I'm having a problem with mine, exact same mower, where it seems my engagement pulley for the blades isn't moving far enough to tension the belt I'm taking the deck off in hopes of finding a problem, thanks for the video!

There's a grommet on the cable that attaches at a bracket near the back of the deck, if I remember correctly.

Can you put a John deer 42 in on a craftsman

Don't know, never messed with a John Deere. I'm guessing there would be quite a few differences that would make it difficult.
