Great stuff Jeff! Learned a ton from you so far and am super thankful I ran into this channel. One small correction for others who may watch in the future. At 37:19 you mention there is no device that limits current throughput for example to share charge between batteries. Recommend checking out something like the victron Orion-tr smart dc dc charger. www.victronenergy.com/dc-dc-converters/orion-tr-smart. If programmed correctly for the battery application this device can be used instead of a battery combiner and should eliminate issues of a large delta between battery banks driving a very high current when connected and then blowing protection fuses. This is because this device would limit current to the max output of the device. The downside is more cost and complexity of the device in that it needs correctly programmed settings for the battery application (flooded / agm / lithium) compared to the simpler battery combiner relay.

Hi Scott, good point, a DC to DC charging converter is a useful tool here. Thanks for sharing.

32:38 thank you for the explanation. I was wondering this myself. In the morning when I start my boat after a night and my battery is depleted to 45-50%, the combiner would close and open and close and open and it freaked me out but I never knew why. I am going to check my starter battery voltage on the app when this happens next time. My battery bank is very small 125aH because I have a small boat but I always wondered why it would click on and off. Eventually, after 10 clicks it would just stay closed and charge everything up.
