Off The Grid Solar Build Cost

  • The latest Project for our Juice Shack is going to be bonding the Solar System. A Nickle here and a Dime there, all adds up to money. Prices are too high, so saving money is priority even if it requires time and effort to make your own power System. Copper and associated materials used for earth grounding are very expensive. Follow along here for more behind the scenes information or on the main channel for all the building of the homestead listed below:

The nationaling about those studs, those grounding studs, you can screw one to each one, as long as you keep the holes lined up, you can run that grounding wire all the way down through from one to the other, all the way to the end, and they'll all be grounded on that one. Leg and then you can bring the other end. You can take it to your other section and go all the way down from the other end. Come all the way down to the other end and then go over and connect it to the top one, and if you got enough left over from there, come straight down with your one leg that you came from the first one all the way down and go to your grounding broad and then take that same wire that was off the bottom and just take it and stick it in the top one in with the top leg on another metal grounding, lug, to where you can put it, the two grounding lugs on the same bolt and ground, both lugs wires to that one bug and take the grounding wire.Down

Those folks forgot their Q Y B A pills. I for one enjoy your channels and like Pappy always said Quit Your Belly Aching and listen and learn something ! Thanks for sharing with us Richard, an awful lot goes into Solar Set-ups that you don't see and by your explaining Solar Installations you can save yourself so extra trips to the hardware stores if you pay attention. Keep up the great videos and the fun you all have around there. These gab sessions are like I was setting there on the porch listening to an old friend jawing with me and I give thanks that I can hear (with a little help with headphones and hearing-aids) to you. Stay safe. Fred.

Thanks, Fred. I think it might be new people that land on the channel thinking that they’re going to see me working and they actually don’t. But I just thought it was worth mentioning again which I’ll probably have to do it over and over many times because lots of folks actually skip through videos instead of watching them. Because I will get comments And then a second comment will come through stating that sorry they hadn’t watched it to the answer yet. Anyway, we hope that all is well and that you guys have a great weekend.

There are short wires with clips on each end to bond solar panels together. I am not able to find a listing for them right now. But I think they are a couple a dollar each best I can remember.

One is doing a good job and has been doing one fine job for a long time. Let the people complaine if that is what they do about one working. I get the expense of all the cooper and stuff to put the system together. Hope one got my letter too! I got two solar pannels here that are glass and it is about so many whats. I got two marine batterys charging up. Two six volt lights, the inverter and what ever else. I hooked it all up handicapped. I hung the flatscreen tvs up on the walls too all by myself. I work alone too. I have the portable little solar banks to charge up the cell phones too. I got to learn some about solar. My branches from the Oak tree are still drying out. They are getting lighter some too. I got me some clubs and walking sticks and other sticks waiting for me to finish sanding them up. I got five pounds of Sumountra Dark Roast coffee beans and I ground up most of these too. This coffee is very strong and I am very awake today. Try to get the people who want one to work more than talk to come and help one out. Many wont show up. I would though. One would not want to watch me work though. I can climb the ladder only so far up now provided that I am tied off with the saftey gear. I smack into the project instead of falling to the ground! It will still wake me up. I got the saftey kit in the five gallon bucket, the rope, the belt, the roof achor with screws and all. Just the nails and the screws for the buildings to be put together coast a lot too. I still have a box of roofing nails, used some of these. Been up on my two and one half story older mill home too and have put on one side of one of the roofs. The neighbors were comming out scraring me , "don't fall and all of that stuff." None of them would come up and help me out. The boards I was standing on are still up there. Paul is not allowed on the roof. I got me a good framing hammer too. I have the newmatic nailers too. Yet, I like a good hammer to use too. I got to go for now. Paul

Richard, when is Jennifer drilling her well for her house? Depending the volume of water her well produces, if it is a high volume well, it might be worth running a water line down to her well to supply you with well water.
I great Uncle and his daughter shared a water well ast the spring died up that he used to supply his house with water, as here well was very deep and produced over 20 gallons per min, and Uncle Georgie being 90 years old, they just tied his house it to the well, as he refused to go on city water.
When the spring started flowing, they left him on the well and the spring only filled his catfish pond.

Not sure when she might be doing that as well as getting her power up there. That’s a thought we could do that. However, I was trying to create an area up here that would be sustainable in case something happened that they would have a fall back. But that might be something that we would think about in the future.

    Hey brother,
Sorry I wasn't able to get down there to help you out, as my situation up here in Washington County has had me tied down for months. I do want to ask you if you have checked article 250 in the NEC concerning grounding and bonding of the neutral conductor. To avoid "ground loops", which can wreak havoc in sensitive electrical equipment, the code says to bond the neutral to the ground at the distribution panel ONLY, and do not bond the grounds to the neutral at any other points in the entire circuit (which includes all sub panels). Also, you can, and should ground the electrical boxes of the sub panels to separate ground rods nearest to those panels...but, they are a case ground only, and should not be part of the ground path of the source ground from the "Juice Shack", where your distribution panel will be. The neutrals and grounds in the sub panels should be insulated from the ground path of the case grounds of the sub panels. Look up "ground loops", "grounding", "neutral bonding", with sub panels involved that are in different locations away from the main distribution panel. You've probably already done your homework, and since you worked for the phone company, your already aware of ground loops and noise....but in case that slipped by ya, I prayerfully hope this helps

Hey Richard, not only is the cost savings from having off-grid power a plus, but you are also not beholden to the outages that people on the grid commonly have. I know you've mentioned it's not uncommon for your sister to be out several hours (or longer) after or during a storm, and natural disasters like the recent hurricane damage had some people out of power for days and weeks. So finishing up the juice shack and solar, water catchment, finishing workshop, back porch and deck, gazebo...then you'll be all caught up...😂😂😂
