My first "survival" knife as a kid was a carbon steel chefs knife I picked up at a flea market for like $2, I beat that thing to hell and back for years until I got a buck sheath knife. I still have that old chefs knife and I would happily trust my life to it.
Got this knife a few weeks ago. I like the simplicity which shows that effective knives will always follow time tested shapes. Often, "combat knives" which were designed for _that_ task are overdesigned and simply bad to handle... AFAIK, the reason of these butcher knives being used in WW1 (especially by the french) was, that the military didn't have enough knives in stock for every soldier - so they simply issued the knives they could get from cutleries, makers and so on. In addition to that, CQC-weapons in WW1 were often improvised from every-day-gadgets.
It is probably closer to the first bowie knife that was used in the infamous sand bar fight than most other knives sold as Bowie knives. In other words the long, straight single edged butcher knife as described by Rezin Bowie in a letter and one of Bowie's female relatives in a separate letter.
Great channel!! Revisited this now in 2024 from when I first saw it maybe nine yrs ago. My emotional pref, puppy love is for the big knives and machetes, and when I first saw ur machete collection I was inspired. Kukris' also a fav, Nepal makes great low cost blades, big ones, always a bargain. I make leather sheaths, mostly for machetes. Hobby. My attitude is for economy knives, always shop price driven, and machetes give a lot for a little money. Cheaper is more, or less is more. Saw machetes from ur chnl ten yrs ago, great education vids for newbies, starting the journey.
I love machetes as well, very popular in the Philippines. They open coconuts with them at the market place, and no one runs screaming like they would in the US LOL.
I like this one a lot - might put it on the list. One thing that worries me a little. 1095 is a high carbon steel and designed exactly for the abuse you put it through. For the fact it dulled so quickly makes me worry about the quality of the heat treatment. HRC: 55 - 57 with 1095 should hold an edge much longer than a short chopping session. Perhaps with a scandi grind it would have held up better with the bushcraft tasks - but again if you want the meat cutting slice - you can't have it both ways. Food for thought.
Yeah it is not hardened as much as most 1095 knives would be. They must have wanted it to be really easy to resharpen in the field. It's more like a small machete.
I got one because I loved the design and it handled pretty well. Sadly the heat treatment was so bad, the tip would constantly bend and it couldn't hold an edge for very long... so I sold it.
Ever have a knife that just speaks to you, where you see it and think that's one gorgeous knife? Well that one there does for me, don't know exactly why but it's the best looking knife I've ever seen (and I've got 130 in my own collection, let alone all knives I've ever laid eyes on). Yeah I've gotta get one of those.
A chef/butcher/fighting knife that can double up as a bushcraft knife- Nice! I know there's a lot of videos out already on this particular knife, but I would be interested in hearing your take on the Joker Nomad 6.5 from Joker Knives from Spain.
Like a few people here have said the heat treat on these are bad. I got mine today and was able to put a bend in it over my knee then bend it back straight. Definately sending it back
Sadly 4 me a DAV-Knife Addict so many blades that I covet but will never aquire. My lifetime Favorite was a Bob Ek Aussie Commando ! I left it w/my replacement oversea's. Sure appreciate urv fine video's TY
opp's longtime not mentioned proper title 4 it was Ek Aussie Bowie not commando although some called them that?? & recently had chance to git a Rambo blade was $5. short & No flex fm seller while tryN 2 Negoiate deal nother guy leaned over w/a $100. bill & got it was quite the knife
Assuming you don't want an actual chefs or butcher knife, check out the Slockmaster by Cold Steel. I've got a couple, and it's super useful in camp or the kitchen.
I actually bought a very inexpensive chef knife last May and have been using it since then, this is what I use in the kitchen: Tiger Chef Knife: s71.co/42civEq
i would actually be a monster with that in the kitchen and i could see fighting with it also lol. i usually like to keep them separated. the sheath is badass. really makes me feel dumb when i buy a knife i use ALL the time for 15 bucks vs a knife i like for $100 or more and be like OH ID NEVER DO THAT. i remember using a double edge microtech to cut salad at work for childrens miracle network and i was like....this is weird
My sheath sucks. Blade falls out. My guess is it’s defective and not representative of the companies overall quality. I’ll have to reheat and attempt to remold for a secure fit. Knife itself is absolutely badass. I also own the Station 9 “Creve Coeur” which I’m very satisfied with.
Tony lopes design french knives makers ;yes during the First World War French soldiers received folding knives and butcher knives, to compensate for the absence of combat knives and some modified them !and this is why this cutler created this knife; in memory of these men who fought hand to hand in the blood and mud of the trenches!

Showing The Partisan Knife by Station IX Knives. 1095HC steel, 7.8 inch blade length, 4mm thick, brown polished Micarta scales.
Ok I got a crazy knife that if you could find an review I would be great full! It’s the leatherman steens s30v an absolute beauty of a hunter.

Reminds me of a trade knife that longhunters of the 18th century carried. I like it.
I was thinking the same. The main difference is that trade knives were made of thinner stock.
Green River knives?

Its been a while since i watched your videos. Im happy to see you still make them. You tought me so much about what to look for in a good knife!❤
Excellent, it seems YT has been circulating them more, perhaps their system likes this type of thumbnail.
Og still doing the damn thing. Thank you for your years of hard work
Thanks, my friend!

Nice video as always. Seems like a very good knife. Thanks for showing. Cheers from Norway 😃
I got one because I loved the design and it handled pretty well. Sadly the heat treatment was so bad, the tip would constantly bend and it couldn't hold an edge for very long... so I sold it.
And the sheath wasn't bad but the faux leather wasn't good for my use.
Yeah I noticed that batoing dulled mine quickly, I'm mainly going to reserve this for meat or bad guys. At least it was super fast to re-sharpen.
Aye, thanks for the honest review. Was wondering how the edge held up after chopping through that wood. It looked pretty sturdy.
World war 1 was extremely violent. And this knife design is 49% of the reasons why lol

Yeah they made it soft, had to resharpen mine after batoning, it's more like a machete.
the long swedge on the back lightens the blade in the same way as a fuller does
Damn near perfect design for that size knife.
Very nice knife, I'd be more interested if it was something like VG10 though,
(just for the kitchen aspect),, great blade shape tho',,
Cheers, John
I might have a few folding kitchen knives coming up in VG10, I remember I had an old Ginsu bowie in VG10!
I love these profiles. My favorite current knife is the offgrid grizzly chef .
I've had my eye on that one for a while now!
I've been digging all the clips filmed river side. Was that a turtle shell bowl?!? Badass
Glad you are enjoying! The bowls are old school Porcelain.
Loving this one!
Very Cool knife Sir, how's the edge retention? Is it comparable to the tops knives 1095 high carbon steel?
This has worse edge retention, as the steel is softer, more like a machete.
@@WeAllJuggleKnives thank you for the reply Sir. Stay safe and healthy 👍
That looks like a modern French trade knife. Love it!
Another good video in your style and a pretty interesting knife as well!

I'm glad you're enjoying the vids! I am sure we all lust for some knives that not in the ol' budget :D
Looking to replace a chef/butcher knife. Would this be your first choice or could you give a recommendation for one in or below this price? Thanks!

got one yesterday . verry happy,
Nice 👍. I really like the look of this knife.
Your cool just based on how you put up all the link's, I appreciate it
Thanks, my friend, I hope they are helpful to you :D
I love it, my scalping knife!
Cool knife i like it to 1095 1080 and 5160 spring steel are my favorites

i didnt see a muscle flash in thias video cuz i know youtube demonetized gun content! boom boom! i know you got them thangz big dawg!
Is it a better slicer than the crkt shinbu?
Not THAT good :]
In Freedom units: 0.1574803 compared the incorrect metric system.
What did/do you use to sharpen the knife and did you sharpen it shortly before cutting the cardboard, seat belt etc.
I used a Spyderco Sharpmaker with ceramic rods. I sharpened it after my first batoning with it, so yes the food and other things cut were after.
Pretty cool!
Sweet
Looks like a keeper
Will it perform adequately in WW3?
Definitely, I think WWII will be a close up affair :D
"what's up UA-cam mother lovers"
WAIT WRONG CHANNEL
Becker had a trailing point knife Almost the same shape and 1095. In two sizes
Ka-Bar BK-5 yes, that was an awesome knife, too bad they discontinued it, I still have mine.
@@WeAllJuggleKnives I have 2 of them
Bit more than I wanna pay, but looks nice. Can get the job done in the kitchen...or in the back alley behind it.
Awesome blade, too bad they doesnt ship to canada

Pretty much the same style blade that you’d find with the Ka-Bar modified tanto.
William the Bucher Cutting esqu.
Looks like the Condor Skirmish.
I'm totally getting this on payday.
I tried to find that knife last night funny enough, the amazon link was dead from your Christmas video.
They sold out from Amazon, but can still be ordered directly from the Station IX website.
I just saw it on Amazon for $457 dollars. Wtf.
@@kennethkrieb3018 - I believe that seller is a scammer, they have 10,000 listings, but I doubt they have any of the items they have listed.
I don't want to sound rude, but are you sure this is not a camp chef knife instead of a combat/fighting one?

Why do we call concave grind a hollow grind, but we call a convex a convex??
That's my kind of butcher knife.
How about a folding knife that can not be broken or bent by bending it sideways with hand strength !
What about a Cold Steel SR1 Folder? I haven't tried it, but it looks strong.
Very similar to the tops knives prather war bowie
Bit on the pricey side, for what it is. But it is a nice looking knife. Big small for my tastes ;)
Its a kitchen knife 100%.
they used to all be hand forged so you got a thicker spine back then than you do now.
I like it. 😁
What a great knife. Wish it hadn’t those cheesy false edges. Just personal preference.
I think they wanted to make it more stabby
Stabby stabby ☺️
For sure!
Barbecue lets go😂

My station ix knife has the worst heat treat ive ever seen. May be mild steel to be honest.
It's definitely soft, not sure if they intended that. Had to resharpen mine after batoning, but it sharpened very easily.
And all ridiculousness 😂😂😂
Thank you.
My pleasure!
