So proud of Jorn for starting Japanese! Can also relate to the *expectations* of knowing the language even though we're several generations Americanized. The time some exchange students tried to start a conversation in Japanese with me and were disappointed, just, *UGHHHHHH*. That stuff stays with you and messes with your sense of identity.

I never really expect people to speak anything but the most common language in a place but even that's only when I know you're not a tourist. Like I can't stand people that come to the US, live here for years, and still barely speak English. Then use some kind of excuse of how they're not from here.. yes but you've been here for how long? If you're a tourist or something I don't expect much but at least some level of communication. If you're, like you, a family that moved here generations ago I wouldn't expect you to speak your "native" language.. I just don't think anyone should be expected to speak anything but the main language of where they live. Doesn't matter what your ancestors are. My family is German but we've been in the US for many generations.. nobody though expects me to speak German. It's extremely common with Chinese and Japanese though it seems.. people just expect because you look that way you have to be able to speak it.

My ramen upgrade: dollop of gochujang, just enough water to cover the noods, like half the chicken powder, and a soft egg fried in sesame oil. Basic and delicious.
I wondered about trying it again but turning the dry noodles to dust in the food processor and then using it as the starch part of the recipe? With a bit less liquids maybe? I love the concept! I want to try it myself sometime soon!

Rosetta Stone is great software…I used it to study Swedish. I have facility with a few languages, but always studied in a classroom. This software is actually great. It teaches languages the way we naturally acquire languages as children, so it flows quite naturally.💐💐💐👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I know exactly what I would make for this, and if you want to, here's how; (High spoon dish) Boil noodles in a pot of water, enough to cover slightly over the noodles In the bowl you're gonna eat from, crack an egg, add any seasonings you like, but not the soup pouch. Adding the spicy pack or seasoned oil is fine. (chili flakes, garlic, onion, MSG) Add the seasoning pack to the pot of water when it's about boiling (ensure the noodles cook in the soup pack for at least a little) While stirring the eggs and stuff, stream in the hot soup so it emulsifies the eggs and seasonings. Top with a fried egg, spiced meat, chopped onion, celery pieces, and parsley. Tomato is nice, if you eat the tomato before it gets hot. Peanut butter is fun in the seasonings bowl, if you like peanut flavours.
i thought i was a fan of jacked up ramen, but even ATTEMPTING ramen gnocchi is far past anything I've ever done 👏🏾 my favorite instant ramen ~enhancer~ is peanut butter, because then you get a yummy peanut broth. Also, good thinly sliced deli meat cooked together with the noodles. Or if we have a rotisserie chicken, I'll even throw in some of that. No matter what, a poached egg is mandatory.
Taking the ramen and basically rehydrating it into a different form of dough isn't really like "jacked up ramen" at that point though in my opinion. You can do this with just about any dried pasta. Just add some milk, process it, and suddenly it's back to dough you can make into anything. I mean it's interesting what she did but I don't know if I'd consider it within the challenge. Also, yes poached egg is necessary or at least scramble it then pour it into the noodles while cooking so you get ribbons of egg.

Jacked up ramen is what I lived on when I was a poor student lol. That and beans on toast (but that is quite an English thing apparently !) Now I make it for fun for my youngest as she is obsessed with ramen 🥹
I spent a summer in Montreal, staying at the university, and they keep trying to feed us Beans on Toast for breakfast once a week! Haha. I knew it was a *thing* but I didn’t think it was a once-a-week staple thing 😂
