I took my son to Kyiv in December for fetal stem cell therapy. He had that same app on his phone. I remember it saying "Take cover! Do not be overconfident! Do not be overconfident!"
Talked to an off-duty soldier in his 20's. His stories were brutal. Lost 5 of his good friends to the war. Then lost his best friend while next to him in the trenches. His friend got taken out by a drone. The soldier showed us go-pro footage of his friend saying goodbye to his mother as he was dying. It brought the reality of war home for me. It was brutal. Didn't sleep that night.

Why are we paying to fix it
You can walk into Ukraine until you can't. There are controlled zones with checkpoints and you can't walk past them unless you have some official permit. They don't wan't random people to record images that may be posted online and used by the russians to geolocate critical stuff.

David thinks Putin want to take all of Ukraine and reestablished dominant of Russia like the old days. He just revealed his ignorant of geo-politic. If Putin wanted to take all of Ukraine, he would have done so. But Putin learned from the old USSR days. Russia does not want to go back in the business of occupying other countries. It cost too much. Russia only took control of the part of Ukraine that is predominantly Russian speakers. Its okay... David is a nice guy and just need to do a little more research.

Probably because you do not know any foreign languages or at least cryllic based ones. It is pretty easy. Kyiv in ukrainian is spelled differently than Russians spell it so they sound different.
In regions between France, Belgium and Germany every city has 3 names: in French, in Dutch and in German. Same in Israel/Palestine. Same between Poland and Germany. It's a normal thing, and people are just uneducated potatoes.

@@notsocrates9529 the same reason a lot of people, including me called it kiev in the 90's. Ukraine was controlled by Moscow during the Soviet Union times and they used Russian spelling. I have a book about Ukraine that was published 8 years ago and in that book it is spelled kyiv.
