When i see all the product's your family produces i'am amazed. You young ladies and your brother dad and mom and less not forget grandpa have a lot to be proud of off.
In Michigan where i live, the camp firewood stands usually have both hard wood and white wood, with the white wood being significantly less expensive. If your buying white wood its almost always cut up slabs, if you want a camp fire to look at it works really well. 😄
Great video! I worked in an industrial sawmill as a saw filer for 20 years. No need for an actual saw filer for your mills. It looks like y'all have a nice, efficient set-up there! On a sidenote, I have a new Wood-Mizer LT 15 Start on the way so I can start my own wood products business with my son. We're excited to get going!
Slabs are what I burn in my shop with pallets we get it for free it's green so after you dry it They burn well Sitka spruce big trees Kodiak Island Alaska
You all are excellent an example of family business that makes this country great. Have you thought of equipment to compress the sawdust into firewood logs? Hope to see you at the Paul Bunyan Fest this October.
Great tour. I just got rid of an old saw bench that would have done wonders with the slab wood. Had a 2’ blade. Mill ends(short cut slab) from a pallet factory, is what I heat my place with. I’ve a similar dump trailer to yours and get 5 yards for $50🇨🇦
I appreciate the tour as it gives me an understanding of how things are laid out that not all the videos does. I noticed the safety sign on the back of the office door. As an old "safety nanny" I would encourage you to not wear rings or anything that could catch on machinery while on the job.
"Safety is like a lock. You are the key!" In the work I did I ripped my watch off my arm more than a few times. However I don't see where the Ladies are going to get in trouble at their jobs at LCLY.
@@scottsoper What can I say to your experience?? I worked in military and industry and saw many fingers ripped off when rings caught on hatches in aircraft and submarines, and know people who lost limbs and hands when shirts caught in machinery. I think the danger is not less just because you cannot see it. YET.
@@Gronicle1 I know you care!! Worry if you want to. They are not working with aircraft and submarines. There are things that I worked with that one did NOT wear rings, watches or gloves and your shirt had to be tight to your body, so I know when to be careful.... and so do they.
@@scottsoper Thanks for the reply. I don't worry so much. Old safey nannys like me know that the younger generations will all learn one way or another, just as we did.

Are you drying your hemlock before it’s sold? Debarked oak firewood is the best. The yard is big and well organized. Do you sell hardwood for cabinets or furniture inside the store? Enjoyed the tour.
Have you considered adding a chipper and pellet mill to the operation? All that slab wood could be chipped and made into wood pellets for pellet stoves.
Commercial pellet machines cost a lot of money. However the last time they showed us what they did, they chipped the softwood slabs and sold the chips to a paper company. They do not need to own a chopper for that; just rent one.
We run banding around are slab wood. Makes it easier to move then tons of loose pieces. But care must be taken with the loader, as they can snap pretty easily. . I'd say stop by and see a circular saw mill, but I'm about 3,000 miles west of yea. Where we would call those hills, not mountains..
Awesome presentaion! I been watching your channel for a while and I learn something new every time. As for your (down below) or scab wood, I love to buy some, but one problem, I live in Missouri, your a long way away lol. If there were a chance I would. I do small projects and I converted my garage into a woodshop, I have built just about everything you can imagine. Again great episode.
Rush Limbaugh used to say, "Trees are a crop." He was right. When Mt. St. Helens blew up, the fallen trees were grown for their timber value by Weyerhaeuser. I love watching your videos. All the best to you and your family. God has blessed you richly.
Yep, you look at Weyerhaeuser’s land vs state land, and W’s is a lush vibrant forest again. Look at state managed forest lands and they’re mostly still ashes and a scrubby tree here and there.

there are power lines but not by the Highway. The cost to hook up to them is astronomical so they just don't. Besides they are doing just fine without being hooked to the grid.
Because you guys accumulate so much sawdust along that one sawmill length, I envision two or three heavy duty canvas tarps laying flat with large grommets all the way around their edge. The sawdust collects on top of these canvas tarps. Rigging with small shackles allows you to lift up the entire load and then dump it all at the sawdust pile with a minimum amount of shoveling. But that stacked lumber needs to be out of the way so you can make these pics from the side.
It's been cool watching your family business grow, evolution is inevitable though and curious how things will be another year from now. You kids are growing up and life's taking new directions, part of that inevitable evolution thing.
it seems to me some of that thicker slab oak could make smaller boards for craftsmen/hobby woodworkers to use in their projects. it seems a shame to burn it for firewood. a guy with a decent bandsaw could rip them down to useable boards. I often buy from Woodcraft's cut-off/scrap bins,to get cheap hardwood for small projects. you can do a lot with glue-ups,too. Heck,a lot of people grab up old shipping pallets for the wood, make some really nice projects from it. Nail holes and all. Happy Friday !
