Welcome back - today a Sturmey Archer GH6 front hub.
I’ve had these sat around for a while now waiting for a service. Both hubs felt very stiff and clunky so after a quick look at RJ’s video I decided to service them both. It’s a pretty simple procedure just make sure not to drop the tiny little lock washers or separate the magnets!
As soon as I get a replacement multimeter I’ll be able to check if they generate any power.
Next up - the four AW hubs that are in the background!

Thanks. I watched RJ's video on the topic when doing a couple previous Dynohubs. Today, I watched yours while re-building another couple hubs.

I recently stripped a NOS 1948 front Dynohub. I had the original SA instructions in the box and it stated that the non-dyno side was the fixed side and any adjustment should be made using the washer with four notches on the dyno side. In my hub this washer was effectively connected to the cone so adjustment was possible but it required a crescent wrench to hold it. I also had instructions from a later model hub which said that the dyno side was fixed (like yours). So at some point SA changed the design and swapped which side was the fixed cone. (Of course all the cones came off anyway!)
I'm really enjoying your videos, keep it up!

"Quite simple to service..." That's poignant and true of most bicycle repair...subtle simplicity even with high engineering. Would love to see how you end up using these!

If the magnets are still working I'll pop them in a build some time.

Nice rebuild. What polishing compound are you using? You should do a video just for cleaning and polishing.

Is the “grittiness” you mention just the poles of the magnet causing drag on the rotor?

Hey Ade - I got the bearings from eBay (*starcycles sells them) or SJS Cycles also sell them. I believe the code is HSA284
