I use a cleaver and give the garlic a good smack with the side. Crushes and peels it in one swoop! Jen might like that, it's very knife-lesbiany
If you cut the root off the end of the clove just a bit then you can easily peel the skin 👍

I think you can, but because the oven was at full heat (like 500 degrees) it would be quite dangerous to remove them!

How to be smarter than garlic: press down on the clove with the flat end of a knife until the peel loosens and it is SO much faster to peel! Love y’all kitchen and jorn!
Smash it down with the flat end, let it rest ten minutes. This releases the alliscon (not sure how to spell this) which is super healthy - anti inflammatory. ☺️

As a foodie, the cooking part of the video is hard to watch.
I still love you.
I mean there are fundamental techniques that are surprisingly good in both cases, for how painful it is to watch as someone who cares way too much about cooking.
The concept of using a cast iron or Dutch oven for searing because of its thermal mass, is a great idea.
Finishing in the oven after searing is also good technique, especially for that relatively thick steak.
And with Jens steak, it’s basically reverse searing method. Except using a little extra broiler time instead of searing the cooked steak in a pan at the end.
The oven temperature seemed a bit high to me for both times. I would go low and slow.
But really it were just small hiccups along the way. That lead to not that much searing on the steaks.
But the fundamentals themselves were pretty sound and good.
Nothing truly bad, like boiling the steak, microwaving it, not seasoning at all.
Or something somewhat bad like using a George Foreman grill for filét mignon.
The steaks seemed pretty evenly cooked, and not crazy over- or undercooked. The seasoning seemed good. Just lacking in the searing department.
Using intuition and timers seemed to work okay, especially if you are very familiar with cooking the ingredient, so you are able to adapt.
Though I’m a strong spokesperson for food thermometers.
I love that the smoke alarm had a smirky -_- face when Kristen was telling it off
I absolutely LOVE the new mom sweater. Quick garlic tip: if you cut the ends then smush it with the flat of the knife it will peel pretty much by itself, then you can dice it.
I really loved the judging in Jen's place!!! having some of the show be in a home rather than on a set makes me feel like I'm hanging out with friends instead of watching a show lol, if that makes sense

You should be able to adjust the metal racks in the oven higher or lower. Just slide them out (with an oven mitt if they are hot) and slide them back in on one of the other "grooves" in the side of the oven. Or just slide out the top rack completely, boom more room in the oven.
I love Jen's sweater! Your mom is super talented! And I'd choose Jen's steak because it's cooked more to my taste :)

for garlic: i usually put it on the cutting board with the knife over it and hit it with my palm. it’s easier to remove the skin and it’s crushed so easier to mince!
