Unbelievable that student id and younger people's railcards are excluded. I thought it was a joke, but looked it up on the government's website. Not there. Incredible.
Interesting fact: I wrote to Huw Merriman, my local MP and as it happens a Tory. I asked 1) How many national and local election results had been swung as a result of electoral fraud?, 2) What % of all votes cast are thought to be fraudulent? and c) Can he be 100% sure the ID requirements are equal to all voting groups? He replied within a day (credit where due and all that), ignored point three, said he'd have to ask colleagues about points 1&2 and would get back to me. He hasn't. He did manage to vote for these reforms however, seemingly happy to change decades old voting requirements without having any facts to hand.

I used to be a Polling Officer for Elections, stopped as I got older finding it too hard to work from 6am to 11pm or even later, most of that time not even being allowed a comfort break. Anyway what I was going to say was there are so many checks and balances in the current system voter fraud is very rare.
There was one conviction for it in the last election, of someone who used their mothers polling card because they lost theirs. Hardly criminal mastermind, election swinging level rigging as is implied.

All correspondence with the Council henceforth terminated for the protection of members of the Council,who are not required to know the truth about anything,or even care very much.

Let's look at this: All members of the Europaen Union have some form of national identity card, which can also be used instead of a passport inside the European Economic Area. Only the UK never had this, while they were a member of the EU. Labour wanted to introduce an identity card, but this was scrapped by the Tory gouverment. Now after, leaving the EU, having so much more national sovereignty, the Tory gouverment introduces now an indentity card through voting rights, as a back door? That's really taking back control...
I once had to get a written statement to confirm who I was, from an authoritative figure, to submit to the Open University (think it was for a loan for their courses). Of course I went to my local police station with photo ID in hand (passport, driver's licence and some utility bills). The police officer refused to sign anything because "ID is so easily faked that the police cannot accept any ID as real". That was shocking to me!

I work in a place where we occasionally have to check photo ID, which usually takes the form of a driving licence. The really odd thing is that when young people get their licence for the first time, it's often taken from a passport photo - which may be from several years ago. As a result, the photo on the licence may be that of a 13 year old child. I guarantee that this election will be full of reports of young folks being astonished/outraged and refused the chance to vote because they no longer look like their 13 year old self. Oh, and the addresses are occasionally out of date as well - which will be another issue that people won't get around to updating until it is too late. I'm just glad that I'm not a polling election clerk. Their job is suddenly going to become a lot more confrontational.
In Victoria at least Driver's License pictures are taken by the licensing authority at the time they are granted. But in the UK, I can just submit a photo of Fozzie the bear?? seems nuts to me.
Many places simply list "driving licence" as a form of ID. Then refuse mine for to lack of photo. Fun ensures as they try to h get out of their mistaken assumptions ALL "driving licences" are "photo driving licences"

You can apply online for a "voter authority certificate", which seems to just require basic info and a photograph. They might as well send all registered voters proof of ID at this rate.
So who gets to decide if you are the one in the photo ? Will there be an assessor at every polling station? What if that assessor says NO. Or Is this Face Recognition Database by the front door ?

They abolished automatic voter registration (which impacts renters, students, and the young - who coincidentally tend to vote Labour), and now this (which mostly impacts renters, the poor, and the young - who coincidentally tend to vote Labour). Also, let's not forget the boundary redrawing that would see almost 50 parliamentary seats (which weirdly seem to be mostly Labour ones) dissappear. I'm so glad we are being led by such a trustworthy government that has such a strong belief in democracy. I am sure there are absolutely no alternative motives behind all of these changes.

Um I'm now worried that I will need photo id to vote? I don't have a passport and I don't drive. I wasn't even allowed to take a maths exam because my passport had expired. I pointed out that it was still my photo and when I started to raise my voice in a middle aged lady way they backed down. 😐 But now I am really worried that I am meant to have photo ID! I can't even get to a post office with a form, as I say, I don't drive! 😱

I have to admit to voting in two different constituencies on the same day against Thatcher. My friend's vote would have been wasted. Made no difference.
Stopped voting decades ago when I realised what a total scam it is. Spent my time productively working for a social revolution ever since. Works out about the same in my wasted time but at least I feel like I am doing something constructive for the common good. I have ID but would refuse to show it on principal 😂
Interestingly enough, although you need to produce your birth certificate in order to obtain a passport or a bus pass, the certificates are not good enough to prove who you are. Surely, handing in the named poll card sent by the local authority which advises when and where a person on the register of electors may attend would have been the better system. It saves having to have a haircut, a perm, a tattoo disguise, a beard trim and/or to remember those gigantic out of date spectacles when you present yourself to the presiding officer.

Stopped voting decades ago when I realised what a total scam it is. Spent my time productively working for a social revolution ever since. Works out about the same in my wasted time but at least I feel like I am doing something constructive for the common good.

Interestingly enough, although you need to produce your birth certificate in order to obtain a passport or a bus pass, the certificates are not good enough to prove who you are. Surely, handing in the named poll card sent by the local authority which advises when and where a person on the register of electors may attend would have been the better system. It saves having to have a haircut, a perm, a tattoo disguise, a beard trim and/or to remember those gigantic out of date spectacles when you present yourself to the presiding officer.
