costs, this isn’t Kickstarter.
