Hi, I bought this lens, used from Japan asi it offered free international shipping. I didn´t know how old it was, and that it wasn´t AF focus. But after the initial shock i discovered that it is much better than the kit lens I had. So, thank you for this review that I found very interesting and useful for me.
Thanks for the compliment. 😊 The lens is really great. One fun fact. I have read that the 50mm 1.8 AF-D has the same optical formula and should perform equally but with AF. I have not tested the lens, but I have it here and will do at some point. 😀
tyvm for the video. from your research, would you say the series 'e' version's IQ is as good as the japanese version of the lens? i've heard about the difference in build quality but not image quality. i have the 'e' series version.
You´re welcome. :-) Yes, I also rechecked this. The Series-E should have a couple of weaknesses, as I have read. One is the only single coating, then the build quality is almost all plastic and what I really would name a deal breaker is the only 0,6m or 2ft close focus distance. Sharpness wise, it should be comparable. How would you rate yours in terms of wide open sharpness?
@@manugeee Since it is a vintage lens, it has to be really bad AND I don't like it for me to notice how soft or sharp it is. if it's a vintage lens and it's really bad and i DO like it - i don't care. in this case, it seemed to be sharp enough for the images I've taken with it - night shots using a tripod, mostly. I don't remember having any complaints at all.

Hey, that was a superbe review ! I'll definitely be looking for one in Europe, tough task but it will be the perfect travel lens for my F2.
Thank you very much 😊
It definitely fits very well to your F2. I use it with my FM2 and it is a great SLR travel combo. 😄
