The man who abducted the kids in Newcastle was called David Bryant from Cumbria and he was caught with DNA evidence in 2011. It turned out that he'd also committed two earlier crimes in Hampshire in 1982 and 1983. As so often is the case, the victims in Newcastle came from the poorest areas of the city, with a lot of social breakdown and problems.

Louise Sellars killer was caught. A 2016 news reported suggested he was due to be released. The tragedy for the mother is not only was her daughter murdered and the killer may already be released, but her husband sank into depression, addiction and ultimately took his own life. So sad.

The Darlington child rapist got 17 years in March 2013, although he's eligible for parole in August 2020. Forensics also linked him to a child abductions in Hampshire in August 1982 and in May 1983. What a pathetic sentence!!

is it my imagination or has it all got a bit hurried somehow - disjointed, talking faster to cram more in. the theme tune is no longer a drummers wet dream and the set is like a last minute mutiny from the carpenters. it's one of those things where they tried to make it better but made it worse. talk slower, make it an hour long (tea break self promotion in the middle) and de-brown the set with some bright paint and carpets.

According to the British Crime Survey, this was around the time violent crime reached its peak (1995). Ever since then, the violent crime rate has decreased. Based on surveys of 1000s of people, not just reported crime. Not sure if I believe it 100%? Perhaps people were becoming less tolerant of violence around the mid 90s so they felt more inclined to report it in the survey whereas in the 80s, they didn’t think it was even worth mentioning. Fights were just normal on a weekend night back then.

Crimewatch axing the original theme for this jazzy version was strike one and they were obviously at this point trying to sex things up. The mini clips shows it. Quite a few people had mobile phones by 1995, I remember in the sun the adverts for motorola phones except not everyone could afford them as they had to have a contract and pay every month. It wasnt until PAYG that almost everyone started owning one which would be in the late 90s to early 00s

interesting to 'feel' a change in the aura of the crimes somehow. the politics hinted at in the darren fawns murder, increase in paedos, less bank/security robberies although CCTV is getting too good for them. fraudster who obtains bank details of companies he targets to swindle - that was a tactic used by the private dicks hired by the newspapers and at some point jaqui hames was stalked by the same system. i shall have to work out a timeline of events.
