I'm 74 I live in a small one-bedroom apartment. I like to use small appliances like an instant pot, a blender a combination air fryer, stand mixer Etc. I finally concluded it's better to have all of them out on my counter instead of having a nice clear clean counter because it's hard for me to lift them in and out of the cabinet.
I like this idea of essentialism, not minimalism! I am of the age of collection, but I don’t want to leave my children a whole house of stuff. So here I go decluttering. Thanks so much for the inspiration! Good video!
And that is the way i do it. I plan everything and now i declutter. Every year i declutter 1-2 times a year and now i reflect. Essentialisms is key👟🙌🏽😘
My bedroom is painted a kind of French vanilla color. I love it. My room is cheerful and clean. After painting it, yes, I slept better. I don't like dark gloomy colors.
Limiting choices really helps simplify. I like shoes and purses, but now I only buy one brand of each. It stops me browsing for these things when shopping. I also use One In One Out. If I want a new top, what top am I getting rid of? These rules stop me from unnecessary shopping.
Yes - the way I have heard it is that essentialism is a subcategory of minimalism. And that most minimalists are essentialists, but not all essentialists are minimalists.
Need, love, use? That's minimalism. 🫠 please don't demonise minimalism, what you're describing is spartanism, living with only a handful of items. It just makes minimalism seem like an unreachable unicorn, and it's not. Minimalism is just decluttering, over time, with a focus on less stuff is easier to live with. A hoarder can call themselves a minimalist, just like an unfit person can practice towards a marathon. It's the focus and the goal that's important, not where you are on the journey. Real minimalists don't gate keep the title, most are somewhere on the journey to home improvement, for ease of use. ❤❤️
I’ve seen minimalism defined as fewer possessions, and only keeping what you need. I think people have expanded the definition to make it more livable. I’m not trying to demonize minimalism - in fact, I’ve made several videos on it, and I think it’s a great practice. I do think essentialism speaks more to me. Thank you for commenting!

Awesome! Organizing for how you use things is key, in my opinion. Thank you so much for commenting! :)

Great advice!!
Semantics.
Most minimalists define Minimalism the way you define Essentialism.
It's the same thing.
