    Another killer video. Finally a guy who's not afraid to go against the grain in the physical media arena and speak his mind. The Incredible Hulk, the first Iron Man, and the Winter Soldier was Marvel's peak. After that, they went woke.

      @@TheOriginalFuzz I love the longer videos. Since having a YT channel, I've noticed my videos are longer than what I originally expected. Perfect example is my newest video, Dolby Atmos movies on 4k & Bluray. 🤣
      For me, I look at it from two perspectives, the viewer and now the content creator...
      As a viewer, I personally like when the creator goes into depth about A, B and C. At the end, I feel like I the viewer am getting to know the creator a little bit more than a straightforward/traditional video.
      Now as a content creator, I want the viewers to get to know me, especially since I'm so new to YT. In my videos, I've caught myself talking about my family, and my childhood more than what I would've expected. I think a lot of us have many things in common besides our love for physical media, and that's what I try to bring, at least that's what I'm hoping for...... And of course spreading my love for the horror genre 🤣🤣
      Keep it up, Fuzz! You're the best!

      @@Franksmediaandreviews Yeah I agree with all of that. Personally, I prefer watching longer videos myself. I like to be able to put a video on and not have to change it for a while LOL! And my videos also always end up being longer than I anticipate. I'll write out a script for an entire video (minus the list portion of the video), and it almost always ends up being at least 10 minutes longer than I think it's going to be. Even with this current video, the script I wrote was pretty massive, so I assumed it was going to be a little longer. But I never expected it to go past about 40-45 minutes. And sure enough, it ended up being 55 minutes LOL!
      Thanks so much for the kind words man!
      BTW, I got my Turbine stuff the other day and just watched Renfield for the first time. Great movie! I had a lot of fun with it. I ended up liking Nicholas Hoult more than I thought I would (I think prior to this, I've only ever seen him in The Menu). He was great in this. In fact, I think I liked Hoult more than Cage in this one, which is saying something, because I usually dig Cage's work.

    I heard Universal at the time and maybe still own partial rights to the Hulk, so Marvel would have to work with them to make a full Hulk movie

  • @AReed030188
    @AReed030188 4 місяці тому +1

    The Hulk felt like a side character for so long because Disney/Marvel didn't hold the rights to the character until maybe last year. If they made a direct sequel after the MCU gained momentum Universal would have to play in Feigie's world and likely foot the bill while Universal collects the profits. It took them until 2016 to negotiate a deal to use Spiderman from Sony, and you can clearly see why Sony rented him out because the rest of the Sony Spidy-verse is middling to terrible (Morbius and Madame Web). Sony takes little risk in that deal and rakes in the cash.

    I think Spiderman 1 (2002, Tobey Maguire) was a cult movie in superhero genre. It set the trend which unfortunately other superhero stories that followed up couldn't matchup the level (except for Iron Man 1 and Batman the Dark Knight). The compelling story telling in spiderman 1 was its key to success. Not to mention Willem Dafoe, my all time favorite thespian).
    Here're some keys to a successful movie: 1. A story that is worth to be told 2. A good story teller (director) 3. A Cast that is lovable and interesting and their capability and commitment to hold the story up from start to finish.
    Most of the casts these days lack in their role credibility, detached, withdrawn, uninvolved and way too much improvisation in acting in an effort to make it look realistic than needed.
    And please spare us from those rotten 'modern' sense of humor/comedy, it dilutes everything.

    We didn't more Hulk because of the rights issues. When Marvel went bankrupt in the 90s. The film rights to Hulk were sold to Universal & Marvel could only use him in The Avengers because he was part of the original group. If they did another solo film, they would have to share the profits. The rights have since reverted back to Marvel. A new Hulk solo film is being planned.

    Great video Buzz! For me, something is not as special if it's in abundance and that's how comic book movies have been ruined for me. I quit them all years ago. There is no such thing as just telling a good story anymore. It has to drag out into other movies and shows. Big business media has turned everything into a never ending soap opera that has no closure to the story.

    Great discussion! I agree with the burnout. That's why I haven't seen any new Marvel for a while. Then Disney taking over just made it worse. I am so sick of hearing about Marvel and Star Wars! DC I think just wanted some of that action and tried flooding the market. I really enjoyed the Zack Snyder movies. Lately, I did get Black Adam on 4k. I know many have shit on that movie, but I really enjoyed it and think Dwayne Johnson fit that role. Of course, I go into those movies unbiased, as I do not read comics and know nothing about the characters. I go into them with an open mind and try to enjoy them. I agree about Batman Begins and Dark Knight. They would be near the top of my list as well.

    I think if Marvel was smart, they would either end the Mcu and start fresh or do what Dc is doing by having a universe and unconnected films run at the same time. We could have movies set in the Mcu but also Marvel movies like the Raimi trilogy thats unconnected to the Mcu. That way its more fresh and we can give directors more room to try new things.

      @TheOriginalFuzz  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for watching and weighing in! Agreed, it would be nice to see a little more variety in filmmaking. We need to get back to making smaller or mid-size budget films with good writing, characters and stories. The big budgets have really gotten out of hand... hundreds of millions of dollars to produce mediocre crap (at best). And everything is either a big franchise or reboot of existing IP, etc. We need creative ideas and fresh stories that are not tied to the big tentpole draws.

    Where is the love for Guillermo Del Toro's Hellboy and Hellboy 2? Ang Lee's Hulk? And would you consider Dredd (2012) a superhero movie?

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  6 місяців тому

      Well I did talk about Ang Lee's Hulk in my last video (here: ua-cam.com/video/RJoxvXQ7sJs/v-deo.html -- first honorable mention), so that's a big part of why I left it out of this particular list (plus I just like Norton in the role more than Eric Bana). But I do think Ang Lee's Hulk is pretty damn good. Very artsy and creative. As for Hellboy... it's not bad. I don't dislike it. I have the first one on 4K... still need to pick-up the 2nd one (I've never seen the second one). But overall, I'm not really that attached to what I've seen of Hellboy. Part of it may have something to do with me not being a big Ron Perlman fan. I'm also only luke-warm on Dredd (another one I own on 4K, but I'm not super attached to. But it's possible I just need to give it another watch. I've only seen it once, and it was years ago).

    I can't hate on your list because it's your list and your opinion. I appreciate the time and care that went into this video. But having said that, I don't know how after all you said here in this video you could not put Watchmen The Ultimate Cut on your list. At least at the end as an honorable mention like you did with some other films. In my opinion it's better than the other Snyder superhero films you have on your list. That Dr Manhattan origin scene alone blows away so many other things you mentioned.

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  6 місяців тому

      I do have Watchman on blu-ray (I have the extended director's cut, but not the Ultimate cut. Doesn't the ultimate cut just have some comic inserts or something?). It's been a long time since I've watched it though, but I do remember thinking it was a good film, and I've always had a lot of respect for what Snyder did there. So that's a very good point... I probably should've included that in the honorables.

    Hey Fuzz. This might possibly be your best video to date. I needed time to absorb all your thoughts and info on the genre. I can't disagree. Marvel really hurt themselves with how they ended Endgame. The Avenger Movies were my favorite of all the Marvel movies. I did enjoy the Incredible Hulk and agree 100% with your thoughts on Edward Norton. When you have someone like him in your franchise. Make it work. I was a little surprised there was no mention of Logan. I also enjoyed The Wolverine. With that said, I am also a DC fan. As I think you know, The Dark Knight Trilogy is my favorite. The Dark Knight would have been my number one pick. I agree with all your reasons you picked Batman Begins, but the difference maker for me was actually Maggie Gyllenhaal. She was far better as Rachel, then Katie Holmes. There was also another great trilogy that happened during the time you took a break from superheroes, and that was Wesley Snipes Blade. Awesome R rated Marvel movies. Again written by David S. Goyer. That Trilogy also gave us a sneak peak at what Ryan Reynolds would later bring to the MCU. Maybe he will be the Marvel Messiah. Lol. However, Blade Trinity was a massive disappointment, but Blade and Blade 2 are awesome, awesome movies. I was also a big fan of the original live action Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles. Lol. Shredder will always be one of my favorite comic book villains. Lastly I wanted to touch on The Batman. I enjoyed that movie more then I expected and I really hope we get that sequel, because I am excited to see what Barry Keoghan does with the Joker ever since that leaked UA-cam short we got shortly after the release of The Batman. Thanks for taking the time to create this video. It was fun to watch.

      Oh thank you so much Dwayne! You know, I was feeling pretty good about this video myself (relative to my others), and was wondering how it would be perceived. I felt like I was able to let a little bit more of my natural personality come through on this (which I always try to convey, but sometimes the more "performative" aspects of making a video tend to creep in Lol!).
      So, re: The Dark Knight, I couldn't agree with you more about Maggie Gyllenhaal. She's pretty fantastic, and definitely far better suited to the role than Katie Holmes was. If anything, Katie Holmes was one of the weaker aspects of Batman Begins.
      As for Blade, I'm already right there with you man! I have the trilogy on blu ray, and then also the first film on 4K (apparently the other ones are coming to 4K as well). That's a great trilogy... I always forget those are Marvel. I don't even mind the third film -- I kind of dig the early Ryan Reynolds performance. Plus, we get to look at Jessica Biel LMAO! But yeah, I agree, those films are a blast! I'm looking forward to picking up the others on 4K when they come out.
      I've never seen Logan or The Wolverine, so I definitely will need to check those out at some point. So those are pretty good, huh? I may have to pick them up soon.

    Guardians of the Galaxy is a great example of what annoys me about “superhero films” today. They try SO HARD for humor. I get that is what Chris Pratt is but come on…it’s too much! I don't think I'm a prototypical super hero viewer. I also wasn't into comics as a kid but watched it on TV and movies, too. I respected the old, original Superman show but didn't love it. My dad got me to watch it because I loved the cartoon, Underdog. I did love the original Batman TV show with Adam West as a kid. Even then, I knew it was corny but I loved the theme song and the batmobile, especially. I also watched and loved The Hulk tv show, the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman. I didn't watch The Justice Friends cartoon or Wonder Woman cartoon or live action show. I have a feeling if I were a few years older, I would have watched the show for Linda Carter in that outfit. lol
    Since being a teenager, I've been turned off by oversaturation, highly pushed ad campaigns for movies or events. I think that's why I missed Ghostbusters and Batman (1989), when they were released, and never went back. Other movies I missed as a kid, like Star Wars and Jaws, I did eventually watch them and have seen them multiple times since.
    I was brought back in with Batman Begins and Iron Man. I loved the Nolan Batman trilogy and all the Iron Man movies (yes, even the 3rd). I don't mind humor mixed into the super hero movies, as long as it's actually funny. For me, the humor was the best part of the Thor movies. I loved the original Avengers movie and like the three sequels. I like The Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy but like 1 and 3 the most. I got burnt out on the Marvel series in general because it was expected that you see all the movies, to appreciate the next one. Even so, I liked Black Widow and the Black Panther movies quite a bit. I liked Dr Strange and the Multiverse but agree that the multiverse is a one trick pony for me too.
    As for the DC side, I liked the Zac Snyder Superman movies and his Justice League cut. I also liked Blue Beetle, which many don't. I went into it liking the starring actor for his role in Cobra Kai and with low expectations from public opinion but found it entertaining but not special. I also liked Daredevil but never considered it a superhero movie.

      And yeah, that Nolan trilogy really was something pretty special. Totally changed the game for live-action superheroes. Also, I didn't realize the guy from Blue Beatle was also in Cobra Kai. I do like Cobra Kai quite a bit (though I haven't seen the most recent season yet). I have heard Blue Beatle wasn't anywhere near as "bad" as some people were suggesting... I've heard it was actually a fairly decent movie, but it seems like it mainly just suffers from a perception problem.

    I respect your opinion on Edward Norton however he was replaced because he was hard to work with.
    The reason why there won’t be a stand alone hulk movie is because Universal holds the rights to solo hulk movies, and they aren’t interested in permitting Disney to make their own movie off of the Hulk after we got the 2008 version.
    The current deal is that they’re allowed to use the character in major avengers movies and basically they found a work around in the she-hulk series as to Universal also agreed to

      @TheOriginalFuzz  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the info about the Hulk rights and Universal. I had no idea the rights for the Hulk were split up like that, so I really appreciate you shedding some light on that and bringing me up to speed. Makes sense. As for Edward Norton, I know he was hard to work with, but I have my own views about that as well... my guess is that Norton was probably right in most instances and was simply trying to improve the character/role/overall end product and make it the best performance, script, and overall film that he could. We've seen far too many scenarios where studio execs and Hollywood tools have made dumb decisions and screwed something up because they wouldn't listen to the artist or execute the director's vision, etc. So my guess is that if Norton was difficult to work with, it's probably because he was correct and someone else was being an idiot LOL! I feel like I can kind of relate to Norton, because I understand the perfectionist mentality. I think a case can be made that some of the most brilliant actors and directors in the industry have been some of the hardest people to work with. Sometimes studio execs and tools just don't want to deal with it... which I completely understand. But I do tend to side with the artists over the studio execs most of the time. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and of course for watching the video!

    Your average one is just rearranged fight scenes and CGI.
    The stories are plain and predictable.
    The studios only care about the bottom line.
    If the movies are not very good and they still make money they will keep making them.

    Comic book movies are going through something very similar to what westerns went through...
    They need to take a step then come back with an unforgiven, wyatt earp, tombstone.
    But unless someone comes with and undeniably good film (either dc or marvel) the bubble will definitely burst.
    If deadpool is shit marvel are done.
    If superman is shit dc are done.
    I really think the genre lays at the feet of those 2 movies. For the casual movie goer atleast. Comic book fans will watch anything superhero related even if they don't like it so much.

      That was exactly my thinking with Blue Beatle. I was puzzled over how they thought Blue Beatle could ever be a thing. I think about the best they could've hoped for with Blue Beatle was to have him as part of an ensemble cast or something. But to carry a movie completely on his own, I just didn't see it happening.

But I will be curious to see what Reeves does with the Batman sequel. It's just weird that it's not going to be connected to the James Gunn reboot... Not sure how this DC "Elseworlds" deal is gonna work (especially with Joker 2 being a musical, which just sounds bizarre)... We'll have Matt Reeves' Batman operating at the same time as James Gunn's new Batman and Robin reboot (Brave and the Bold?). Seems like it might be a bit confusing for the casual fan.

    55:29 I must agree heavily on Marvel movies I've been done for a long time. The whole you have to watch this TV series to watch this movie is just lame and lazy! Just another way for Disney to try to boost DISNEY+ sales! For myself I've always been into DC way more Batman being by far my favorite. And I do agree with the whole marvel letting Edwin Norton go just because they wouldn't give Edwin Norton the credit that he deserved. And you're right, I can't stand Mark as the hulk nowhere near as good as Edward Norton not even close. Great video as always

      Exactly! Everything has just gotten out of hand with these Marvel movies. And they seem to be getting more and more ridiculous and uninspired. Edward Norton is the man! He is one hell of an actor. And my guess is that, if they found him difficult to work with, it's probably because Norton was right and they (studio execs and tools) were being idiots LOL! I've always been on Team Norton, and I definitely tend to side with the creatives/artists more often than studio execs. How many times have we heard about some studio screwing something up because they wouldn't listen to the artist or carry out the director's intended vision, etc.? That's kind of how I feel about Norton.

And yeah, I know Edward Norton was reportedly difficult to work with. But I have my views about that as well... My assumption is that Norton was probably right in what he was trying to do and was just focused on trying to make the best films he could... best performances, roles, characters, writing etc. I tend to side with creatives over clueless studio execs more often than not. How many times have we heard about a movie getting screwed up because some studio exec didn't listen to the creatives who actually know what they're doing (actors or directors -- like studio interference with a director's vision, etc.). Marvel apparently just wanted someone who would roll over, play dead, and basically do what they were told and never question anything. Well I suspect Norton wasn't having any of that crap, and when he sees a problem with the script or story or character, etc., he aims to fix it. I feel like I can relate to that kind of thing... like I understand the perfectionist mentality a bit. What I've noticed is some of the most brilliant actors and directors have also often been some of the most difficult to work with.

    Hey Fuzz, you really need to check out James Gunn’s Suicide Squad. It’s funny, violent and gory, and a damn good time!! And honesty, even though Andrew Garfield is my favorite Spidey, Spiderman 2 is STILL the greatest comic book movie ever to me💪🏻 But Superman 1 & 2 are my loves also. I AM a 70’s baby. But i hate the Donner cut of 2, so give me the original theatrical version

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  6 місяців тому +1

      I do have James Gunn's Suicide Squad on 4K. I thought it was fairly decent... an entertaining movie. Really loved Stallone as King Shark in that one. He was pretty funny. I also really respect Andrew Garfield in the Amazing Spider-man movies (especially loved the second film, with that really dark ending. In fact, in retrospect, I probably should've included that in the honorable mentions). I thought Garfield did a great job. As for Superman II, I think the Donnor cut would've been so much better if he had been able to finish all the scenes and had not gotten fired before then. Admittedly, it does kind of suck having only screen test footage for the some things (like the pivotal moment where Lois shoots Clark to prove he's Superman). So I prefer the Donnor cut, but only in concept... not necessarily in execution. But there are also scenes from the theatrical cut that I like as well. Saw both of the Superman films in the theater when they first came out, so yeah, I've definitely got the big nostalgia for those as well. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @@TheOriginalFuzz awesome! I saw those two in theaters also. The main thing i don’t like about the Donner Cut, is that all of my favorite lines and scenes are taken out. Especially the “Lex Luther, ruler of Australia”, or my overall favorite line is different and not as good in “why do you say this to me? When you know i will kill you for it”?😂 But yeah, i just think Garfield is a better and not as dorky Peter, but i actually love the first one more than the second. But that’s what is great about movies, they are subjective and we all identify with different things. Great video brother🤙🏻

      @TheOriginalFuzz  6 місяців тому

      I realize this is a very long video, so it's easy to miss things. But nowhere in this video did I say Gunn was killing DC, nor did I blame him for the entire situation. I said he's botched his handling of DC since he's been there -- and I specifically made a distinction between films he inherited vs. his plans for rebooting. I also explicitly stated it was Warner Brothers who screwed over Zack Snyder and made the critical error with the Snyderverse (it was actually one of the chapters in the video - at 24:54). That said, it seems to me James Gunn could've done something more with the Snyderverse if he had really wanted to. He had the power to resurrect it, and he chose not to. Finally, I expressed some optimism that perhaps Gunn would be able to turn things around if he's able to do a successful reboot. So your interpretation of what you think I said in this video is way off base.
