You nailed your new video style/series! 👏 👏 👏 I really really love that you show all of the main pattern details - including yarn weight, size range, and price - on the screen. Super helpful! I'm also impressed with how you edited to have the chevrons go across the screen but not over your face. 🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇
Thank you so so much! This video was definitely a labor of love, but I am so proud of how it turned out! I'm glad that you liked it!!!
Yes, please do more videos like this! This was my favorite of all your videos, and I got a lot of pattern ideas to add to my favorites. Thank you.
You gave me a smile, thanks. I have been using a chart for the very first time (i am +70 years old) and shaking my head at what i have been missing for years. Not good when we let our fears hold us back.
I am so happy! Thank you for sharing ☺️
Although I'm not a big chevron fan, I liked the Joel cowl a lot. What I loved was your moment of commenting on size inclusivity and the lack thereof in some patterns. It does need to be mentioned and I'm glad you did.
Thank you so much! I think that cowl is just perfection. I appreciate your feedback 💛
You’re getting the hang of this podcast thing! I thought you were a little scattered when you first started, but you’re already starting to look like a pro. Nice work! I won’t miss any of your podcasts.
Thanks so much for being here 🥰
I love the idea of spooky stitches, but I was struggling to think of something....but when you mentioned charts ☠️ I knew that was my thing 😅 I have always avoided charts...but maybe now's the time to conquer my fears ❤️
Absolutely love the low contrast chevron idea. I feel like that is so classy! Thanks for another fantastic episode Nora 😘
Now is SO the time!!! I promise once you just figure out how to read the chart, it is smooth sailing from there. You might even find that you prefer it!!! Please keep me posted ! Thanks for watching 🥰
The textured chevron is a big part of the reason I fell in love with the artisane cardigan. I love how its combining 2 trends of chevrons and knit/purl textures along with classic cables and moss stitch
I LOVE that pattern!!!
I've never been a fan of strong geometric patterns, so I was happy to see the variety you brought into this video AND I'm loving that herringbone look cowl. I am definitely looking up that pattern. Thanks for another fun episode!!
That one is honestly my favorite-so timeless! Thanks for watching 🥰
What an amazing episode!! Thank you for all of the hardwork that was put into today’s video.
Thank you so much for noticing 🥰
The Emilie Vest by Camilla Vad was released in January 2022 and is one of my favorites. It is versatile since the zigzags can be knit in color or made in structured knitting, or even both in the same vest 😃
What a great informative video! That wrap sweater has gone straight in my favourites! I have been knitting on my ranunculus as I have been watching. Now I am ready to divide body and sleeves ❤
Thank you so much!!! I hope you have smooth sailing the rest of the way!
Thank you for all these cool ideas! Learning shevron is my Spooky2023 challenge 😅
How have I not realised this 🤦🏻♀️ I adore chevrons, I adore graphic and have a fair few of the patterns you mention saved in my favourites but just didn’t pull all of that ‘trend’ together in my head! 🙈 Great podcast as ever and I do appreciate the work that you put into your videos - firm favourite podcast 👌🏻❤️
Thank you so much! That is a huge compliment 🥰 I hope you get to knit one soon!
Oh my gosh! You’re here and it’s not Saturday morning!!!years ago I had quit knitting because of size inclusivity issues. I had put on quite a bit of weight and there just weren’t patterns for me. I wasn’t that large either. Maybe 1-2x. They weren’t available. So I quit knitting. Then I lost weight so ff 14 years later, I was shocked at the size ranges, some having 10 sizes. Wow! It is nice to see. I don’t like the designer shaming I’ve seen on some of the other channels though. 14 years ago and probably even 10 years ago or less that just wasn’t done. So if people have older designs they probably won’t have these size ranges unless they change the patterns.
Keeping y’all on your toes! 😂 I totally hear you on what you’re saying. I certainly understand older patterns not having the up to snuff sizing, but patterns released within the last year should be a little different. I know it must be so much for designers to keep up with, so I’d never want to put someone down. Just want to voice my love for the patterns and wish that more people could knit them! Thank you for watching 🥰
The Jane dress by Elizabeth Margaret is also a recent pattern (July 2023) with all-over chevron! Her patterns are very fit-focussed, so that’s worth checking out.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video! I always enjoy you, though! Your sincere, honest spirit is so enjoyable.
Thank you so so much! 🥰
I look forward to every one of your videos. Love you vibe and I enjoy every minute. Long may your enjoyment to film continue ❤
Thank you so so much 🥰
Omg so excited to find you/your channel! What I a-predicate the most about this is the number of designers and patterns I have never heard of! I was legit in a rut of not finding any new designers that caught my interest, and you have sent me in all kinds of cool new directions! And that is SO RARE! You have a new subscriber and I can’t wait to see all of your content!
Thank you so so much!! I feel like I am always on the hunt to find out who I’ve been missing! Thanks for joining the crew!!!
Excellent selection of patterns, thank you so much! 😊🤗❤
Thank you!!!
stranded color work with increases are my spooky stitch kryptonite right now!! Great episode, Nora!
Great episode!! Already looking forward to more pattern round-ups from you 😍
Thanks so much! 🥰
Super well done video! Hope you are able to do many more of whatever style video you feel like. All are wonderful!
Thank you so much!
Super fun video!! I have been loving your energy and information!
Thank you so much! 🥰
〰 I enjoyed all the patterns you shared. I knit my first chevron pattern back in 2012 and found it to be a fun knit. I love that chevrons seem to be trending now.
〰 thank you so much! They are so so fun! I am still seeing them in all of the stores!
❤❤❤ I love the chevrons too!
Roundups and all your tips great details. So love your Fonts & Graphics! So talented and in so short a time in learning curves and challenges! What a Sweet Knitting Party 🔴!!
Thank you so so much!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Thanks Nora such great content❤
Thank you so much!
i have what i need to make the Missoni Accomplished. Working in black and gray. Thanks for sharing the Ravelry bundle - so convenient.
Fantastic! I love how crisp that one is! Just added it to the bundle too! Please tag me if you share on instagram-I love knitting vicariously through you guys! Happy knitting!
I really enjoy your podcast! It’s so refreshing! Congratulations on 3000 subscribers! I’m sure that number will grow!
My mother in law is almost 95 and still knitting. I’m working on a No Frills sweater. I just finished a Sooner Simple Summer sweater and I’m about to cast on a Felix. I love yours!! I’m also knitting a ranunculus for my daughter!!
Thank you soo much!!! 🥰 I hope it all goes smoothly!
Hi Nora!!! I am thoroughly enjoying your podcasts!!! I became obsessed with knitting a ranunculus so that is how I found you. (I guess that’s my Spooky project!)I’m sooo glad that I found you. So upbeat and fun! You are doing a great job!!! I love your monochromatic Lykke sweater… such a great idea. About Rhinebeck… not everyone has your people skills! I think it would be fun to go with a group of fiber fanatics: I’ll see you there next year😂 Thanks sooo much for your work!!! Jane
Aw yayy! Well thank you!!! 💛 welcome to the party!
I really like the Aegyu knits sweater the obba. I feel it's very classic
Thanks for sharing all the beautiful knitting patterns. I’m a big fan of geometric and chevron patterns and have my eye on the new design Woodlark sweater by LeKnit 😊
Oooh one to look out for! Thanks for watching! 🥰
What a great idea for a video! Please make another in 6 month or so :)
l love the Jeol cowl suggestion!
Great episode! The Thonnan top by Kat Weaver also features the wavy pattern.
I first noticed This chevron thing with Missoni. But it is definitely having a moment.
Loving all these. So different than other channels. I love your energy to compared to other channels. Very informative to with all these patterns. 💜
Thank you so much 🥰
Thank you so so much, it really means a lot! 🥰
Omg, I literally just started a Chevron /zig zag scarf!
Right on trend!!!
Browsing Ravelry last night I came across the Cosmo Cardigan by Simone Ryan that has a very subtle chevron effect. Might have to cast this one on!
Love this podcast. Chevron are ALL over. We’re heading into summer in South Africa and the trend can be seen in summer wear. I knitted the Contrast Blast socks and they are delicious. Stephen had just launched the Contrast Blast mittens. Give them a look. So cute.
Thank you so much! That is so cool that you are seeing it there too! Definitely going to peek at the mittens! Thank you!
I love the Tendreil! I also applied unsuccessfully for the test knit. But Sophie said she had over 500 applications, which blew me away. I guess we're gonna see a lot of Tendreils and I love it. If you are going to knit it, maybe this could be an idea for a KAL. So many great patterns in your roundup. Glad about your take on a pattern roundup.
In hindsight, it was for the best 😂 I had way too much going on to focus on that lol. But I am definitely still intrigued by the pattern! Ill keep that in mind! Thanks for watching!!!
Very good episode! I've had the Maywick by Gudrun Johnston in my favourites for a very long time...now I feel like casting it on immediately 😊.
Ooooh yay! Happy casting on! Thank you ☺️
Thanks for the video! Very informative. I’d like to add something to the question of size inclusivity of Aegyoknits patterns. I think they are quite inklusive and would like to explain why: I recently bought the pattern for the obba sweater. Yes there are only three sizes - however the biggest equals an European 52 (almost 54) which is an XXL in international sizing. Yes, I see that there are people who are in need of 3XL and more. As Aegyoknits seems to be on an international scale of attention only for about a year and a half (maybe a few months more) she probably has the Northern European market in mind, where XXS to XXL already is quite inklusive. I say quite because I won’t neglect that there still are people outside of the range. But from a market point of view I can understand that as a Scandinavian designer you might start within that ballpark.
The next thought I’d like to mention is yarn weight. In the Obba and many others of her design she uses rustic yarns, that typically are heavier than let’s say … merino blends. Meaning: a size 3 Obba already is about 1kg of yarn. If you’d go for a theoretical size 4 you probably would end up with something like 1,4 kg. (Which would be really expensive as well - I use the original yarn by Isager and yes it’s great quality but even for a size 1 we’re talking over 160 Euro, which is a lot of money - at least in my opinion) Over 1,3 - 1,5 kilo… that really is heavy for a sweater and I imagine all that weight would stretch out the fabric after some wearing quite a bit. I’m not a designer, just a knitter. So maybe my argument here is wrong. That’s just what I thought planning my own knitting.
🌴☀️Verrrry nice roundup of the chevron pattern AAAAND I need to point out an honorable mention of the pattern “choices” you made for the roundup🎉
I want to comment in particular to inclusive patterns or the lack thereof…
Your approached to this topic was so eloquently articulated & with awareness that a designer could be watching. Thank you for showing grace & humility to those who this message may resonate with from the designer prospective.
Love ya in spirit & thank you for ALL the research, time & energy put into this podcast, hug doggy for me xoxo☀️🌴
Edit: and A BIG OLE’ THANK YOU for the bundle on Ravelry💐🌸🌺
Thank you so so much! This really means a lot to me 🥰👑
This video came out just as I finished the "wavy gravy" sweater by Caitlyn Turowski! Right in line with the chevron stripe!!
Right on trend!!!
I just bought yarn last weekend to make the Obba sweater by aegyoknit! This will be my first time knitting anything from this designer, and I was so surprised to see only 3 sizes listed in the pattern. 😬I'm loving all the modern takes on chevron. Also love your outfit! Looks Moira Rose inspired in the best way :)
ooooh yay! It is such a gorgeous sweater!!! Please tag me if you post on IG so i can knit vicariously through you! 🤓 and I will take that compliment gladly!!! Thanks so much! 🥰
〰️ / 🥰 Love how you were able to see the trend emerging. Way to be ahead of the pack! Also, thanks for handling the size inclusivity issue with class and positivity! 👏👏👏👊
Thank you so much for this 🥰
I'm thinking some of the accessories like the Foxy Sweater Scarf could maybe work as an advent knit if you got a 100g main color skein with the advent or separately to go with the advent.
SO SMART! That would be a great idea!!!
my spooky stitches is my current WIP! i'm participating in a MKAL using DPNs to knit fingerless gloves for the first time *and* i am doing stranded colorwork on them
DPNs shocked me the first time I used them! They look like a funny little torture device when they're all in action, but I found them to be so fun!
I'm having a ton of fun with them too actually! @@akaNoraKnits
Totally agree on having sizing inclusivity especially if pattern designers want to amass an internationals audience or customers. As disappointing as it is, Asian designs and brands cater to their regional market, where size 8 is probably the biggest size their regular stores carry (average sizes run between 0-6). They’re slowly coming around to embrace curves but it’ll take some time 😢
I have the Joel Sweater in my library…it looks so cozy! Hopefully the designer will introduce more sizes…
It’s a beautiful sweater! I’d love to knit it too!
Have you seen the Wavy Gravy Sweater and accessories by Wanderlust Knitter? I knit the sweater in a gradient and it turned out really nice.
I adore that one! Adding it to the bundle as we speak!
For me, chevrons are a throwback. Way back. . . along with ponchos and bellbottoms...
Ooooh yes! And I am very happy to live there with all of the above! 😂
Chevrons… Espace Tricot’s “Missoni Accomplished” was super popular for a while and all I see when I look at it is “Charlie Brown” 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Haha they’ll just be in your shoe!
Ain’t that the truth?! 😂
You know i hadn't really noticed because chevron is something i skip over in garments usually. All i see is charlie brown and my grandmas infinite number of crochet afghans .... things i love but not to wear. However you are definitely right its a thing. I think i would go for zigzags more in a textured design ot so much the stripey colors
THAT IS LITERALLY WHY I HAD TO DO A MONOCHROMATIC LOOK FOR MY LYKKE 😂😂😂 I could not unsee Charlie Brown 😅
I’ve noticed the chevron trend too. Does anyone else think “Charlie Brown!” when you see the chevron sweaters?!
Literally why I had to knit my Lykke in monochrome 😂 once you see it, you can’t unsee it
Love your videos! Do you have any advice for people looking to get into knitting?
Thank you so much! I definitely do! I think that the best way to start is just diving in. Grab yourself some needles and some acrylic yarn-nothing too chunky or fuzzy-and just start looking up different videos on knit and purl stitches. Just work on making a little scrap swatch first and accept the imperfections! Once you get the hang of it, I would recommend finding a tutorial for a 1x1 ribbed hat. I will see if I can track down the first one I watched. Don’t expect it to be great or for it to fit or anything-just get it done! You can rip out and start over however many times you want, but I promise by the time you get to the end of the project, you’ll feel so prepared to conquer another one and it will be 100% better!
@@akaNoraKnits that’s great, thank you so much! I got my first pair of needles today and just going to dive right in :)
Love the community you are building here
watching your video and looking down at the wip in my lap… it’s total #chevenergy (are we making that a thing?) - the Frank shawl by Joji locatelli ⚡️ it’s not giving full Charlie Brown but zigging and zagging for sure in a fresh way! I’m really enjoying your channel- thanks for all of your work!
Ooooh I love that!!! Thank you so much 🥰
My spooky stitches is brioche. I took a class at my LYS. I failed miserably. I hate for something like that beat me.
It’s all about finding the right tutorial. Wild how someone can explain something a little bit differently and it all clicks suddenly. I hope it all works out!
I have heard of a shanklet
Missoni Accomplished by Espace Tricot is a free pattern.
great to know--thank you!
Here are my thought on size inclusive patterns. Why is it only about making patterns larger? What if you are a super tiny person, a little person, super tall, super short? Do we tell them to shop in the children’s department? Of course not. At some point we have to take responsibility for our selves and make adjustments. When we shop for other clothes, do we find a particular item in every size imaginable? Do we give those designers a hard time for not making every clothing item in every size? I think this is one of those topics that picks up speed among pod casters, like apologizing for the *crinkle* or *chef’s kiss*. People hear these things and start repeating them. Let’s move on. WE need to give people credit for figuring this out, there are thousands of choices. 😊
I actually think we share a similar point of view on this topic. It’s funny because I filmed this video over a week ago and since then, I’ve seen size inclusivity become a bit of a hot topic in this UA-cam world-I had no intention of hopping on a bandwagon. I think that there is a reasonable expectation when it comes to size inclusivity for designers as they reach a certain level of success. I can understand a new designer, who lacks the budget for things like grading, not having a broad size range. However, I feel that the more popular designers should at least cater to the general sizes offered in mainstream shopping. I agree with you, though, that there comes a point when it’s all just too much and too specific. It’s a touchy subject for a lot of people for sure. I think we’ve all been in a fitting room and haven’t been able to find a size that fits us just right at some point or another, and those with extreme circumstances might even rely on having clothing tailored to fit their personal needs. I’m not sure why we don’t think the same way of knitting-only you can tailor them yourself and exactly to your liking. ☺️
Fitting room. Jeans comes to mind!!😅😅😅 I hate to shop for jeans!!😮
💕
another thing about aegyo knits is that they are not korean, using korean terms, and misspelling/misusing the terms as well. not to the degree that it's offensive or problematic, but it does make them look a little silly and it's definitely weird how pervasive this 'Korea is so cute! Korea is so important to us' aesthetic that is dominating culture nowadays. they define things wrong, spell things wrong, and have a very rudimentary understanding of stuff in a way that seems... well, just less than tasteful. that being said, scandi-fever is a huge thing for us too, so maybe there's a degree of reciprocity there...
edit: spelling
aegyo knits is based in korea, which is probably why they aren't size inclusive. one solution for people who need large sizes is for them to learn to pattern gauge themselves
Yes I’ve hear that to be true. Good point! I agree with you, and think my issue is more that it only comes in two sizes that are literal inches apart in size. Maybe if it were a smaller and a bigger it would make more sense. But I do think everyone should be willing to put in a little effort for the perfect fit
What a great video! Thank you for talking about these trends. I love everything you showed us. The knitting list is getting longer and longer ☺️💚🧶💚🎉
There’s something so cathartic about making this kind of video that sort of releases me from needing to knit the patterns 😂 it’s a win win!
@@akaNoraKnits then you should make more and give yourself a breather. Or keep these for whenever you need a breather. It will help keep this space joyful and fun for you ☺️. There’s something beautiful in keeping something that you love none stressful
💖👏👸👼💐
Just finished the first of two Ziggy Triangle by Leila Raven in Spin Cycle and Cashgora. So luxurious, quick and a perfect gift knit. Who knew I was "on trend" LOL
Look at you go!
〰〰〰
〰️ thank you!!!
My thoughts. Twenty inches of ease does not look good on a lot of people. Twenty inches is 1/2 of my circumference. If I were a larger person, I still dont think I would want 20 inches of ease because it would make me look larger. However, I dont think we need to insist that ALL sweaters be made size-inclusive. Why? Because not all designs look great on all shapes or sizes, additionally, it is extremely hard for designers to find test knitters in all sizes. Ideally, I wish knitting designers would follow sewing patterns and have two separate sweater size GROUPS; Sizes 1 -5 in one group and sizes 5-9 in the second group. Each group design is catered to the body shapes in that group. So the patterns are not identical in the way they are made but have the same look. Hard to explain in writing. But my point is there are other ways of being size inclusive and I dont fault any designer for not creating 9 size ranges for every design
I think we share a very similar perspective here. I certainly don’t expect designers, especially smaller brands, to come up with a size perfect for EVERYONE. I simply think that 2 sizes, with dimensions that are only a couple of inches apart, is pretty undeniably not enough. I don’t think we will ever find a solution that works for everyone. At the end of the day, I included the patterns on this list because I think they are beautiful and that the people who want to make them should make them! Happy knitting ☺️
@@akaNoraKnits You bring up a very good point, however sweaters like Big Flower by Kaffe Fassett is only in two sizes and I can see why. My frustration comes when UA-camrs (not yourself) state that they wont entertain designers that dont have 9 sizes. I wish they would not generalize and look at each pattern individually.
I love Anne Ventzel's patterns, but sadly, she's not size inclusive a t all :(
Very true-more than Aegyoknits, but certainly still needs improvement. Hopefully we can keep this conversation going!
Totally!!@@akaNoraKnits
As awful as this sounds, I’m all for bringing attention to lovely patterns that aren’t size inclusive in the hopes that people whose bodies aren’t represented in the pattern can figure out how to make something similar to the finished look and make sure that they get their cute jumper without having to give any money to a designer that doesn’t want to cater to them.
It would be easy enough to work out that chevron stitch pattern and apply it to jumper pattern that does cater for your body.
This is not me condoning ripping off designs in general, just making sure that designers who choose not to cater for people of different sizes aren’t profiting off those people who they aren’t catering for.
Love you and your videos but it was a bit harsh to call Aegyo ‘problematic’. I’m all for inclusive sizing, but can’t we encourage small and indie designers who often don’t have the support to create a bigger size range rather than call them out? I dunno, I just know that whenever the word problematic is thrown around that people then tend to boycott those brands and it’s always so counterintuitive
I appreciate your feedback. I think I made it clear that I didn’t want anyone to boycott the brand, but rather start a conversation. I also only brought it up because it’s an EXTREMELY limited size range, and genuinely wanted to positively provide insight that I enjoy the brand’s designs and simply wish there were a couple more sizes available. Especially considering the fact that they have 141k followers on IG, which is even more than most of the designers included in this list, it seems like a reasonable thing for them to start to consider. Like I said, just trying to move the needle-not tearing anyone down ☺️
Do you realize that by criticizing designers who do not go to sizes XXXXXXXX you encourage people to be unhealthy..... beside those people could do a little calculation......
I don’t think the conversation is always about the options go up in size, but also down. I also think everyone, regardless of their frame, could stand to do a little tailoring to customize a pattern for themselves-I know I can 😂 In this instance, I am specifically mentioning it because there are only two and three sizes, with a variation of a couple of inches each. As brands grow and gain more traction, I do think it’s important to reevaluate their audience and understand that at the very least, standard adult sizing should be available for adult patterns. I love the brand Aegyoknits and their aesthetic, I simply think we can agree that 2 sizes is undeniably not enough. But I say, knit what you want! ☺️
