Will you please put a link for the toe socks? Last year I bought some on Amazon and they must be foreign sizing as the toes are really small and tight. I'd love to wear toe socks, but I don't want to waste more money. Thanks.
Suggestion - Crocks "at work" have anti skid on the bottom, so that if you hit water, you won't slide (important for an older person especially). They also have a nice inner sole that gives me more arch support then just a plain crock. But they still have the extra toe space.
I appreciate your senior content, because I can send the videos to my parents. But, I don't know if you realize you're popular in the animation community. A lot of us spend an alarming amount of time at our computers. Shoulder, wrist, and lower back issues are very common. Thank you from the under 40 desk-jockey community!

Great video! I finally realized (after 1.5 years of really bad foot pain) that a shoe with a wide toe box is a huge positive game changer along with foot exercises. Thank you for all of the information and showing how to stretch my toes!
Zamberlan hiking, hunting, etc. shoes, like the 996 VIOZ GTX, etc, have a much wider, comfortable toe box so I can wear two half sizes smaller than I can with any other similar shoe brand.
I have noted a huge improvement after purchasing zero drop running shoes with a wide toe box. I suffered from achilles tendonitis for over a year before finding these running shoes and haven't had a problem ever since. My knees have also improved since wearing these shoes (Altras).
Thanks guys. I haven't exercised my toes since in physical therapy from a broken foot and have developed balance issues the last few years. Forgot about stretching and strengthening the muscles and tendons, needed this reminder.
My daughter introduced my to barefoot shoes and a wide toe box. No going back!! I like that you recommend “Dynamic Aging” by Katy Bowman in your book list. She is the master of this topic. 🦶
I bought some zero drop shoes for work. My feet began to hurt every day in my ever increasing cushioning shoes. I wore wide toe box, zero drop, minimal cushion shoes for 13 hours the first day, and I was surprised that my feet didn't hurt. I'm a nurse and walk a lot every day.
I have metatarsalgia due to pinched nerves and have even had alcohol injections to kill nerves as pain was so severe. I appreciate your guidance to help balance.
Excellent suggestions! My wife and I gradually moved into barefoot style shoes (wide toe box, zero rise, multiple brands) over the past 3-4 years and have noticed a significant improvement (read: decrease) in low back pains, hip, knee aches, toe function etc. "Normal" shoes are not designed for our anatomical structures!
I don't wear shoes in the house. I did notice though that when the pandemic started and I wasn't working anymore (I had only been part time) or going anywhere at all, my feet really did widen out!
After less-than-satisfactory foot surgery with pins in the toes, these are tough, but I’ll try adapting. Warning that my PT was doing range-of-motion stretches on one of my big toes and broke it! Yikes!
I am not sure if it was one of your videos, but the idea was to get less hip pain you practice landing on the ball of your foot and the toes as opposed to heal striking.
I have a pinched nerve between my little toe and the one next to it in my left foot. Went to a podiatrist and he said it was very common and to wear sandals (luckily I live in Phoenix) or wide toe box shoes. The pain was horrible but that solved the problem. I am going to start those exercises today. Thanks!
You guys have such good content. You hit on things that make a difference to all ages. I miss Brad, but Mike is doing a good job. One suggestion, it would be nice if Mike adopted the more typical PT form of dress. It just looks more professional. The faded jeans are distracting. Just my opinion, still rocking it.
I knew a guy who lost most of his toes in a mountain climbing disaster which killed three of his friends and he almost froze to death. He could walk but he always looked like he was fighting for balance although he kept climbing and mountaineering.. Nice guy. Was eventually killed in another mountaineering disaster.
Crocs are convenient and comfortable as you mentioned. However, I've noticed that they are terrible on wet or slippery surfaces and increase the risk of falling. So beware.
There is a version called Crocks "at work" that have an anti-skid bottom, like a kitchen worker would need. also a few hiking versions have a more rubberized bottom.
I wish I could bring my foot up on my knee like that but I have arthritis in my hips so that’s a pass. I don’t think people realize how lucky they are that have hip mobility. I never had it very much even as a child.
Marbles put on a towel and picked up with toes was one that physical therapy taught me. Is that a good exercise for balance. I fall at least two times a year and get hurt. many other mis steps where I catch myself.
I have a so-called "mouse-bite" in my big toe joint from gout. The doctors say, that I will have problems with the joint later on. That's pretty scary. I have not had a gout attack in years. Is there anything gout sufferers need to be aware of, before doing these exercises?
My big toes are rigid. I get intense pain in the joint if i try to bend it. I have to swing my legs out to walk. Ive been trying to make it bend. It's excruciating. What do I do?
I was told that bunions can’t be cured without surgery. My left foot is always swollen. I have a bunion and started having plantar fasciitis, my toes are numb from peripheral neuropathy but my second toe hurts when my big toe steps on it. I’m using silicone spacers that help. After I got over the plantar fasciitis I had a partial tear in the Achilles’ tendon. My right foot and ankle were hurt two years ago this month when I fell two steps into my garage and broke my left wrist and had two massive tears in my left shoulder needing a reverse shoulder replacement and fractured my right ankle and severed the tendon underneath my big toe. Now I can’t flex my big right toe down and do have balance problems. I noticed my gait is different. Who would think so much damage can come from falling down two steps. I will try these stretches and am not sure how not being able to flex my right toe affects my balance. I keep hobbling along and feel so much older than my 60 years. Thanks
My toes are very short and I can push them back but there is zero mobility pushing them down. A podiatrist once told me that I had zero flexibility in my feet even with the push back of my toes they don’t go far back at all but pushing down is pretty si worse and has zero flexibility. It is too painful to move the in that direction. Any ideas? It couldn’t do the towel grab at all when I was working g with the physical therapist it just wasn’t happening.
My doctor warned me that flip flops greatly increase fall risk but I was still wearing them around the house until my dog stepped on the back of one and made me trip lol. Then I saw a lady catch the toe of her flip flop on a curb and take a hard fall onto concrete. I am using Boswellia,( frankincense) it has worked great! Taking care of both knees and my SI joint on the R side. I had lower back fusion L4,L5,S1. The arthritis had grown down from L5 and was rubbing on S1. I did what the DR. wanted and had titanium bars put in my back. I can't sit on a wooden chair for more than a 1/2 hour! I don't want any more restrictions from metal pieces. So I started looking around and Boswellia is what came up. It took me 2 1/2 bottles but I have no more chronic pain!!
Hi, before you go to the surgeon, I would try PRP injections. I already had osteoarthritis in both ankles , in which I had surgery.
