At no point in the video did I have any idea what you were making, but I was entertained the whole time. Nice pretty bowl of chocolate pudding you have there.
Initially the same until the end of the video. The engraving of that tiny plate at the end was the reason for the brass/chocolate creation. If you want to engrave something, you secure it in the brown stuff. The bowl can be adjusted for angle etc.and is so heavy it won't move/shift while doing it.
i realize this is a payed add for the Vevor set up and i hope your keep perusing Chasing and Engraving but you might want to think about adding a ring of felt or leather to the inner lip of the stand so that there is something for the blow to bite into this will make it more stable and stop it from creeping out of position Metal on metal is relatively slick (over all your have made a beautiful lifelong tool)
just fill it with sand ... the sand will absorb any vibrations and give that solid thunk sound ... still amazing for a pitch bowl it will last forever now just needs some engraving on the lower stand :)
@@TheRavnKnight yeah i know but loose sand in the base would not help with the grip as he wants it to rest on the rim and i don't even use sand bags in my shop if i use anything like that i have bags filled with steel shot
Hi BB. To make a perfect fit between the bowl and the base, the idea of using the bowl as template for the sanding paper is right. But you should do the contrary too. I work with marble and once I made a rolling ball fountain. To achieve the perfect match between ball and base I used quartz sand with water and rolled the ball until there were no flat spots on both contact surfaces. It's a long process but really effective.
Techniques to make techniques to make techniques. With a product at the end which represents one of the oldest techniques in artistry as the outcome. Wicked stuff man. Thanks so much
Great job! Now you have a new tool. By the way, engraving is really an interesting topic. I got a few burning for engraving non-ferrous metal a long time ago and I will say, it's very exciting!
Honestly, it looks and melts like hard grade Monster Clay. Never thought of using monster clay as a stabilizing base for detail work, but I think it might work almost as well as this pitch stuff.
I raised a bowl over a stake little smaller than that out of copper sheet for this exact purpose. I have been wanting to get some red pitch to fill it. It’s quite expensive stuff.
Next time you cast you should think about a riser vent. Gives a place for the air and gas to go and gives 2 reservoirs of molten metal for the initial shrink before it solidifies. Very interesting project. I have a friend from decades ago named Jim Downing in Springfield Missouri. He is a legend when it comes to engraving. And he made a very nice life for himself. I believe he is still working but I doubt for much longer.
Really noce project. I just made a pich bowl. Way less good looking than yours though, the bronze cast is good looking. I can‘t cast in my shop. I bought a hollow steel hemisphere, filled it half way with lead and then with pitch, weighs 12 kg. I made the pitch following Ford Hallams recipe/video. Both thumbs up.
What's crazy is that's probably close to $300 worth of Pitch in that bowl right there, bc just one of those small little loaf pans of Pitch is around $150. Which is absolutely ridiculous!! But it looks good though hope to see this getting used in an upcoming video. 👍👍
I was watching this new series on Netflix called Rise of Empires, and the guy portraying the Romanian King Vlad Tepes looked very familiar. Then I realized he looks like you :)
I like the bowl and base very much. And I am entranced by hand engraved metal but what is the point of such small work that needs optical magnification to create. Does it not also then need magnification to see it? Cant carry that magnifier around with you.
The pitch when cool is actually fairly brittle which is why he melted it with the torch to mount the engraving piece. The force required to do the engraving is quite low when spread out over the entire piece so there is little risk of shattering the pitch behind it during the engraving process.
I've seen woodworking, melting, and tool making. But I've not seen all three in one video, and it's amazing!
This video deserves more thumbs up.
At no point in the video did I have any idea what you were making, but I was entertained the whole time. Nice pretty bowl of chocolate pudding you have there.
Haha same!

Sick name
???? How did you not know what he is making when it says so in the video title and you clicked on it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
First time seeing your beautiful old belt-driven lathe. That thing is amazing.
4:14 that's what I was waiting for. I might have to take up casting to make my own bells

@@TheRavnKnight just my op but if i can keep sand away from my pitch i do
@@wmose3694 oh i was talking about the base filled with sand ... not the pitch ... should have explained my thoughts a bit better ... my bad

The bowl has a beautiful voice. Nicely done.
Just a super great thing you did! Just all kinds of 'Whaaaat?'. You sure did make that. Wow.
You are an absolut Spectacular Handworker.
Your Workshop is incredible and the Quality of your Projekts phänomenal.
Весь ролик смотрел, думал - молодец, мини казанок делает. А оно во как получилось, тиски-липучка!! 🤣
Серьезная салатница! ) Вечная! )
Even that it is not needed it would be nice to see how this apparatus looks like in total shine polish. I bet it would be amazing looking. Good work 😊

Do you have a video showing that cause that sounds very interesting?
@fnafplayer6447 Nope. I did it somewhat 15 years ago, a hell of a job and I promised myself, never again. 😉
You're always trying new things!
It's such a pleasure to see working in this way!

Awesome build

Really beautiful pour casting those!
I have always wondered about these. Now I know. Thank you my friend. Love your work. I subscribed today.
pitch looks like melted chocolate
I thought it was :)
Chocolate anvil
i thought the same thing lol 🤣🤣
I’m pretty sure that it doesn’t taste like chocolate.

Nice bowl, sir, delicious chocolate wow Amazing thanks for sharing the video. Sir, good work
That is such a clever tool, love it.
From the thumbnail, I thought this was the most epic cheesecake ever!
Phenomenal work as always, Sir, and what a mix of skills in this video! Fantastic. Thanks for sharing your work.
The sound of the ringing bowl was a pleasant surprise.
I wasn't expecting huge Toffifee.
I raised a bowl over a stake little smaller than that out of copper sheet for this exact purpose. I have been wanting to get some red pitch to fill it. It’s quite expensive stuff.
Great idea mate! Now the engraving works can be super professional for small parts. 🙏💫
Beautifully done good job well done
Thank you! I always learn great things from you.
You really are great at your trade.

Progetto veramente figo e utile per noi knifemaker!🌋
Thats some eye hand skill there
Love watching your videos! 😄
One day you'll do a volcano on the pouring side of the sand, and cease spilling it everywhere 🙂
Great job anyway.
It is amazing what and how you create things, untold talent.always a new experience.just carry on and keep creating.kudos.👍👍👍😎😎😎

Amazing, but now I know where all the streets doornobs and knockers went :))
Darn you.. ;p
I have been want to do this but have not yet had time. It looks wonderful. Now I know I MUST make one for myself.
From nothing to perfection
I always watch with great interest. Thanks
Nice job👌
...LOOKIN' GOOD, NICE WORK, KEEP WELL..
Very cool ❤
Uri Tuchman would like this!
Well that’s 13 minutes 49 seconds I’ll never get back 😂😂👍🏻
Wait, did I miss something? When did Blackbeard make a microscope? I missed that episode.
Very nice. I wondered what those Vevor scopes were like.
What benefit comes from the deep bowl of pitch? When I've seen it before it's always used in a shallow pan.
yeah i dont get it either? whats the purpose of a huge bowl of pitch?
If you're doing repousse work it can come in handy.
Every bit of weight helps
no vabbè: ma che figata!
Very nice.
Why should you buy this stuff, If you just can build it by your self? Lobe it!!!❤️
learned something new today
was wondering wtf you were making lol 😁👍
Very entertaining
IDK why but you looked funny engraving with the microscope.
I was watching this new series on Netflix called Rise of Empires, and the guy portraying the Romanian King Vlad Tepes looked very familiar. Then I realized he looks like you :)
you`re great, l wish you good health .
Aaahhhhh that's what it's for.
Enjoyed that.👍
Je ne sais pas du tout ce que c'est mais jolie travail !
awesome video, what was the red stuff in the bowl.
Nice
Nice!
Perfect video.
Great job! What is the name of this sand?
For a moment I thought that I was watching a food channel making a cake heheheeh

I did not read the title of the video, so I had no clue on where you were going with this one xD
lol you made a giant toffifee
What brand is your polishing lathe?
Where did you get your chisels and hammer from?
So it helps with engraving.
I only know about that pitch drop that took 3 years to fall, like slow moving liquid.
The red pitch made me think of chocolate cake... now I'm hungry for dessert XD
👍👍😊😊
It was awesome..! But...why not to buy a vice ..?!
Giant toffifee
Hello, I'm from Brazil, what kind of mass is this that you fixed to the plate to make the engraving?
Lacre/pitch
Any problems with zinc fumes when melting brass?
Now you can bomp and whomp stuff.
Я думал, что это миска для кота)))
Mmmmm forbidden chocolate
It’s the pitch a non Newtonian fluid? So when you strike the object to be engraved it feels hard as well as holding it firmly.
The pitch when cool is actually fairly brittle which is why he melted it with the torch to mount the engraving piece. The force required to do the engraving is quite low when spread out over the entire piece so there is little risk of shattering the pitch behind it during the engraving process.
👍👍👍
😁
Looks like hot chocolate. Dayum
I..... don't get it??!? 🤔🤨
