considering how most mass-shifting bots work, the robot mode usually takes priority when it comes to scale. however we have mostly seen the most extreme example so far (megatron, soundwave, etc)
I think something important to keep in mind when guessing which MP is next, is thinking about who can be repainted and retooled the easiest. Seekers, Prime, Soundwave, Primal, Arcee, are all popular and easy repaints/retools. With that in mind you can repaint Astrotrain twice, so hes got the best shot of being the first triple changer.
Don't forget that the first masterpiece Megatron was a disaster but the second version was good I don't collect the masterpiece transformers because it is very expensive
I don't know if this is particularly likely, but I think Masterpiece would do well to expand into other generations. The G1 cast is wearing thin, and there are tons of adult fans now who are nostalgic for the 21st century Transformers series. Give us Masterpiece Unicron Trilogy, Masterpiece Transformers: Prime, hell, there's probably a market for some Masterpiece Car Robots characters.
My wallet is SO ready for TF Prime masterpiece releases. Yes please!! Leave Arcee at voyager scale or smaller though, so we can have something close to scale for her, just for once.
If memory serves Armada, Cybertron and RID Prime were part of the same vote that ultimately birthed Star Saber's masterpiece, so they are probably willing to make them, since Legacy are doing Armada now, and we all know Shadowstriker is an RID Side Burn pretool, it would not surprise me if in a few years they may start looking in that direction.
Bro I'd be doing cartwheels if we started getting masterpiece UT or Prime. A lot of Armada characters could use proper toys that aren't barely posable, gimmick-loaded nonsense. Scavenger and Sideways would both be at the top of my list there.
After Devastator, the most likely Gattai would probably be Predaking, since he's a kind of bridge between Devastator-style (Dedicated arms and legs) and Scramble City style (swappable limbs. Predaking's arms could swap around, as well as his legs, but his arms couldn't become legs, or vice-versa), making engineering him much easier, and maybe helping them figure out the engineering for the Scramble City combiners. As for other MPs I'd love to see a Masterpiece Chromedome at some point.
Re: the transformations being too convoluted to be fun, I would argue that's not the purpose of the Masterpiece line. The Masterpiece line's job is first and foremost to be the single most accurate representation of the character in both robot mode and alternate mode, but they really aren't meant for extended wear and tear. They're more meant as display pieces. I don't know about anyone else, but my Masterpiece Cheetor's arm guard actually broke off of its hinge because I transformed it one too many times, and I imagine the hinge that hold's Dinobot's waist together probably won't last with too many repeated transformations either. As toys, they aren't great, but as collector's items and display pieces that can be put in whatever form and pose you want to show them in, they're perfect. If you want fun, there are plenty of cheaper options in the main line that can be transformed with relative ease. You mentioned in an earlier video that one of the reasons main line figures are getting more expensive is because collectors demand that they have the same level of articulation as a masterpiece figure, and I don't think you're wrong about that. The purpose of the main line is to be played with, and having the level of articulation one would expect from a display piece is unnecessary for that. I don't even use most of the articulation that my figures have; I just store them in their alternate modes most of the time so that they don't wear out before I have the complete cast.
The trainbots really stalled out Masterpiece releases, the scooping up six new molds worth of time and engineering. Now that they're pretty much done I'll be happy to see the return of cars and various repaints of those same cars.
Takara is mostly going for bots that they can remold or repaint. If you think about it, there are just a few standalone MP molds released. That's why I'm mostly excited for the Rhinox, since they'd really have to dig deep to find a reuse for that mold.
@@ShadowPrime69 They could. And it would be up to the die-hard HasTak fandom's dollar vote on whether they'd tolerate another decade of that BS, or not.
I feel like, for Gattai, after Devastator might be Arielbots or, given enough time passed, Menasor. Both have a larger core bot, and the Scramble City shouldn't be too bad, Motormaster becomes most the limbs, Arielbots probably share limbs engineering so figure 1, figure 4.
I hope they are serious about a reissue of Hound with fixed parts, but it sounded like it was more so just a request from the person asking them questions. They probably will V2 a Soundwave at some point.
You know wouldn't surprise me if once all the Masterpiece train bots are released. I could see Takara doing a reissued box set that strips out all the clear plastic, That goes from far more anime accurate look to the pain jobs.
From what I’ve seen of Skids, Jetfire, Trailbreaker, and Hoist, it seems like MP is trying to get back to where it was. Unfortunately, what I’ve seen out of the Trainbots has been cluttered and so brittle they make SS86 Jazz and ER Datsuns look like they’re made of the most durable materials on Earth. It’s as if there’s a fight within Takara between those who can make show-accurate, durable AND fun MPs and those who say they can but crap out things like MP-44, MP-46, and Hound instead of following through on their word. TL;DR: More like Skids/Reboost/Burn Out and less like Hound and Lio Convoy.
ER Smokescreen, ER Prowl, ER Bluestreak, ER Barricade, and Buzzworthy Silverstreak. All of them have extremely fragile shins made of clear plastic that break down over time. I’ve heard horror stories about SS86 Jazz’s roof similarly shattering, but it seems like that they fixed that for the Legacy Knock Out retool.
For combiners they gotta step up their game those train bots aren’t the best and the combiner looks clunky and isn’t very tall for being a 6 bot combiner, also some reports of clear plastic issues which isn’t the best especially with a lot of those panels being clear. If they wanna do a menasor, superion, Bruticus, etc they gotta amp up their game cause there’s a lot of 3P combiners some are solid figure. The easier one probably menasor cause you could probably get away with doing something similar to the legacy one As for G1 it’s a matter of time and while I do love me a good triple changer but it will be rough for Takara to do without it being expensive, headmasters could be cool those would be quick and easy then target masts if they do 86 MPs a reissue with the target master could be possible Something I hope pick up is the beast wars MPs cause that’s lacking especially on the predacon side. It could be a good buffer to stall out G1 doing the S1 cast, heck maybe reissue a few of the older ones like primal or dinobot. I do hope we see transmetals, rampage, and depth charge in legacy cause MP versions if they happen ar years aw
Yeah, and I also don't think triple changers are nearly the Pandora's box he makes them out to be. Springer was a star of the movie and third season, while both Astrotrain and Blitzwing were prominent in the second season, but the rest were never all that important outside a single episode or two.
considering the fact MP is all about cartoon accuracy, I don't think they'd do the scramble city style and they'd probably just do the configuration that people are the most used to.
I can see an argument being made that the Scramble City style of combination _is_ cartoon accurate, because of the _Scramble City: Mobilization_ OVA, which was actually the debut of the Special Teams in JG1 continuity
@@OptimusPhillip yeah I do often forget about that OVA, but at the same time would they want to be accurate to one ova or an entire series. Sure they'll make a little accessory to reference one episode, but increase the complexity of their entire MP sub-line?
I think it depends on the team. I mean, if you look at the Aerialbots, for example, the limbs all had nearly identical transformations and robot modes, meaning it would probably be cheaper to use the same engineering for each and likewise retain the scramble function. The only reason to do Superion with a fixed configuration would be if the fists and feet were going to be integrated into the limbs.
Debatably. Although considering that approach is basically just Motormaster with cars stuck on his arms and legs, there really shouldn't have been much engineering limitations preventing scramble as an option either. Ditto for the Aerialbots, since the limbs all had nearly identical transformations. It really only the Combaticons and Protectabots that would majorly benefit from having dedicated limb configurations.
I don't think MP's well is ever going to dry anytime soon. While Skids and Skyfire managed to raise the bar for MP once again, there is tons of room to re-make older figures.
Yknow, if they did an mpg poseidon, they might be able to make a really good combiner. You know why? They wouldn't have to make them transform! Of course, in the cartoon they didn't transform except combining or guns, so for a hypothetical cartoon accurate king poseidon, none would get robot modes! The beauty of the classic teams were how similarly designed their limbs were to each other (alt mode kibble aside). And as others have said, the robot modes would be the priority so vehicle mode scale wouldn't be an issue.
