It's great to hear this song again. Ted and my husband Rick worked together in the Territory and my husband knew and spoke fondly of quite a number of the drinkers mentioned in this song. Thanks Ted - a double bundy to you!
Ted singing this song always cheers me up, he is such a good entertainer, I was very lucky, I was staying in The Alice for a couple of days about 25 years ago and I was introduced to Ted and his lovely Welsh wife, I joined them at their table. Back home now in Bournemouth UK, love your singing Ted, I first heard you singing on a Cassette being played when I was being driven by a guy called Lance Peach on a day trip to the Tablelands in Far North, I think he used to have the Tennants Creek Pub, I could be wrong though.
Now can anyone find grandma browns song...'Down on the Daly River'?.. I last heard this sung by Mal Letts, son of Gough Letts on a bus full of rugby players in the mid 80s??
I have a lot of respect for Ted... in so many ways... but this 'song'... isnt authentic... the chorus is... and I probably should be grateful. He is and was.... an authentic aussie.... but this song has lyrics post chorus... Ted missed them all... sad but true....cheers...
