I'd argue it was more expensive than the Toyota at the time it was released. I mean the Toyota was included with the Gameboy, not the other way around. :P
Toyota! Also, something I'd recommend to reduce scratches on plastic screen/screen covers is Meguiars Plast-X, it's intended for cars, but works great on any glossy plastics. Just use masking tape and tape off the area around the screen so you don't polish the textured finish (including over the slight gaps between the screen cover and body, so polishing compound doesn't get in there). This will make it look much better and you'll keep it 100% original. Even just a couple minutes of polishing will make a big difference. (Polish by hand, don't use tools)
Remember don't use your phone while driving instead use a GameBoy and don't forget to swerve dangerously while trying to get the correct lighting on the screen.
I wish companies would start doing this some more... Had the dealership tried to sweeten the deal with say a ps vita maybe I would've bought a more expensive model lol
Toyota I just found both your channels a few weeks ago and I’m hooked. These videos are pretty satisfying to watch. I kinda wanna get my hands on a Gameboy Pocket, I had one as a kid and it was my very first Gameboy so the nostalgia is there.
btw, to help with the discolored plastic, use equal parts baking soda and water, scrub it into the plastic and let it sit for 15 to 30 mins, wash off, and repeat until desired result. You can use this as well to clean off stained food storage containers, like you know how pasta stains it red and just wont come off? it works for cleaning car headlights as well, basically any plastic.
Honestly, its been great seeing you get better at these sorts of restorations. Previously I've commented on things you've done wrong, but in recent videos you've consistently done a great job. Especially great to see a rare gem like this 'toyota' gameboy restored. Great work! I hope you continue to improve as you have been!
I picked one of these up at a 2nd Street second hand store in a town near me for about 15 US dollars or 2000 yen. Works fine, is in pretty good condition. My wife was bewildered by how much they sell for.
Imagine 60 year Steve going to buy a car, his grandson screams TOYOTA! TOYOTA!. Steve is like why? His grandson says good gas mileage, in hopes of tricking his grandfather unto getting him a free gameboy
They should make a switch or switch lite that’s clear and GameBoy themed maybe bundled with a remake of a classic GameBoy game something simple like Super Mario Land or Tennis or Alleyway just a cool little nostalgia trip.
I just can’t believe it, was that just all what nintendo did, stamping a toyota brandname on their gameboypocket? I cannot imagine doing anything cheaper like that but still charging $1000 or so ,just for a stupid brand name, this is beyond believe.
You might want to invest into a ultrasonic cleaner. They’re very gentle and thorough. When I worked in a repair shop we cleaned the boards in a special solution afterwards if they were corroded but there are a lot of uses like cleaning the actual case in a non destructive way.
Always interesting to see what brands, such as Nintendo and Toyota, are willing to help sponsor each other. Kinda like a intercompany handshake sorta deal. Neat.
It was a common thing in Japan to give away stuff like this with cars. They were just a means to curry sales. And as we see with this example, it would just mean Toyota getting a bulk lot of Gameboys and having minimal change (the logo) being appended to them. It was a particularly common tactic globally to offer sweeteners like this - it was a very 80s thing. In Britain we used to have all sorts of stuff like petrol being sold garnered you tokens to swap for all sorts of household items. Seems to have gone the way of the dinosaur these days.
Now this is some genius marketing... Why buy a gameboy, when you can buy a whole car and have a SLIGHT chance of getting a branded gameboy? Perfect logic :D Reminds me of lootboxes for some reason now...
Toyota! dude I love that you're really knowledgable! Also, thanks for having nice hands...its something that not a lot of people on YT care about and we're stuck staring at dry, crusty fingers with bitten nails!
Toyota, Hey I just wanted to say that I really appreciate what you do I've always been into restorations but never anything that was digital or like any gaming systems but I randomly clicked on one of your videos and now I'm hooked, thanks man and keep it up
did you know Toyota used to be called Toyoda until the community thought that "Toyota" sounded better and the word Toyota took 8 strokes to wright in Japanese which is a lucky number in Japan.
Funny thing is many many years ago my uncle went to japan when this promotion was happening and he wanted to buy a car there. He did and had it sent back to Canada, and in the front seat was the Game Boy Toyota game boy pocket that he gave to me, haven’t seen it in years but knowing how rare it is made me go and look for it haha!
8:45 Bless you Ellie! Also great video, I see how expensive it is LMAO, I looked on eBay and it cost 3,500 USD! When I get older I wanna collect all Nintendo handhelds and they’re versions. It’s gonna be very pricey and difficult because there’s 2 Gameboy colors that have only 100 units made. I live Nintendo handhelds, and rn at the age of 13, I’m trying to get the least expensive handhelds with my allowance *Toyota*
Man watching these are so much fun. I miss my original Gameboy and gb lime green color. Plus my dslite which was stolen back in high-school. I should buy some used ones, clean them up and have my childhood back lol
"Not sponsored leave me alone" Love that haha, Also "Gonna use a cotton bud to clean button holes!!" (Uses toothbrush) =] Good video tho looks amazing now :D

[2 Hours Later] The father and son were driving a new Toyota, the son was playing on his new Gameboy Pocket, and was once again starting a brand new Pokemon Red playthrough. Toyota 😝 I’m glad I’ve found your channel, Elliott. You’ve helped me get back into my childhood games again and do some mods myself 😁 god bless you man, hope to see more stuff from you in the future! 🤙🏿🤙🏿
Toyota Motor Corporation is a Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer headquartered in Toyota, Aichi, Japan. It was founded by Kiichiro Toyoda and incorporated on August 28, 1937. Yes I watched the video, thank you for your entertainment.
Fun fact. This gameboy now costs more than the toyota it came with.
lol
Hahah probably! 😂
Unless it s was a Supra or AE86 🤷♂️
I'd argue it was more expensive than the Toyota at the time it was released. I mean the Toyota was included with the Gameboy, not the other way around. :P
Lightrust as long as it’s JDM, a used Toyota will not be cheap to the rest of the world
You said “without any further ado” twice in this video... So, obviously there was, indeed, further ado.
When does he say that?

It amazes me that Toyota got that partnership with Nintendo back in the day.

I wonder if the game boy raised the window sticker?

My Friends: Which one
Me: The Toyota-Nintendo Gameboy
Toyota... That sticker you put in the back says "Made in China", the original says "Made in Japan"... if I was you, I'd definitely leave the original.
Yeah! Go swap that old label back on!
Interesting cause most of the gameboy pockets were made in china, the last nintendo console that was made in japan was the n64
@@soulmourne2698 You do realize the n64 was released after the gameboy pocket.
@@palen2890 yep i know but its what happened the first n64 were made in japan and then they changed to china
good job it's not yours then.

Too bad it wasn’t a GB color....then it could be called the “Colorola”

I almost feel bad for ruining your 69 likes lol

Toyota, you're a legend at repairs. didn't think this would be possible!
Thank you!
Just open and cleaned my first gameboy project with the help of your videos! Thanks for all the hard work!

Almost bought a Toyota recently. I'm kind of pissed they didn't try to sweeten the deal with a Toyota Gameboy Pocket...
I wish companies would start doing this some more... Had the dealership tried to sweeten the deal with say a ps vita maybe I would've bought a more expensive model lol
Toyota- I don't normally see videos like so but just glad someone has appreciation and care for something made during my childhood
Toyota! Awesome restoration! You are giving peace to my OCD lol.
Hey! Thanks for watching :)
Why havent u uploaded in a while
Having a toyota gameboy is a harder flex than owning a toyota car, prove me wrong
Facts! haha
How about still owning both the game boy and the car it came with
Imagine if you imported a JDM Toyota Supra or MR2 and found one of these in the glovebox when it arrived.
It breaks my heart when people let their screens get so scratched.
Also, Toyota
'Hey son, what did you buy today?' 'A toyota' 'You bought a car?' 'No, a gameboy.'

Now you need to buy and restore the actual Toyota that came bundled with this GameBoy, just for the sake of completion ;)
I picked one of these up at a 2nd Street second hand store in a town near me for about 15 US dollars or 2000 yen. Works fine, is in pretty good condition. My wife was bewildered by how much they sell for.

I bought a ‘96 Toyota GameBoy Pocket
Can you imagine TOYOTA handing out Nintendo Switches with a new car? Seems like a totally different thing.
That’s pretty cool that there are Toyota branded Game Boy pockets out there, my family have been Toyota owners for decades now.
Fun fact. Instead of a serial number, it has an odometer on the back.
🚗 TOYOTA 🚗
It would have been funny if Nintendo had put a vin number as the serial number.

In Japan, this is very likely what happened. Japan has long been the giver of extras with its products as incentives and sometimes right generous too.
That’s the dream
They should make a switch or switch lite that’s clear and GameBoy themed maybe bundled with a remake of a classic GameBoy game something simple like Super Mario Land or Tennis or Alleyway just a cool little nostalgia trip.

Does anybody know how the Toyota partnership even happened?
See.. when two Japanese companys like each other very much, they create these ummm.....things.
Toyota dealerships in Japan also offered limited Sega Dreamcasts, which might be even rarer
