link to the battery for the 897 please
Not the latest tech by any means but still a great portable radio. 👍 I considered a built in battery but opted to fit a tuner (LDG YT100) into the battery compartment and use a separate battery pack made up from Headway cells which will give longer use on a charge and can deliver the full 100w if required.😊
Hello! I saw your post regarding mounting the LDG tuner internally. Do you have any pictures of the arrangement? Thanks
By default, if you use the built in battery it limits tx power to 20 watts. Because of this I chose to go with the PSU. I carry a standard power cable with power poles, in case I want to operate on battery though. I have the FC-30 as well, but I have replaced it with the LDG that mounts in the same place. I keep mine in a Pelican style box, in my camper. It makes a nice package that I can deploy in minutes at a camp site, and with the LDG I can essentially tune up a pop can. It is a very versatile, field expedient radio.
My elmer gave me mine when I got my general, 6 years ago and still kicking
Great radio
Batteries for the FT 897d are in plenty supply... good luck finding a way to charge them with CD-24's as they are as rare as hens teeth. They no longer make CD-24's, and if you do find one,
the price is more than the radio!
I have the OEM PSU for my 897, not the battery. Been thinking about using it as my first POTA rig, the battery & tuner would be a bonus. One nice thing about the 897, low power draw in receive.
I can’t find any info on how these charge once I’ve bought them. The only reference to charging I can find is in the manual and seems to require two separate parts that are both difficult to find.

Great rig.
Put up the link for the Lithium Battery, been looking long time. Have the Nimh version and it works fine...
