I have a 2010 Camry Base with the 2.5L, I bought it July 2018 with 80k miles on it and honestly one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life this car is the epitome of reliable I’ve done everything from redline, left it running overnight by accident one time, drove multiple 4 to 6 hour road trips, still turning no problems. In the time I’ve had this car I’ve only had to change the brake pads , battery (once), clean the the throttle gate and that’s it literally just the most problem free car I’ve ever owned, it now has just shy of 160k miles and I’m almost ready for something new but honestly think I’ll just get a used 2016 or 17 Camry. Was never really sure but from real life experience Toyota truly lives up to their reputation 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯 kudos.
@@asharts2282 I wasn’t looking for anything in particular I usually like a car with leather and sunroof but I have come to learn that reliability is far more important FAR!!!!!!!! 💯💯💯💯
I bought a 2010 2.5 years ago with 123k miles. It’s the 4 cylinder. It now has 182k and has been bulletproof. I change the oil every 5k and it burns absolutely zero oil between oil changes. I use 0w-20 Kirkland brand. Bought the car for 5500 dollars. Super happy with it.
Great that you got a good deal on it 2.5 years ago. I'm looking at one with 142k miles and the list ist $8,997. Doing some research on this model year. I'll be driving about 310 miles per week with it so need something solid that will last.
If there's any way you can take the car for a bit, do so. Pull one of the plugs and look at the cylinder face with a flashlight or endoscope. If it has a layer of caked on carbon the car is consuming oil.
I've got a 2010 SE with 135k, purchased at 40k 11 years ago... replaced front struts and sway links, changed tranny fluid, oil changes every 3- 4k miles... bulletproof... only problems were a droopy sun visor and one leaking brake piston...I saw your video on the engine replacement on the Camry with the 10k oil changes.... that was insane!!!! Message recieved...
Hi, how has it been please ? has been good for you!? I bought one and it onlybhad 45000 miles on it! Carfax reported that oil was changed every 6 months no matter miles and now I have it been changing oil every 3500 to 4000 miles. It has 60 thousand miles now and I always warm the engine , maybe once I didn't let it warm I am hoping this will make it last watching this vid at first I was discouraged but then thought to myself well if I keep the oil clean I might has a chance
I just bought a 2010 XLE with the 2GR-FE V6. It’s the same engine as my 2015 highlander. The carfax was impeccable according to a Toyota service rep who reviewed it for outstanding recalls. I was too afraid of getting an oil burner. It has 144k mikes, but the engine is so quiet and smooth. It has new tires, new struts, new alternator, recent tune up, all service done by Toyota dealerships including oil and other fluid changed, at recommended intervals. This was all done prior to my purchase. The pickup is amazing, since it’s a V6. The interior looks new as well. Love this car!! I decided to go with the V6 based on your recommendation, and it really wasn’t more expensive than the 2ar-fe. I was looking at the 4 cylinder 2ar-fe Camry, but a mechanic warned me about some of those that burned oil. I do keep up with maintenance, but I didn’t want to take a chance, even with a Toyota.
I have a 2011 Camry with 223,000 miles on it. It runs perfectly! No oil burning. Had the oil changed at Walmart since I owned it and is it perfect. My wife drove it 25 miles to work every day...and then home.
Thank you for confirming my experience with the 2011 Camry. I bought my 2011 4cyl (2ar-fe) new and in 2016 at approx 225k miles it was burning oil like mad, going through 1 quart every 200 miles. I basically had to keep a gallon of oil in the trunk to top it up everytime I fill gas. I was driving 40k miles a year back in those days and changed the oil every 6k with 100% synthetic but that I guess that didn't help much. The rear struts have also gone prematurely and the AC compressor now making noise. Every problem you mentioned for the 2010-2011 Camry has happened to mine lol.
@@Jiggysaw I'm planning on getting a 2011, it has 135K on it... This video helped me and so did you... Just wanted to make sure people were getting high mileage out of them... I have a 2.2 with 250K on it now, but the previous owner blessed me with head gasket issues... About to make my decision soon...
I have 68,000 miles on my 2011 Camry Le, synthetic oil has always been used and i request it at my shop. This car was a fleet car then a rental car so i believe its been well maintained. just had ALL fluids flushed and refilled including tranny, mechanic said all fluids were original from what he could tell. It had the original irridium plugs in it as well and had those replaced too! this baby is running so smooth and accelerates like a dream.this is my 4th Camry and this one should outlast me!!!! love them!!! Toyota for life!!!!!
I am the original owner of a 2011 Camry SE 4cyl. We are at approx 130k now. Just got it repainted, no oil consumption, changed every 5k or when the light came on. Serviced my tranny once at around 90k myself. Very fun experience, but I also work on Sprinters, same style service with the sealed transmissions. My wife loves her car, I have been trying to get her to trade it in for many years, she refuses to let it go, hence the paint job....But now I have the VVTI death rattle....Time to research that one and do it. My kids want this car when she finally chooses between a new Sequioa, 4-Runner or Grand Highlander... Toyota has done me right for many years. Good product! Gave up my Tundra to get into a Super-duty, my towing needs increased... Thank you for sharing your expertise with us. Very useful to people such as myself, DIY'rs....I appreciate you!
Geat car for me. I bought 2011 Camry LE for my daughter. Car was purchased from second owner four years ago. Car has been well running no oil burn or any engine or transmission problem. only i have done was water pump replacement.
have a 2010 4cyl camry. bought it used from the toyota dealer with 16000 miles 9 years ago. now has 110000 miles. I change the oil every 6000 miles. it's been a great car. I'm not having any of the issues mentioned in this video. planning on keeping this car for another 10 years, as a spare car for when my mercedes goes to the shop...:)
I have a 2011 Toyota Camry with almost 362000 miles on it. It's the 2.5 l and I've driven the car to California so many times and back. The only major thing I've had wrong is the alternator went out and now I'm starting to have to replace PCV valve which fix my oil consumption problem. And my whole front end
I have a 2011 with 213k miles. I have driven it from Salt Lake City to Atlanta. From Atlanta to Phoenix . Twice from Atlanta to West Virginia. It has never left me stranded. I’ve had the check engine light on once for misfire in cylinder number 2. Replaced coil packs. It has no oil consumption issues. I change the oil every 5k miles. I owned the car since 90k miles.
151,000 on our 2011 4 cyl. CAMRY: bought it new. Stuck to the maintenance schedule with Toyota Service. Smooth running , no problems. When idling "its hard to know that the engine is running!. Your show is the best!
Love your content! I bought a new 2011 2.5 liter with manual transmission at 0% interest for 60 months. Next oil change, the car will have 165,000 miles. I purchased some new OEM spark plugs and front brake pads in case it needs them (I watched your video on changing the brakes, so I'll do it myself when the time comes). The only difficulty that I have had with the car is trying not to chirp the tires when making a right turn into traffic. Other than tires, a battery, fluids and filters, everything on the car is factory original. I use only synthetic 0-20 oil and change it every 5,000 miles unwaveringly. It gets 35+ mpg on the highway and has never lost a drop of oil. One other note, I drive this car fairly aggressively and it never disappoints. I love this little car and will never sell it. If I ever have grandkids, they can learn to drive in it . . .
I’ve still got my 2010 Camry with the 2.5 4 cylinder. I bought it from a guy who bought it new, did all highway miles and it was the cleanest one around. I now have 175k miles and it still goes strong and doesn’t burn any oil yet (I always change 5k miles and he said he did too). Must not be lying lol. I’m going to keep the car as long as I can but once the oil burning gets bad I’ll junk it and get a used 2016 or 17.
I think you’ll get bored waiting if the previous owner and yourself kept the 5k oil changes! Thank you for sharing your experience! I keep saying to folks buy the cheap insurance by doing oil changes every 5k and your car is proof of that! I hope it never burns oil.
I also have a 2010 LE 4 cyl and luckily I bought it from my girlfriends mom who always changes oil and got alignments. It’s at almost 190k and running nice!
I have a 2010 2.5L Auto as well with 170K miles. Drives mostly highway. Overall engine is great. Have any of you changed the transmission fluid? with city driving, I am experiencing mild jerks. up shift and down shifts.
@@kevtran25 I haven’t changed the transmission fluid since I’ve owned the car yet. Still overall shifts pretty well but I do notice sometimes if I would suddenly kick down or accelerate strangely the shifts can be a bit jerky. Overall it’s not bad, I don’t notice a huge difference from my new 2020 with the 8 speed
Grandparent car! That's my parent's 4 Cyl 2010 with 20,000 Miles (no, didn't miss a zero, twenty-thousand miles). They've had it since new and my dad used to be pretty good in keeping up to date with maintenance, oil burning has not been a concern. I say used to as sadly old age has made him a bit less detail oriented in this regard and I'm now picking up that up, which is why I ventured into this video in the first place, to see what I need to worry about. Issues that have shown up are: Rear struts, front suspension bushings, intermediate steering shaft noise. Was involved in a low speed rear end collision so rear struts where replaced under that event along with the replacement of the rear bumper. AMD is right on the money regarding fuel economy vs the 2GR-FE. Back when I was not married and childless, I swapped my car (then a 2008 Mazdaspeed 3) with my parents for a long weekend due to me, my gf and a few other friends going to a ski resort and the Mazdaspeed's summer tires where not something I wanted to take into the snow (living in the desert where it hasn't snowed since modern records have been kept, snow here is not a concern). In that trip, another friend brought his then new 2012 Camry SE, my friend drove a bit faster than me in his V6 equipped car and used about the same amount of fuel than I did with 2 fewer cylinders. If you're shopping for this era of Camry, do what AMD says and get the V6, there's no point in having less power and burning about the same amount of fuel while having a less reliable engine.
I have a 2010 SE. I changed the oil every 5K miles. It was fine until 90k miles. Since then, it consumes oil. Initially requiring a quart every 1400 miles. Now at 200k miles requiring a quart every 800 miles. I put a endoscope in each cylinder and there is a thin layer of carbon on each piston face. The car is my work commuter only now. 70 miles a day. Compression is good at 190 average among the 4 cylinders. So I still change the oil every 4k and have to change the Iridium plugs every 25k to avoid a code P0351. I want to and should get another 50k miles before I retire the car. I really enjoy your videos.
2023 I’m still going strong whit my Camry SE 2010 running like a Maserati 😂love it///thank you so much for the excellent recommendation I change synthetic oil every 5k exactly
I have a 2010 Camry v6 with 190,000 miles on it and the ac compressor went out. Cost me 1500 to get it all replaced but well worth it. It’s a great car
I have a 2010 SE model with the 4 cylinder engine. Mine has 250,000 miles on it and I will admit it does burn oil. Every 10 days or so I have to add a quart of oil. Aside from that, however, it’s the perfect car for an 18 year old guy like me who just needs a reliable car to go to school and work in.
I have a 2011 camry hitting 150k miles very soon. It doesnt burn oil, the 0w20 full synthetic I have changed between every 3k and 5k miles, and i just did the engine tune up with new spark plugs, fuel system cleaning etc. Im hoping to at least get it to 200k miles 😁
Im currently looking on buying a Camry se 2011 2.5l with only 60k miles from a dealer but im concerned about all the stories I’ve heard of the oil burning and its consumption
At about the 4:10 mark, you start talking about the oil consumption a little more and about buying a used Camry 4-cyl. I watched your videos exclusively before buying a used 2011 Camry through Carmax. I only did so because it was a fleet car AND the rare 2AR-FE/6-speed manual combo. Still have it after a fairly easy 30k/almost three years and I only do 3k oil changes with Mobil. Love your videos!
94K and only problem was new front pads & rotors oil change is done every 7500 I use OE filter and full synthetic oil. I did put in new spark plugs recently. I love this car
Love your channel....you are kn my books the Toyota God!! So knowledgeable and I love your total honest and complete detail information on everything you need to know on your toyota..I own 2 older camrys. 02 and 04. My 02 just had alot of work done on it to keep her goin a while longer. She runs like a champ..my 04 needs a new motor ..it overheated and damaged the block..so I still am keeping that one for now.
Omg I love all the Camry stories on here! I’ve got a 2010 XLE with 115k. I bought it at 90k and it burns just a little oil, about half a quart between oil changes, basically nothing. My sun visor did break recently - it’s always been kind of creaky and it just gave tf out one nice sunny day and lost its ability to hold itself up. Other than that every single button and light works in my Camry - it’s loaded with creature comforts as we all know, affordable, reliable, the epitome of the average person luxury car. I owned a 2010 Prius for 3 months before it was wrecked, let me tell you the Camry is ABSOLUTELY not even comparable, these Camrys are so much smoother than the Prius, even the seats in the Prius were so stiff and uncomfortable compared to the Camry. The ride quality and noise was so much louder in the Prius. The Prius had so many more buttons though.. and it felt like a spaceship bc of how weird the dashboard was. But the Camry. Ooooo girl, then seat warmers get hot as hell, the comfy seats are to die for and miss girl when you need them heated mirrors they WONT let you down. All of our Camrys were made in America with 75% American made parts, I believe it won the award for most American made car in 2010

Oh great! Just bought one for our teenage son. So hard to find a reliable car for them. Wish us luck, bought from a mechanic who works at Toyota dealership. Thanks for the warnings.
Hi Kevin! If you bought it from a Toyota dealership mechanic I think you’re good. Likely he got the engine fixed under the campaign which means as long as you keep up the maintenance you’ll have this car for a very long time without issues.
I just bought one of these from a friend today for a very good price in the current market, it has the body flaws from being in a big city but it's otherwise a dream at 100k miles. I will definitely take the advice and change the oil more often with Toyota oil and filter and also put some new OEM spark plugs in it to help it last longer, i want this to be the last ICE car i buy unless I get something vintage for fun
Bought my 2011 LE as certified used in 2015. Now has 85,000 miles. It is not burning oil. I had to replace the AC compressor three years ago. Oil changed with synthetic at dealer every 10,000 mile, Now they are recommending every 5,000 mile which I will do. Terrible traction with the new (Yokohama) tires that came with it. New Michelin Cross Climate II's fixed that.
I have a 2010camrry sport with 79000 miles have had zero issues with this car have owned it 13 years so I don't know what u are talking about Toyota baby all the way
2011 2.5L LE with 196,000 miles. Zero oil consumption. Mobil 1 High-Mileage full synthetic, Toyota filter, every 7K (mostly 23 mile commutes ten times as week). Complaints: Cabin heat in winter is very slow to be fully effective (about 15 miles into the commute). New OEM thermostat with jiggle valve at 12 o'clock made zero difference. AC is also slow to fully cool down though not as dramatic. Seems to function better on fresh air than recirculate. Temp gauge never even gets to the middle as per the last two Camrys I owned. Noisy power steering pump on cold starts. Suck out fluid in reservoir and replace with new fully synthetic PS fluid at every oil change. Also when cold: delayed 1st to 2nd shift first few up-shifts (the 6 speed automatic). Need to rebuild the front end and replace all the struts. That's about it.
I've had my 2011 camry for about a year now and I live in a country with no speed limits and I hit the gas till the red line almost every time and basically the roads are offroad and the only thing I've changed besides oil tire etc is the shocks never had any problems by far the most reliable sedan of any brand
@@bobbycash1998 do you have problems going over 90 miles? Meaning the wheels feel slightly wobbly or making a little noise? It’s kind of hard to explain but going above 90 speed feels like the car can’t handle it
@@wlacroix10 that could be a number of things. Most likely nothing to crazy. From my experience anytime I’d have a vibration at high speeds it was a small suspension issue like a broken tie rod or bad tire. Nothing that will cost too much. You’re welcome! Watch out for the 2009s as they had oil burning as well! The 2009s could have been fixed by Toyota so make sure you look into that. Watch my video on the 2007-2009 for more information
Each mechanic has their experience. I shared my experience on this engine from tearing down a lot of them for oil burning. Unlike the 2AZ-FE which DID get a warranty extension of 10 years 150,000 miles this one didn't get anything yet. Hope Toyota makes it right and does the same one day.

Unfortunately I wish I agree. The 2AR-FE has significant oil burning issues especially in the early years. It wasn’t until around 2012 When it was updated that it was fixed. The first few years were very bad for oil burning. Especially 09-12 rav4 10-11 camry
@@booty9565 Since the car was maintained properly there's no issues. People often went the 10k miles before oil changes following the manual and over the years that led to oil consumption and pretty bad when it happens.
I would also recommend the 2006-2008 Honda pilots we used to own a 2010 Toyota Camry LE with the 2.5 6 speed automatic it was in the family October 2011 to like March of 2021 or so from 35,000 miles to over 210,000 miles and 5 other drivers in the family who used the car. It was a basic LE model Camry but the wheel bearings and stuff were going out so we got rid of the car and I upgraded to a 2007 Honda Pilot EX-L nav 4WD with the J35 A9 V6 5 speed automatic. Definitely the most comfortable and best car I’ve owned for the last 3 and 1/2 years!! Bought it for $3200 December 2019 with 196,000 miles and I’m at 257,000 miles and it’s still going strong but have to do timing belts every 7 years 105,000 miles though. But the pilots are solid too I like my pilot more than my Camry because of the more powerful engine, smoother and sportier driving and sitting up higher and the luxurious features I have.
Awesome video. Just took this 2010 2.5L Camry over from my grandmother. Going to change the oil next week with a factory filter and Castroledge 0W-20, its been almost 7k miles since its been changed, going to stick to 5k after this. Hello, thanx for the great videos!!! I have a question for you and for all the Camry owners..... I have an important choice to make..... I'm currently looking for a Camry Hybrid, and have the chance to buy a 2011 with 90k miles... The question is if it's worth to change a 2013 Prius C for the 2011 camry Hybrid.....??? I'm looking for a more spacious car and was wondering if the Camry Hybrid is a good choice???
About the 2011 Camry 4 cylinder. Will keeping the car on an idling in-between trips a better option when driving short distances than turning off the 2011 Camry 4 cylinder? Isn't there also a common issue with the timing chain gear?
*** The 2010 and 2011 is NOT the same engine as the 2.4 oil burners that is in the 2007 -2009 Toyota Camry. Toyota replaced the 2.4 with a 2.5 engine that does NOT burn oil as the earlier 2.4's. The 2.5 is a good motor.
Only buy 4 cylinder if maintenance done on time, Everytime. If you want to keep it for many years or buy the v6 way more fun and 2015 Highlander engine built to last
I just bought a 2011 V6 Camry with 65k miles. I bought warranty for engine, transmission, etc for 5 years so I’m hoping it doesn’t turn into an oil burner. Previous owner only drove 7k miles each year
Congratulations on your purchase. The V6 is not as problematic with oil burning. The 4 cylinder is. The warranty could pay for itself easily with oil leaks. Make sure you mechanic checks everything well in every service.
Thanks for your video. It would be great if you could make the distinction between the 2010-11 2.4L and 2.5L as they both exist....are the 2.4L the same as the 2007-2009?

Hi! I would ask for service history. You’d want to see consistent oil change history. Also look at the oil condition. Does it look overly dark? All these are important because this engine develops oil burning problems if not maintained right
PCV valve buried and caused lots oil leakage. Then I poured Carb cleaned into the hose between the PCV value and the intake manifold a few times and this freed up the valve. I'd like to replace the PCV valve without removing the intake manifold. One is to drill a hole about 2" diameter into the engine bay at the wheel well, and the other is cut the plastic intake manifold off (and then glue it back in place). What would you do?

The recent earth dream from Honda were plagued with oil dilution issues and many of their Accords 09-10-11 had the same oil burning issues like in the Camrys for the same years. It's a common patern in the car imdustry because many brands share the same supplying contracting chain for their parts whether it's for the engine components or not, we all saw the case with the Takeda airbags.
That is exactly what i'm looking right now for pizza delivery job ! The V6 Camry :) Too bad I'm not from USA, it is extremely rare find in my country. I've always been driving these 1.0-1.6 liter four-bangers and i'm so done with these underpowered engines. For fuel economy we put LPG systems (with valve lubrication (additional setup for newer engines)) since gasoline is really expensive here. And Iam doing my best to find as much information as i can about this specific camry, really appreciate everything i saw in the comments and thank for video author! :)
For delivery, nothing beats a standard shift Honda Fit. I just retired a 2007 with almost 360k. Fun, reliable, can carry a lot of stuff. I also have a 2010 Camry 2.5 with 78k. Hate this car- the engine sound, how it handles, and the Aisin 6-speed hates to downshift. Do I sell it? And replace with what?
Yea but I heard they shudder when you get up to a certain speed because of the torque. Some were fixed if taken to the dealership within a certain period of time

I’m looking to purchase a Toyota Prius for full time Uber driving and have been going back and forth between getting a Prius that’s 10+ years old with just over 100,000 miles in the $9-12k price range , a 2011 Toyota Camry with 111,000 miles that’s $9k and a 2013 Toyota Corolla with 72,000 miles that’s $12k. All of the “more affordable” Prius I’ve found on Carfax have been 10 years or older due to the battery of most Prius only lasting 10 years. I’m curious to know based on your own personal expertise with the Prius how long the batteries truly last/what other issues I’m up against with purchasing a Prius with 100,000 miles. Also what’s your preference of what’s best between the used cars I mentioned above for long term? I’ll be driving 30,000 miles a year and want to own the car for at least 5 years based on the finance payment plan I’ll be making. Anyone with expertise on these vehicles please chip in!
Hi! For Uber I would look for a lower mileage 2015 and up Prius. For Camry look for 2012 and up hybrid. The batteries do last but you’d need to keep an eye on the cooling fan of the battery
@@TheCarCareNut Thank you so much for the response! The lowest mileage Prius I’ve been able to find in my price range has been a 2012 Prius in the 100,000 mile range. I'm looking to buy a 2011 Camry with 133k miles. I'll just need the car for 3 years and a total of 10-15k miles at best. Should I be concerned or regularly checking and adding oil should be good enough?
Question for the car care nut.....If the 2010-11 2AR-FE has this problem, then do the 2009 and newer Rav4s have this problem as well? They are the exact same engine. Also, if this problem is as bad as you claim, what changes, if any did Toyota make in the 2012 and newer 4 cylinder engines to correct this?
@@TheCarCareNut Well, that's with any motor. You insinuated with this video that there was still a burning oil problem that carried over from the 2007-09 2.4L engine, but that is not the case. If there's any way you can take the car for a bit, do so. Pull one of the plugs and look at the cylinder face with a flashlight or endoscope. If it has a layer of caked on carbon the car is consuming oil.

How is the car so far? Would you recommend it as a first car?
I’m sorry you ran into the issues. At that consumption rate it’s kinda hard to keep it filled

2011 2.5L LE with 196,000 miles. Zero oil consumption. Mobil 1 High-Mileage full synthetic, Toyota filter, every 7K (mostly 23 mile commutes ten times as week).
Complaints:
Cabin heat in winter is very slow to be fully effective (about 15 miles into the commute).

It’s funny because Scotty recommended the 4cyl.

I bought my 2011 camry with the 2.5 2ar-fe. At 104k miles. It now has over 200k i change my oil every 3000 miles and doesnt use a drop or leak any oil no oil burning.
I use castrol extended performance 0w20 with oem oil filter. It is still on the full dot on the dip stick when its time to change it.

Im currently looking on buying a Camry se 2011 2.5l with only 60k miles from a dealer but im concerned about all the stories I’ve heard of the oil burning and its consumption
The 2AZ-FE had burning oil problem but they fixed it when they built the 2AR-FE
Unfortunately I wish I agree. The 2AR-FE has significant oil burning issues especially in the early years. It wasn’t until around 2012 When it was updated that it was fixed. The first few years were very bad for oil burning. Especially 09-12 rav4 10-11 camry
The Car Care Nut it’s probably a case of the owner wasn’t taking the car good enough I have a 2011 Camry since new and I have no signs of burning oil
The Car Care Nut could be also the pcv valves failing but I hear nothing about that on the 6th gen Camry only heard it on the 7th gens
@@booty9565 Since the car was maintained properly there's no issues. People often went the 10k miles before oil changes following the manual and over the years that led to oil consumption and pretty bad when it happens.
The Car Care Nut yeah the only way the car burns oil is by very high mileage or very bad maintenance
