Funny that the alcohol, tobacco, and rental laws she mentioned don’t require government ID. She lied. You can sell both tobacco and alcohol to anyone you believe to be of age without ID. I can also rent to anyone without a government ID, but I can also require them to show me ID if I want.
@MACDRU421 Here, there are three acceptable forms of ID, and all of them are government-issued (driving licence, passport, and 18+ card). This applies to both alcohol and tobacco. The US is weird. The National Minimum Driviing Age Act (I hope I got that right) is part of the Federal Highway Code, but it doesn't *force* states to accept that limit, just twists their arms in a friendly way if they don't. It insist that the age of a purchaser *be* 21 or above but doesn't say how to *prove* it. States can and do set their own rules -- are you sure that the rules are not as she said in her own state? And of course vendors are allowed to set their own stricter rules. Apparently some places do not accept military IDs. S**ks to be a soldier. As I read the law, it has nothing to do with what you *believe* the purchaser's age to be, but only what it *is*. When I rented a place in California back in the 80s I had to show my passport, but that was then.
Precisely. Politicians want to be able to cheat to ensure they stay in power and if you step out of line in any way because they have taken your ability to vote them out away... if you try to take direct action against them you will be cut off from the system. @@zacharylambing5598 And what you are a Genius and also Rich. You Know here try this one for size Regulating voting hours Currently, counties with a population of 100,000 or more must provide at least 12 hours of early voting each weekday of the last week of early voting. In Texas, the early voting period usually runs for the two weeks ahead of Election Day. Hours for that last week of early voting are usually set for 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. SB 7 would lower that population threshold to 30,000 so more counties would be required to offer more early voting hours between the newly established window of 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. But the legislation also sets a 12-hour cap on how long early voting can run during that week, so polling places that stay open until 9 p.m. would have to open up later in the morning. This would directly preempt the expanded early voting hours offered in large, diverse counties last year. Harris County pioneered 24 hours of uninterrupted voting at a few polling places for one day. (Local election officials have indicated they hoped to keep the initiative for future elections.) Harris and other large counties like Bexar County, home to San Antonio, also kept their polling places open until 10 p.m. - three hours past the usual 7 p.m. closing time - for at least a few days last year. But wait there's more Banning drive-thru voting SB 7 also attempts to outlaw the sort of drive-thru voting offered by Harris County last year by requiring early voting to occur inside a building, as opposed to a “stationary structure,” as specified in current law. It also prohibits polling places from being located in a “tent or other temporary movable structure or a parking garage, parking lot, or similar facility designed primarily for motor vehicles.” Harris County first tested drive-thru voting in a summer 2020 primary runoff election with little controversy, but its use of 10 drive-thru polling places for the November general election came under Republican scrutiny. The county’s drive-thru polling places were mostly set up under large tents. Voters remained in their cars and showed a photo ID and verified their registration before casting ballots on portable voting machines. At the Toyota Center - home of the Houston Rockets - drive-thru voting was located in a garage. Republicans have argued the arrangements amounted to an illegal expansion of what is known as curbside voting, an option long available in Texas to accommodate people who are unable to enter a polling place without risking their health or without some form of personal assistance. Under this method of voting, posted signs at polling sites typically notify voters to ring a bell, call a number or honk to request curbside assistance. The county argued its drive-thru locations were separate polling places, distinct from attached curbside spots, and therefore were available to all voters. Keith Ingram, the chief of elections for the state, had said in an unrelated court hearing that drive-thru voting is “a creative approach that is probably OK legally.” Drive-thru voting proved popular in Harris County, with 1 in 10 in-person early voters casting their ballots at drive-thru locations. A conservative activist and three Republican candidates sued over the process, but were unsuccessful in convincing a federal judge to throw out those nearly 127,000 votes. The litigation at the time did lead to the voluntary shutdown of nine of the 10 drive-thru locations for Election Day, for which voting is already required to occur inside a building. OK if you actually read this how many Votes were they trying invalidate? Hmm

This is intriguing and sad to see, as someone from a developing country. We produce our IDs at the voting centre for verification process (1st step). Then fingerprints check as the 2nd step before being 'checked in' and receiving the ballot papers to vote and place in appropriate ballot bins afterwards.
The problem with requiring IDs to vote is that IDs are a mechanism that helps to prevent voter fraud. Detractors will lie by saying that signatures are being checked for every vote thus making IDs redundant; however, many ballots are counted that don't have any signatures at all. If we are to have actual elections, this redundancy is necessary. Without IDs, our current election system is as broken as Uganda's.
most other countries do it, funny enough I even read recently that if the person is financially unable to get an ID some states will provide it free lol...so its quite obvious that the arguments made against these requirements are definitely coming from a place of ill-intent. most (damn near all) countries also don't even use mail-in ballots as many outright reject it for the sole reason it 'encourages' fraud...your entire system, if viewed objectively, is set up to facilitate fraudulent activity on a large scale...its a dumpsterfire

Regulating voting hours
Currently, counties with a population of 100,000 or more must provide at least 12 hours of early voting each weekday of the last week of early voting.
But wait there's more
Banning drive-thru voting
SB 7 also attempts to outlaw the sort of drive-thru voting offered by Harris County last year by requiring early voting to occur inside a building, as opposed to a “stationary structure,” as specified in current law. It also prohibits polling places from being located in a “tent or other temporary movable structure or a parking garage, parking lot, or similar facility designed primarily for motor vehicles.”
Harris County first tested drive-thru voting in a summer 2020 primary runoff election with little controversy, but its use of 10 drive-thru polling places for the November general election came under Republican scrutiny.
Keith Ingram, the chief of elections for the state, had said in an unrelated court hearing that drive-thru voting is “a creative approach that is probably OK legally.”
Drive-thru voting proved popular in Harris County, with 1 in 10 in-person early voters casting their ballots at drive-thru locations.

We produce our IDs at the voting centre for verification process (1st step). Then fingerprints check as the 2nd step before being 'checked in' and receiving the ballot papers to vote and place in appropriate ballot bins afterwards.
You need an ID to do everything else in the country so why not have id's to vote?
It's the verification that's the issue.
Because then there is proof positive ways to verify (eh hem) 80+ million votes 🤣😥
