Can I second this?! I’m a caretaker for my husband who has Alzheimers. We’re living off our SS so I can take care of him. Money is really limited! Worked on my wife's 2006 Toyota Camry. The switch is difficult to find, as it's tucked behind a spring and has metal brackets to either side, but a penny with some double sided duct tape was enough to solve the issue until I can track down a grommet. Thanks for the video, very much appreciated!

In the event that it doesn’t start, you can try to jump start it with another car and some cables or a battery pack which is a great tool to have handy! I love your optimism and positive outlook! My motor blower and motor resistor just went bad and I had these guys fix it but the problem with my car is I got a Nissan versa and you gotta go up under the driver side and remove the pedals and stuff to do that well they damage my grommet and thanks for your video. I found that out. Thanks a lot man I thought I was gonna spend hundred dollars but I’m only gonna spend a few bucks. That’s cool.

Another great solution to break the circuit. Instead of going to the battery location, you could just unplug the pigtail going to the switch. Unfortunately the last thing we would want anyone to do is unplug the wrong switch under their dash, hence the battery suggestion. With that being said, the battery location on some vehicles are more difficult to access than others so thank you for adding this tip! 😎🤙🏾

@@Edwinovoine Absolutely, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen cars driving around with the brake lights stuck on and I immediately go ahah 💡 I know what’s wrong. Of course it also poses a danger to the other drivers since they can’t tell if that car is braking or not so I always try to switch lanes to avoid that. Yeah I love the S2000! Hopefully I’ll bring it back on the channel soon 🤞
Glad it helped! Check with your local auto parts store like O’Reilly, or Advance Auto Parts. They may have something that works. As a short term solution until you are able to get the grommet, you could put a small bolt and nut in place of the grommet just so that it makes contact with the switch and turns the brake lights off. Yep. One brake light on 1995 Integra was stuck ON. As described, I found two broken plastic pieces on the driver's floor. I will get replacement part. Perhaps, one brake light is also out, since both brake lights were not stuck ON. I'd just moved the car 15 hours earlier, likely when plastic fell out, draining the battery to point car would not start, but brake light stuck ON. Disconnected negative terminal for now! THANKS!!! Seems like eventually ALL old Integra switches will age and break!
Absolutely! It sounds like one brake light itself may have been out prior to the brake light switch grommet breaking apart. Most definitely a common issue when cars get start to age. You’ve got it! Great diagnosing! 💯

I have a Toyota 2002 MR2 Spyder. I think this is my problem, with lights staying on. I found a round black rubber type disc on my floor board. Is there any way to get up in there, to do this a little more easily. Like through the front trunk? My car is so small, it's very hart to get up in there to fix it, by way of inside.
@@Livindaybyday that’s a really nice car you have there! So I believe the firewall would block you from accessing that point from the front trunk. However, a tip to make accessing that point easier would be to put the top back and move the driver seat as far back as possible. Putting the top down will give you more light to see where the grommet insert point is easily and pushing the driver seat all the way back will give you more room to work with in that area. With the S2000, I actually kneeled outside the driver section and I was able to twist in there to get to it. The access point isn’t too far up on the brake pedal. Facts, if you have a factory head unit. I honestly disconnect my battery every time I pull a fuse as an added precaution. However, I have an aftermarket head unit so programming it is pretty easy.

Usually when your brake light switch grommet breaks, you will see little hardened rubber pieces on the floorboard. In the event that you don’t see anything on the floorboard, it could be a different issue. If your car isn’t receiving power, my first point of diagnosis would be checking the battery. You can jump start the car and see if it receives power and turns on. Once you do that, go to the back of your car and take a look at the brake lights. If they stay on even when you are not applying pressure to the brake pedal then you’re having an issue with the brake light switch. When the brake lights stay on with the car off, it draws a constant electric load from the battery leading it to drain. Hope this helps!
It sounds like that may be an issue with the bulb itself. If the light turns on when you turn on the headlights but doesn’t signal, get brighter, when you step on the brake pedal, it’s a sign of a bad brake light bulb. In many instances, the same bulb is utilized for tail lights and brake lights. Basically one side of the connector signals once you hit the brakes and the other side signals when you turn on your parking lights/headlights. So if you swap that bulb to a new bulb, it should solve your problem. Best of luck! 😎

Put a bolt with a nut until the part arrives, btw its the same for the accel pedal. That's for your cruise control in case you are like me and trying to figure out why it doesnt work even though you debugged the whole system 😂😂😂

@@leongrayson5098 good question, it could be a faulty brake light switch itself that is causing the brake lights to stay on even when the brake pedal isn’t pressed. If you found pieces of the rubber grommet on your floorboard, that’s a tell-tale sign that the grommet broke and just needs to be replaced. You may already know this, however, when replacing the grommet, ensure that the flat side of the grommet is the part that makes contact with the brake light switch. The pointed part of the grommet should face away from the switch. If the brake lights themselves just won’t turn on, I would start by replacing the bulbs. If that doesn’t solve the issue, I would refer to your owners manual and check the taillight/brake light fuse. Then, if further troubleshooting is necessary, I would check the brake light switch assembly to ensure the plastic piece that goes in and out isn’t sticking and stuck in. Hope this helps. 🤙🏾
@@TheActualKingSmiththat’s also a great suggestion. I find that the majority of people would find it easier to disconnect the battery than to search for the correct fuse. However, for some, it makes more sense to just pull the fuse.

@@Jamesblonde0007 that’s absolutely a great workaround! The only concern some have is since the bolt is metal, the plastic plunger on the brake light switch tends to wear out faster. Whereas, when you replace the grommet with another grommet it puts less pressure on the brake light switch plunger since the grommet is rubber. 💯🤙🏾 However, I think the bolt will work just fine! 😎

@@Edwinovoine Absolutely, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen cars driving around with the brake lights stuck on and I immediately go ahah 💡 I know what’s wrong. Of course it also poses a danger to the other drivers since they can’t tell if that car is braking or not so I always try to switch lanes to avoid that.

Glad it helped! Check with your local auto parts store like O’Reilly, or Advance Auto Parts. They may have something that works. As a short term solution until you are able to get the grommet, you could put a small bolt and nut in place of the grommet just so that it makes contact with the switch and turns the brake lights off. Yep. One brake light on 1995 Integra was stuck ON. As described, I found two broken plastic pieces on the driver's floor. I will get replacement part. Perhaps, one brake light is also out, since both brake lights were not stuck ON. I'd just moved the car 15 hours earlier, likely when plastic fell out, draining the battery to point car would not start, but brake light stuck ON. Disconnected negative terminal for now! THANKS!!! Seems like eventually ALL old Integra switches will age and break!
Absolutely! It sounds like one brake light itself may have been out prior to the brake light switch grommet breaking apart. Most definitely a common issue when cars get start to age. You’ve got it! Great diagnosing! 💯

I have a Toyota 2002 MR2 Spyder. I think this is my problem, with lights staying on. I found a round black rubber type disc on my floor board. Is there any way to get up in there, to do this a little more easily. Like through the front trunk? My car is so small, it's very hart to get up in there to fix it, by way of inside.
@@Livindaybyday that’s a really nice car you have there! So I believe the firewall would block you from accessing that point from the front trunk. However, a tip to make accessing that point easier would be to put the top back and move the driver seat as far back as possible. Putting the top down will give you more light to see where the grommet insert point is easily and pushing the driver seat all the way back will give you more room to work with in that area. With the S2000, I actually kneeled outside the driver section and I was able to twist in there to get to it. The access point isn’t too far up on the brake pedal. Easier to take out the fuse than to disconnect the battery because have to reprogram radio every time battery is reconnected
Facts, if you have a factory head unit. I honestly disconnect my battery every time I pull a fuse as an added precaution. However, I have an aftermarket head unit so programming it is pretty easy.

Usually when your brake light switch grommet breaks, you will see little hardened rubber pieces on the floorboard. In the event that you don’t see anything on the floorboard, it could be a different issue. If your car isn’t receiving power, my first point of diagnosis would be checking the battery. You can jump start the car and see if it receives power and turns on. Once you do that, go to the back of your car and take a look at the brake lights. If they stay on even when you are not applying pressure to the brake pedal then you’re having an issue with the brake light switch.
When the brake lights stay on with the car off, it draws a constant electric load from the battery leading it to drain.

what if its just one brake light that stays on, and only is on when i turn parking/headlights on? and when i actually brake it doesnt light up?
It sounds like that may be an issue with the bulb itself. If the light turns on when you turn on the headlights but doesn’t signal, get brighter, when you step on the brake pedal, it’s a sign of a bad brake light bulb. In many instances, the same bulb is utilized for tail lights and brake lights. Basically one side of the connector signals once you hit the brakes and the other side signals when you turn on your parking lights/headlights. So if you swap that bulb to a new bulb, it should solve your problem. Best of luck! 😎

Put a bolt with a nut until the part arrives, btw its the same for the accel pedal. That's for your cruise control in case you are like me and trying to figure out why it doesnt work even though you debugged the whole system 😂😂😂

@@leongrayson5098 good question, it could be a faulty brake light switch itself that is causing the brake lights to stay on even when the brake pedal isn’t pressed. If you found pieces of the rubber grommet on your floorboard, that’s a tell-tale sign that the grommet broke and just needs to be replaced.
You may already know this, however, when replacing the grommet, ensure that the flat side of the grommet is the part that makes contact with the brake light switch. The pointed part of the grommet should face away from the switch.
If the brake lights themselves just won’t turn on, I would start by replacing the bulbs.
If that doesn’t solve the issue, I would refer to your owners manual and check the taillight/brake light fuse.
Then, if further troubleshooting is necessary, I would check the brake light switch assembly to ensure the plastic piece that goes in and out isn’t sticking and stuck in.

Might not be the smartest but I found a bolt that just so happens to fit in there and that fixed it
@@Jamesblonde0007 that’s absolutely a great workaround! The only concern some have is since the bolt is metal, the plastic plunger on the brake light switch tends to wear out faster. Whereas, when you replace the grommet with another grommet it puts less pressure on the brake light switch plunger since the grommet is rubber. 💯🤙🏾
However, I think the bolt will work just fine! 😎
