Man I'm not much of a geometry dash player, but your editing is super clean. It kept me hooked. It would take me like two months of full-time work to make anything close to this. Good work!
I remember how some people were saying that people playing on higher refresh rates was cheating. That's how refresh rates works in general, and if it was cheating, comp players in EVERY game wouldn't be at the insane levels they are at right now. It's also why I'm a supporter of CBF. It gives people who can't afford higher refresh rate monitors a chance at the game.
The craziest thing is that sandstorm is not just a god at geometry dash, but also the best player at a 2d platform fighting game called brawlhalla. Bro is just insane
Great video! This era of the game was so exciting to live through. One small editing correction is that you were using the incorrect Icons to represent Andromeda, back in 1.9 he used those black and white colors and the 100 Likes cube (this is a small nitpick but it kinda bothered me since it's pretty easy to correct for future vids like this.) Again great video. Edit: I will add that the title is pretty clickbaity and doesnt do justice to the the high production value of this documentary-style video.
i feel like i wanted to keep a consistent icon usage throughout the video. Cyclic, Riot, Sandstorm, and Giron all transformed their icons throughout their journey, I just wanted to represent their most iconic iteration
@@MatMart That's definitely understandable, and I'd agree in that Andro's 2.0 icon set is more representative of the player he has become today. It was only jarring to me in the context of the video because we were discussing Andromeda during his hacking days in 1.9, where he was pretty much an entirely different player and personality. He started using his new icons after he confessed and began his redemption as a legit player, which is why to me those new icons represent a completely different era and player. Sorry for the painfully nerdy tangent xD I specifically felt strongly about the icon choice for Andromeda because of his unique transformation from hacker to legit player. But again, minor nitpick and a good vid overall!
this video is perfect. I am always getting recommend "documentary" based videos about gd with them having a total of 1 minute put into editing them. They always provide surface level info that everyone knows but this video i learned so much. You clearly did tons of research which is hard to come by theses days when watching a "gd documentary". Never mind how amazing the edits are. This video should be the regular standard for documentary videos pertaining to gd. This is the best video i have ever seen on gd, GG
Love that the premise of this documentary is simple, yet the actual video presents story after story of prominent GD figures at the time, making it worth watching. Such an amazing piece!✨

I came across a silly jumping cube game 5 months ago and was like "Wow, what a cool simple game!" and here I am now, fascinated by the history of this 11-year-old (or so) game. Gj on making such a high quality video, keep it up! Geometry Dash is truly more than just a jumping cube game :D
I'm glad to see this topic being covered again in more depth. The last time I watched a video going into the history of this rivalry was when I myself was new to the game back in 2020. I like that you went more in depth too. I think Bloodbath, Cataclysm, Sonic Wave, Riot v Cylic and all of these topics are an important part of early Extreme Demon history that can really sell home just how CRAZY the game is now. It's hard to look at something like Bloodbath now and see why it was such a big deal... but with the context of the surrounding events you really understand why GD's playing community has turned out the way it has now - and why the game managed to stay popular for 7 years without an update just because of the hype surrounding any new Top #1 entering the demon list. Good video MatMart! It's clear this took you (probably) years to make!
1:02 bro I remember in elementary school some mfs were bragging about their world record on jumper while the others were having the craziest gd tournaments to see who could beat time machine first😭
I won't lie, the beginning of this video made it such that I thought this was going to be something pointless to watch. If it is just determining who is the "best player" then I see that as something that is ultimately going to be opinion-based. However, I didn't click off this video and went and watched it to the end. I can now say that I'm happy to have watched this video in its entirety, it gave me a good refresher on everything I am so familiar with in GD's history and the editing behind all of this is ridiculously enticing and clean. I was never there when it all unfolded, I started getting really interested in GD maybe around 2016 time, but everything about the history of the game that existed at the time and how the community was in this phase of pushing itself to the limits is really what made the game so damn enjoyable. It was more than just some jumpy square thing. Now the thing I want to see most is the actual limit of this game, we've gone so far as a community that I just want to see how it all plays out until the very end. This one rivalry really did change the game, it was like the first thing the game had that seriously called for improvement of top player that was active at the time. When all is said and done, it is indeed us who are the winners, and we can all look back once we reach the summit to see the crazy accomplishments it took to get to where the end is. Thanks for this video. I think I will go beat some hard levels or something, as I tried to in my time playing this game.
You know what would be the truest hardest level? A level that just kept going... And going... And going. Not even some crazy maneuvers or auto click-like taps. But a level that went on for so long that it physically exhausted the player until they could no longer click.
Who’s the winner? If I Valued the Revolutionary, it’d be Cyclic If I Valued Peaks, it’d be Riot If I Valued Success, it’d be Sandstorm If I Valued Redemption, it’d be Andromeda But if I valued the rivalry happening at all? It’d be YOU.

Even though he cheated, I would still consider Cyclic one of the greatest Geometry Dash players ever. We will never forget the conquerer of the Cataclysm.

I make games and I can tell you for a FACT the reason you "need" highter fps is because the game doesnt use DeltaTime() delta time makes it where it doesnt matter for fps. [1k likes for a more in depth explination]
Love the usage of mario maker editor themes in the background! (and route 216 from diamond & pearl)
