@@CeriGriffiths - Totally my pleasure. Would love to hear your opinion on comparing fabric covers to paper covers for journals. Loving your videos on how to make journal covers each month!
I can't stop watching your videos! It is addictive and I love this method of making a signature. Have never made a book/journal yet and this is on my bucket list.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I love the idea of junk journals but those sideways pages with sideways print and illustrations drive me batty. With this method I feel better at making a junk journal.
I am SOOO grateful for this video, thank you! I have so many beautiful pages that are singles and felt bad about not using them. Now, I will! Thanks again!!
Hi Ceri, You have answered a burning question I have had for months! I have been wondering what you have meant by “Signature” in your journals. In the US, signatures are usually the cursive version of your name, and is considered handwriting that is unique only to yourself. However, in recent years, children in many states are no longer learning cursive in school, so I suppose they’ll use what we refer to as the printed alphabet. So sad how things so unique to ourselves are changing. Nevertheless, I learned something new today, so THANK 11:25 you! Julia. ❤
I often use a seam ripper rather than a craft knife to cut the signatures apart. Most seam rippers have a protected point so there is less chance that I will slip and stab the page. I recently found that using paper tape to reinforce book page folds, even if they are pulled from the signature intact, is very helpful. The paper tape is found in the first aid section of the drugstore or chemist. It is very reasonable.
Thanks for this Ceri, I have a project to make and I was going to either somehow make the pages slightly bigger than A4 so I could paste the pages I have onto another page, however, this might be a good way to make an A4 size journal and add coffee/tea dyed papers 😀 One thought with that last set of pages you used the scoreboard on, would it be better to use the side that was coming up as the valley side of the fold? Would that work? It is late here for me in Aus and I have had a HUGE day so my brain is trying to keep up with me lol a thought though, hope it makes sense.
Kerry, I think using a score board and folding in which every way you wish works as a lot of it will depend on what you’re scoring and the fibres within it, I normally make valleys into mountains as that’s the way I’ve always done it, I find that method prevents cracking but if I’m working with inferior paper or card stock I will still get cracking no matter which method I use. I hope tomorrow goes smoothly for you.
@@CeriGriffiths thanks, all went well yesterday and I had a marvellous watercolour time today with a newly formed group at a local library. Great way to start a day. I think I am going to really like water colour 😀
Ceri I have a signature that’s in a journal that’s not lined up , I really messed up and it looks awful, would it be ok if I took it out sand realign it ? It really bothers me. I wouldn’t cringe every time I see it. I bought a cradle i think it’s called to help me with putting in my signatures now. . Thank you for your time. 😊
Sandra I’ve take signatures out in the past and realigned them, you might need to reline the inside of the spine with thin card or fabric or else you’ll have two sets of holes which might tear into each other.
Thank you for more good tips! I heard likes and comments help your channel, so I'm commenting when I can. Please don't feel you need to respond. I just want you to know I'm soaking up as much as I can from your channel! TFS!
Hi, Ceri. I find it interesting how different things are important to different people. I am (is it too dramatic to say 'disturbed') by music or text inserted in a signature in the wrong orientation. It bugs me. I won't do it (collage is excluded). And when I see flip throughs of beautiful journals with the sideways pages, I cringe. Just my idiosyncrasy. I have done this same technique on my projects and thus save myself much psychological angst. Let me hasten to say - if other people don't mind, that's fine. I'm not critical of other's choices, it's just not OK for me in my work. There. 'nuff said. Thanks, Ceri. Love your videos.
I’m sorry to say I’ve been through all of my collection of book pages and have none left from that particular book, I was hoping there would have been a title on one of the pages as I know I don’t have the cover anymore. If I had to guess id say it was something like the encyclopaedia of insects, it wasn’t an old book and it was a soft cover. If I ever come across the book again I’ll make sure to show it in a video in the hopes that you may see it. Sorry once again but I cannot answer your question.
Hi Ceri, going back to watch older videos. A suggestion for cutting threads = use a seam ripper! Thanks for all tips. :)
Thank you, why didn’t I think of that I’ve so many seam rippers in my sewing box. Thank you again.

Great tutorial thank you Ceri, it definitely answers a question or two about being able to incorporate pages that are keepers. 😊
Thanks for sharing your method, Ceri. I like the extra strength this gives to the pages when sewn into a signature. 😊 ~Marci

Geri I will always comment even if it’s just a single word.....but here’s two, thank you.
Does anyone know what the name of the sewn in signatures is called?
If you mean a group of signatures sewn into a book spine, I call it a book block but I’m not entirely sure I’m correct in that.

I’m very interested to see if you do this the same way as me or not.
