What citizen is doing with their solar quartz is amazing. They are definitely the leader of the Japanese pack in that regards. Ive always loved citizen, and im happy more enthusiasts are starting to give them the recognition they deserve
Cheap is the wrong word to use. What is cheap? To me, $300 to $500 isn’t cheap. It’s all relative. A Rolex is “cheap” compared to a Jacob or AP or a Journe. Value is the correct word. What do I get for the money?
Agree, some people in the watch community lose the plot with the cost of watches. For perspective, if the average person makes $25 an hour, it’ll take 20 hours of work to buy a $500 watch, which is 2 and half working days for the average person.
I totally agree. This is not cheap. Cheap to me is $200 and below and that is stretching it a bit. Don't get me wrong I love watches in every price range but with the cost of living a couple of mouths to feed, inflation The common everyday man that is watching this video your definition of cheap is unrealistic.

The range of randomly affordable Citizen Eco-Drive models is surprisingly vast and well put together. They design tons and discontinue all.the.time. I started collecting watches 5 years ago, and started with a Citizen spree. I'd guess at least 50% of the ones I got are listed as discontinued on the Citizen US website. Until I paid way too much for a discontinued Alpinist, a Citizen NJ-model - mimicking a Seiko Cocktail time Presage - was the watch I spent the most for: $260 imported. Imagine the blue cocktail time but with a titanium case/bracelet and flat sapphire as crystal. Movement was miyota low8-series, though. So no hacking or handwinding.
I have a Boderry Sea Turtle in Titanium Gray. The bezel is so light that it really does feel cheap. I would never use it as a dive watch because it's too easy to bump the bezel and accidentally move it. The value for the money is incredible. I love the dial design. It is clearly inspired by the Submariner but it's got its own unique spin.
i dont agree with everything you say but this was a nice video. if you ever had a citizen you know.. lots of great value and original design micros out there. if you want swiss with great design/specs/value/history Certina is my first choice..

You keep including that gorgeous Beaucroft in your videos, I'm gonna go and impulse-buy it 😆. That watch is incredibly beautiful and original. Monro has super-cool case design. Rivelta is a solid surprise, I think they did a great job with the steel bezel. Awesome video and cool that you included one of Marc's watches, rarely anybody includes them in this type of reviews yet they offer a ton of value and originality. Good stuff!
For some people, buying expensive watches signifies a sense of accomplishment, while for perhaps a larger group of people, it is for aspirational individuals who want to be a little flashy but are also a little short on savings. As a seasoned collector in times when Rolex, Patek Philippe, or Audemars Piguet watches are reaching ridiculous prices, I choose to rediscover "mid-tier luxury" brands like Mido, Tissot, Hamilton, Certina, and Oris. I have found exceptionally well-crafted watches with silicon or titanium springs, excellent crystals, superb ceramics, bracelets, and folding clasps. Orient watches are really good too! And also all of those mentioned before keep excellent precision in COSC territory. Not everything is about achievement or being flashy; it is also about getting the best bargain. I am very happy wearing these watches from brands that have a wealth of expertise and some pedigree.
Really like the tag heuer with the gold dial. Do you know what size it is? I found on one ebay thats 34 mm, and wanted to make sure the one in your video is similar. thank you
Honestly the reason why I feel the promaster isnt getting enough love is mainly the fact that it is quartz, but has a similar price tag to automatics like the mako/kano lineups. Also not many people actually care about the ISO certification, which probably incurs unnecessary cost for the company and drives the prices up. You have to understand that ISO certification is not warranted on many watches, not because of the fact that they are unable to make the cut, but rather because it costs a lot of money, which is why mainly luxury brands like omega will do it as the increase is price is like a drop in the ocean for them. Also the mineral crystal really isnt helping them as orient divers slightly more expensive can afford to have sapphires on them. Orient has also started to make makos with solar, and the Mako Solar Chronographs cost about as much as the promaster while bringing way more to the table. I can only see the promaster being used by divers who really want that certification, otherwise it feels like a less value option to me.
Another fantastic list Kieron! The Islander, Signum and Beaucroft really stand out for me. Also the Casio Edifice offers amazing value for money and as always you've chosen some great straps to show it off! Thanks mate, as always an enjoyable and informative video 👍

I've recently began my obsession as a watch collector. And i must say- out of all the luxury brands I've been researching, for me the MAMACOO's watches are the most intriguing.
Agree with the crystal part, I put a thin protector on when got it, so if I slam it on something it won't hit the glass. The movement however is pretty underrated, it has a intresting built in shock resistance mechanism, is very cold resistant and runs twice as accurate as my 4r36 movements while also getting the same gain everyday, unlike the seiko, Ive however gone away from buying 4r movements at all at this point, have two really solid 7s26 seiko movements, but the 4r have I not managed to get a half decent one of yet 😢
@@kaywinyA great watch. One of my favourite watches. I see they became relative expensive as I paid 350 Euro's. Had to import from the UK but that was before Brexit.
Crazy that people are paying up to £500 for the diminishing supply of NOS SKXs when its contemporary, the Citizen "Lefty" Automatic in the old smaller 42mm case is still around for under £200. That's an ISO rated diver which was used for a time without modification as the dive watch of the Italian Navy.
I agree. You can find some for as little as £150 too. Absolutely bonkers pricing on them. The best watches are the underappreciated ones! Appreciate you watching!
Got the automatic coke 42 ish mm promaster as my chunky fun tooltastic ISO summer watch. I do have a smaller Seiko prospex solar diver, as my year around GADA that has a matter dial stamped dial like the skx. But its fun taking out the promaster when the sleeves comes off and the shorts on in the summer heat 😁

We don't value Citizen? Citizen is arguably the best value for money watch brand in the world, they are also arguably the most advanced movement maker too. The caliber 0100 is the most accurate commercially available watch movement. It boasts an accuracy of ±1 second per year, which is currently unparalleled in the industry. What do you mean we don't give them enough credit? Judging them by the movements they make they are the best watch maker in the world. @cunawarit I'm look at the BU0065-64UE, I'm not the most clued up about watches, it just seems a nice watch haha. Just recently started to take an interest.
I live in the Philippines, where we have sun in spades. The Promaster, if you come in from outside the house during daytime, and inside the house you only have sunlight from the windows, no artificial lighting, you can see the lume glowing. Obviously not when you're near a window, but if you step into a shadow area, it lights up.
@TopTierTicker It is fun. The dial is beautiful and the case is well finished. I'm also super impressed with the lume. My first gripe is that for a miyota powered, 39 mm diver, it's thick and heavy: 13.2 mm and 158 g, sized for me. I compared it to two 40 mm divers I have with miyota movements, an NTH nazario and a spinnaker spence. They are 11.6 mm and 10.8 mm, respectively, and weigh 140 g and 135 g. The bracelet is the real letdown. The links do not have enough clearance, and they both nip hairs like a folded link bracelet and get stuck in odd positions. Perhaps I received a bad example but it was either poorly designed, with bad tolerances, or poorly executed. I'm glad I bought one, for the sake of the dial alone, but I don't see myself actually wearing it very often until I can find a better bracelet. It's disappointing but not a bad watch.
100% re Citizen. I've had 7; still own 3. 100% re Islander - they just get better and better. I've just had the 1. Never bought a Signum but don't doubt youre right because everyone says they're great. 100% re vintage Tag but personally I'm a massive coward when it comes to vintage watches. I do have a vintage Roamer though. I was sooooo close to buying one of those Timekeepers. Still on my list. I've owned 8 Edifice, all sold on now. They're superb and always overlooked. All in all, I thought this was spot on BUT BUT BUT please stop flip flopping on homage watches 🙂. You've dedicated lengthy portions of many videos to reasons why you don't buy homages, while at the same time waxing lyrical about that Boderry or Baltany's VC homage. Or at least try to explain why you've made exceptions?
You’re absolutely correct! I just sold a beautifullly mare H820 World time Ecodrive. It was originally a £500 watch but easily matched the build quality of my beloved Christopher Ward Atoll 300 and that’s no smear on CW!
I think I'd like to see a head-to-head of Bertucci and Boderry. I might even grab one of each, myself. I appreciate that Boderry doesn't hide the fact they're a Chinese company.
Funnily enough, MAMACOO's replicas are perfect for people who can actually afford a luxury watch. Because in those social circles, it wouldn't matter and everybody would just assume it's real. You have a yacht and a beach house in Tuscany, of course that replica is real. There isn't a millionaire out there going around with a jeweller's loupe to scrutinize their acquaintance's watch. They'll just go "Oh is that a Patek? Nice, I should really get my hands on one of those, they look great."
Sorry, I’ll never understand why an obviously British channel has to give all of its prices in USD. It just annoys me and makes me not want to watch (no pun intended)
The majority of my audience is actually based in the US. Like 3x more Americans watch me than Brits. Makes sense for me to talk in dollars. Also, it's just the currency everyone in the world understands. I do talk pounds where appropriate though :)
Wait, $250 is a “cheap watch”? Huh? I bought a $16 Casio analog a year ago, it keeps great time and never had an issue with it. That’s a “cheap watch”.

I'm glad I bought one, for the sake of the dial alone, but I don't see myself actually wearing it very often until I can find a better bracelet. It's disappointing but not a bad watch.
Imagine Tag Heuer would do a reissue of the Tag Heuer 2000. That would be sick!
It would be... If they didn't charge an arm and leg for it and make it a limited edition. They'd likely screw it up though lets be honest.
my favorite watch channel. and I only follow the best ones. just so u know 😏☺
Too kind of you. Appreciate you watching. You're one of my favourite viewers! :)
Beaucroft 😍
Great video, but your opening statement is kinda Jody's tag line.
I see the similarity, but it's quite different. Generally speaking though, however it's said, it's true. Appreciate you watching!
shout out to long island watches
Had an eco drive, broke down after a few months, never gave citizen another look.
tons of seikos are ISO certified for diving...that's why they have "diver's" on the dial
Yes... But they cost much more than the promaster. That's the point.
I would wear 10 dollar watch to a black tie option.
Citizen is definitely unrated. Seiko overrated.
You’re absolutely correct! I just sold a beautifullly mare H820 World time Ecodrive. It was originally a £500 watch but easily matched the build quality of my beloved Christopher Ward Atoll 300 and that’s no smear on CW!
Seiko lives from their former glory
I think I'd like to see a head-to-head of Bertucci and Boderry. I might even grab one of each, myself.
I appreciate that Boderry doesn't hide the fact they're a Chinese company.
It'd be a cool comparison for sure! Thanks for watching.
Yes I'm a watch wearer of old, but I don't see the point of buying a watch that you're afraid to wear because of it's ridiculous price tag
You don't get Tag Heuer... yet. It's **so obviously** a statement about smth coming
Do best watches under 200 usd
I'll do it soon :)
That titanium Boderry is in my cart..🤫
Dont tell my (soon to be) wife 😉
These aren’t cheap watches! When I saw the word cheap I thought less than $100. Can you make a video with the best watches for less than $100 or $150.
I recently did best under $50. I'll cover the $100 mark soon :)
More people know about Citizen than Orient
Generally speaking yes. In the enthusiast world, I feel Orient get more love. Especially for their divers.
Thanks for watching!
I've never paid over 30 dollars for a watch. hahaha
Wow! I'd advise you to stop watching watch videos before it becomes an obsession 😂😭 good luck
@@TopTierTicker I get a real laugh out people that will pay thousands for a watch . When you can get one for few dollars.
I wish I could have one but I'm poor and I can't have one but I'm still going to get a plastic watch ⌚😢
Most of those watches are not cheap... :/
Please watch my 'Top 10 watches for $50' if you need something on a tigther budget. Stay well!
Promaster ? Tick , Tick , Tick , Tick .... so annoying !!
Sorry, I’ll never understand why an obviously British channel has to give all of its prices in USD. It just annoys me and makes me not want to watch (no pun intended)
The US dollar is the global currency that everyone understands. Also, the majority of my audience is from the US, by a considerable amount.
@@TopTierTicker Fair play, mate. Can’t argue with that.
I know you have to mention value as dollar because of UA-cam, but since you’re based in UK, you could’ve tell us £ price.
The majority of my audience is actually based in the US. Like 3x more Americans watch me than Brits. Makes sense for me to talk in dollars. Also, it's just the currency everyone in the world understands. I do talk pounds where appropriate though :)
Unpopular opinion: seiko movements 🤮
Citizen Promaster simply doesn't look good.
Wait, $250 is a “cheap watch”? Huh? I bought a $16 Casio analog a year ago, it keeps great time and never had an issue with it. That’s a “cheap watch”.
I have a ny0151 at the forefront of my rotation. It’s green (fugu) and it’s hella fun to wear as being a functional diving watch. Some of the best I have ever given to THE WINDUP WATCH SHOP!! Exemplary service in every way.
