Kolkata is also the home of Mother Teressa. Love from Kolkata. :)
Name did not change. It was always Kolkata in Bengali language. British could not pronounce, so they named it Calcutta. So officialy it was changed from Calcutta to Kolkata later to go with original Bengali name. Also India's most Noble Laureates are from Kolkata or worked in Kolkata for their prize winning work.
The sounds of the crowd inside the stadium was so loud that the players could barely hear their own voice it was tough for the players to communicate so it was reduced

@@krithikkumar959 i know literacy rate is high but I'm talking about knowledge that's why south Indian state don't have Nobel Prize winner and that's why we have 5 Nobel Prize winner this is just one example what ever you are a Punjabi though

@@snippyroy6305 see I don't hate any indian states out there, you got it all wrong,you were saying that Bengalis are the most knowledgeable but I am saying that all indian states are great and each one of them have produced some of the best people in the world,its not fair to say that only bengalis are most knowledgeable,I took south India just for reference.
You forgot about kolkata food which is so delicious, especially fish varieties.
I am from Kolkata. I just want to thank the britishers who came to Kolkata. They not just only help building the heritage structures but also helped to build the nation and it's rich culture. Hey Rebecca, The Salt Lake Football Stadium was downsized by FIFA while modernising it. The huge former capacity also resulted in a stampede in 1975 during the Calcutta Derby(equivalent to the Manchester derby or El Classic in india)...It's a historic stadium..Lionel Messi made his international debut there and Oliver Kahn also played his last match in the same stadium....Please visit Calcutta(natives still call it use the old name)...You'll love it

India gave world the first University... That time people from different countries to study there... And when britishers left they burnt that University. No one knows why they did it, may be some highly useful knowledge was there or may be they didn't want world to see that we had world's first University. And that University was better than today's University in study and architecture - Just a fact no hate
the football stadium was not very modern and clean when it allowed so many people. so, to make it more modern and beautiful the stadium was downsized
