RIP April Stevens - she just passed away at nearly 94 years of age. April, born in 1929, turned 37 in 1966. No one could have guessed it - she seemed here as a very young (early twenties) performer. Such was the music market, then as now - young and younger was demanded, and nothing else! Bless her pretty and talented heart. Condolences to brother Nino.

But 11 years later along her and her brother Nino's hits, and I loved 'em! And now 60 years later, I find these live performances.. Fabulous! No lip-synching, no corny sets, just their stripped down great singing. Really wish we could have heard more from them!

The songs were part of an hour long weekly prime time show in Australia, Brian Henderson's Bandstand. This was from 9/3/66. You can find the entire show on You Tube. Most acts were Australian. There would be some American or British acts also. The show starts with Deep Purple. Later in the show you have the middle songs (different outfits), with an interview in between. At the end of the show is All Strung Out, followed by the B side, which is under the closing credits and unfortunately cut short.

I adore the part at 0:57-1:00 . I think they are both singing the same line, but in different ways. April seems to be punching the words up high and bright (and almost faster?) while Nino is more flat and low. The difference makes for an interesting and even more beautiful performance. You can tell these two are talented musicians who play around with their songs instead of going for the easy and plain route.

I was born in the 60s, too late to hear this duo when they first came out. I remember hearing Deep Purple for the first time back in the 80s on the local oldies station. I liked it, but it didn’t knock me out. It wasn’t until recently on UA-cam that I came across it again, and I realized two things I didn’t realize before: A. It’s a great song, and B. The female singer, April, is totally gorgeous. Thanks, UA-cam.

I remember these guys did the Lloyd Thaxton show, our Los Angeles local TV show where Lloyd would have groups of kids from local high schools come on there and dance and feature some of the best music of the time. These guys performed with some of my friends we're on the show

Yes,I have an idea, not confirmed, that they were backup singers, on two tracks of a early 1964 album " On The Move" from singer-guitarist Trini Lopez, produced & arranged by Don Costa no credits listed, but it sounds like a vocal duo on those tracks was recorded,& mixed in. I'm sure that Don Costa, this vocal duo & many others in the music industry helped Trini Lopez in that initial period of his career in this way, in the LA/ Hollywood music scene

April could sing sweet and soft, sexy or do torch standards. Notice how they harmoni,ed beautifully without drowning each each other out! They should have been much better promoted than they were. April said that they weren't drug in yet when the Beatles hit the scene.

At a time when you had 2, maybe 3 TV channels to choose from, 500 singing acts and comedy shows fighting for survival, no youtube to turn on at random, it was easy for good talent to be passed over. But in a few years we can catch up on what we missed, if we avoid Pink Floyd.

🤔🤔🤔 Still sounds great at this age, so soothing and mellow. Now I understand why Richie Blackmore’s grandma loved it so much. In fact she loved it so much he decided to name his Hard Rocking band after her favorite song. 👍👍

I remember the song, Deep Purple, becoming a huge ear worm when I was around 11 years old, and this song, by this duet, was newly published. The microphone cord problem, she walked onto the stage with, was corrected, discretely, during her closeup.
