The West are caught unprepared, China knew EV is the future, and they can enact whatever means to obtain that future. China government heavily subside EV. Making unfair advantages enables Chinese EV companies to sell at big loss to crush competition. Putting Western company out of business, which is China ambition. When China controls the market, they can price at whatever price they want. There is much more at stake than you think. Of course, the legacies got complacent and refused to acknowledge EV transition. The legacies bear much of the blame, but China ambition should not be ignored.

As one that took part of the FSD free month - I LOVED IT. Thought it was fantastic addition, really did a great job every time I used it. I didn’t buy it however cause my wife never used it and wouldn’t approve of a big purchase for the software. If we were doing a long road trip though I would get the monthly subscription and use it for the trip.

When it is truly hands-free, more people will be buying/subscribing to it. Though I think the sub price will increase at that time. I am continuing to monitor its progress as I used my credits to get 3 months of FSD. if it keeps improving I will probably end up buying it outright.

I have owned FSD starting with my new Model X back in 2017. OMG April was a jurassic change. I own 5 teslas in my family. It’s a full level 3 with few interventions needed. I just moved to a new city. It is a game changer. You verbally state your destination or manually input this destination and you just end up there. Navigates through complicated parking lots and roundabouts.. on freeways it seems to anticipate some of these poor drivers that do erratic sudden changes. It is very expensive specially if you bought the less expensive model wire Y or 3. That’s a big chunk of change on a $50,000 car. Tesla will definitely be the first level 5 after huddles of legislation is figured out. Who has priority occupants in the car or pedestrian. Who has the liability once the car has level 5 especially if no one‘s driving the car capability. Even if we can prevent 50% less death that’s 20,000 people we save the year and that’s well worth it. The drumbeat headline often misses that EV sales are continuing to increase. It is great that OEMs and the public are suddenly open to PHEVs. It wasn't that long ago (Chevy Volt) that automakers, journalists, and the public had a hard time wrapping their head around the PHEV concept. Not only will PHEV sales get people familiar with the convenience and economy of plugging in, but the increased volume in electric component sales will ease supply chain challenges. Ultimately the increasing availability and acceptance of hybrid/PHEV vehicles will smooth the transition to an EV future.

You clearly don't live in California, where gas is $5.50/gallon, and public chargers are over 45 cents per Kwhr. At those prices, a hybrid that gets 40+ MPG will yield a per mile cost lower than the EV, esp. when you consider the insurance costs for an EV tend to be higher than an ICE car. If you can't charge at home, and drive a fair amount, EV's are not that economical given the public charger ripoff. There are many places in the USA where power is under 10 cents per Kwhr, but here in CA, EV sales have slowed because there are lot of people in apartments. Until public charging comes down in price, the EV phase-in will take longer than people realize. And i am waiting for the $400/year tax on EV's to cover the cost of roads.... that is coming eventually, because gas tax revenue is dropping.

And if that other guy gets in, just wait. EV development will cease in the US, and this will bring about the demise of US automotive industry even more quickly.
At the same time, the pro oil policies would add many thousands or millions of deaths and trillions of dollars to the eventual costs of climate change.

Elon didn't say what the take rate for FSD is because it's exactly as I predicted, very low. People like driving cars and don't need or want the car to drive for them. We did get the subscription to try it on a trip but don't plan on keeping it long. The first trip we tried it curbed one of our wheels %&@#!. I expect it will also hit pot holes, follow trucks throwing rocks, and not avoid road hazards, our car may be a mess by the time we return from vacation.
