Yes, Grimace was originally a villainous character at McDonald's: Evil Grimace When he was first introduced in 1971, Grimace was a scaly, mean-looking character with four arms who stole milkshakes from customers. He was similar to the Hamburglar, who stole hamburgers. McDonald's said that Grimace was "nightmare fuel for children" and that kids were running away from their restaurants. Reintroduction In 1972, Grimace was reintroduced as a softer, more lovable character with two arms who enjoyed milkshakes and hanging out with Ronald. Taste bud In 2021, a McDonald's manager in Canada said that Grimace is "an enormous taste bud, but a taste bud nonetheless".
i genuinely mean this as a compliment, Barry Lewis seems like one of those people you see on a sky channel as a kid really late at night and spend hours looking for in the morning, it's a very underrated channel for the amount of effort, comforting casual talk and professionalism put into each video, you definitely deserve more subs and likes
That steamer basket you have doesn’t need to have the lid cocked. The weave on the lid is loose enough to let excess steam out while keeping most of the moist heat in.
The absolute definition of chaotic evil is Barry sticking the milky coffee skewer repeatedly back into the purple food dye! My offspring is laughing at my horrified reaction and yelling at the tv
Your child-like enthusiasm is utterly infectious. 😂 We definitely need a super-sized version with a huge bun and massive fries. 😊 You could use a blueberry coffee syrup and see what that tastes like. 😊
13:49 That is a 1980's Big Mack, not a 2024 Big Mack heheheh. Looks great. If Maccas would still serve them that size I might still be visiting them once in a while. Alas, that size disappeared like 20 years ago.
Still scratching my head over why you didn't use the sweet potato powder in the fries, think the colour may have been better, but loved the difference in the steamed buns.😁
Honestly, since becoming an adult and knowing how to cook, McDonald's foods turn my stomach because it's used to home cooked meals, not fast food anymore. But I never saw this meal promotion, and I would honestly try it if I had the chance. I'm not making it, tho so thank you for this video 😂
When I was a kid, I experience the very end of "McDonald Land" Mid 80s to early 90s, I remember the playgrounds and character design of the restaurant. Being designed by the designers of HR puffand stuff, it makes since. If some kid got a McDonald's bday party, they were very popular...it's because of McDonald land. We didn't eat out all the time, we couldn't. But eating at McDonald's was awesome, the characters had been stuck on everything. Even the toys, made my childhood. Getting a cool toy, was like Christmas. Times have changed, it's kinda sad.
Splendid job Barry! This looks like it should be an actual McDonald's item. Now I'm craving some late night fast food haha. If you can find some, try ube next time for your purple food and drink experiments :)
Well done, mate. That Big Mac actually looks way better than the tiny ones we get over here from McD's, with their ever-shrinking, wafer thin patties. Can't speak for other McD's in other parts of the world, but the Big Macs are a disgrace here in Singapore.
Big Mac sauce : mayo, ketchup, mustard and sweet pickle relish. This is also called thousand island dressing . McDonalds does add more vinegar and mustard than thousand island dressing. When i make it its thus : 1 cup mayo, 1/2 cup ketchup, 14 cup mustard. 1/2 teaspoon garlic and onion powder. 1/2 cup sweet relish , extra mustard and vinegar if you want.
That looks amazing. I remember my home economics teacher made different coloured foods and one was a raw steak that she had marinated in green food colouring then when she cooked it we all had to try a piece to eat and although it smelt lovely the look of it was like off meat and it was so difficult to even try to eat it.
Barry I say this as a long standing fan, it’s time to get into the Garden Kitchen I remember you posted months (if not a year ago) about how the kitchen in the house was getting you down and interfering with your family life during the school holidays. I know you’re not happy 100% with the lighting etc but the reasons you wanted the shed are the same, perfection is the enemy of good and comparison is the thief of joy. The garden shed can’t have been an insignificant investment and it’s time to get the benefit of it. Only once you start using the kitchen regularly will you know what genuine issues are and what you’re blowing out of proportion. One of your biggest fans.
If you do a steaming video, you should do steamed eggs! I did them recently and it was so good. I did the traditional soy, sesame, and chili oil and my mum just had cheese on top. Both were great!
Purple potatoes or purple sweet potatoes would have been easier than the dying/shaping process for the fries. The sweet potatoes would taste different though.
Really nice job on this cook! You kept the video pithy, but it’s clear you did an additional ton of work off camera to get all the components to where they needed to be. Really enjoyed the video and the end product. Keep up the great work.
I wish you had some Mac sabbath playing in the background. Their music and videos are hilarious. Enjoyed this video, but i really loved the clear McDonald's meal
You could always extrude your mash through a Play-Doh™ 'Fun Factory'™ a new clean one, of course. Purple and Mauve are two colours that I really dislike - if I was in a car, as a child, the sight of a purple vehicle (which, in the 1970's, wasn't uncommon), would often be enough to induce a bout of travel sickness. Doesn't happen now, but purple food that isn't fruit does not make me feel hungry. 😆😆😆
Barry, I'm an American, but I wanted to say just how much I enjoy your videos. I love your personality, and you seem like a genuinely great guy. By the way, I love the Commando phone case!

Not really. I think they're available, and fancy restaurants use them, but you'd have to buy them online or go to a very fancy shop. I don't think even Waitrose (the poshest of the nationwide supermarkets) sells them.
I want a blueberry latte now. And fries. I'm hungry. 😂 thank you for making these and for the steaming idea. I'll have to do that when I make buns from scratch.
