    Nice video. I also do that little trick of turning the screw backwards to catch the threads, especially when working with softer metal like aluminum. Glad to see I’m not alone with this procedure. 😊

    Thank you much for this video. Clear voice, easy to understand and good steps to follow. I’d like to say my trigger kit installation for my Marlin 1895 45-70 Government went exactly like the video, but no such luck. I spent about a half hour, maybe a little more, and used some very colorful language, wiggling the trigger & sear and moving them around a little this way and that way, until the pin went all the way through the trigger plate and the new trigger & sear. While I was at it I replaced the loading gate with a Ranger Point loading gate and a Ranger Point quick takedown screw.
    I’ll take all of this as a win because, although it might have taken longer than I thought it would, it got done. The rifle went back together easily with no missing springs, parts left over and no missing tools.

    Upside down here in Australia and still waiting on a shipment of the Marlin Dark to arrive has given me time to look around and research upgrades and this is definitely on the list. Will get a feel for the factory trigger and then maybe take the plunge on a new trigger. Thanks for the video. An excellent reference for DIY mods.

    Great video. I think the "trigger flop" is more annoying than anything. I don't think it's louder (or more annoying) than clothes rustling, twigs snapping, leaves crunching, branches scraping and friends passing gas.

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  4 роки тому +2

    Thanks for the video. Just installed this trigger on my new 336 dark. All the instructions were the same except all the screws are torx now instead of slots.

  • @AndrewBeveridge461
    @AndrewBeveridge461 4 роки тому

    I can understand slotted screws on the more classic model Marlins, but the CST seems 'modern' looking enough that it would make sense to use torx or something else with a much lower chance of a driver slipping out of the fastener.

    Just did the install, if my new trigger moves forward slightly when the gun is not cocked is that normal? When it’s cocked it has no movement an def breaks nice an crisp? Just curious if that slight front movement when not cocked is normal? My 1894 dark also had torx head screws throughout.. thanks for the help

      Never mind I just talked to Kim from RPP she set my mind at ease, she informed me that the forward movement is normal. Great customer service and super helpful I wasn’t put on hold or transferred to ten different people etc. can’t wait for my loading gate to show up!

    Clear and concise video. Question though. Does this trigger reduce trigger pull? What makes it so much better than the original trigger?

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Yes, it does reduce pull weight slightly. It's better, in my opinion, because of the reduced pull weight, it's a more crisp break, and the design eliminates the standard Marlin trigger flop because of it's two-piece design. Additionally, this particular trigger is wider and flatter, which is something I like.

  • @jimmorrison306
    @jimmorrison306 2 роки тому

    I liked. I subscribed. Binged on a bunch of your videos yesterday. I, too, like the feel of flat triggers. There is one thing I’ve noticed about UA-cam videos, and that is their ability to influence and create trends - and I’m not necessarily talking about YOU, but guys watch, accept something as gospel, incorporate it into their videos, this new opinion spreads to other channels, and it is now commonly accepted knowledge in the community. I wondered how many people would watch this and think the factory trigger is flawed? The new trigger is way cooler. However, there may be a reason the factory did theirs that way. They make their guns to be somewhat abused for the entirety of the firearm’s life, and they want it to ignite all ammo reliably. A lot of go fast parts (in my humble experience) might require a more experienced or lighter touch by the shooter. Some mods require more dedicated maintenance. Some mods don’t last as long as the factory part (some mods are superior). Some action jobs don’t last forever. I wonder if there was a safety consideration with the factory trigger, and I wonder the new trigger will last as long?
    Keep up the great work. I love lever guns. Amazed you didn’t show up in my feed sooner.

    Very good video! I recently picked up a 2001 era Marlin 1894CP with the Ranger Point trigger and Ranger Point large loop. I like the trigger but the loop is so sloppy that that it is a bit tedious keeping the lever closed so the gun can fire. Is it possible that something isn’t installed correctly and/or should I put the original loop back in the gun? Can the Ranger point trigger cause this problem?

    Very helpful video; I like the series and the modifications you are making to your rifle. Based on this video, I ordered the trigger kit from RPP for my Marlin 1894 CST. The package I received also included a Wolff reduced power hammer spring. You did not mention the Wolff spring in your video. Was the spring not included when you bought it? I note that it appears the RPP is changing its product description of the trigger spring kit and eliminating the Wolff spring. Do you have any thoughts on the use of the Wolff reduced power hammer spring? hanks.

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  4 роки тому

      Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! The Wolf spring is an option with the trigger. I didn't get it with this one, but I did with my kit for my next build project. Soon, I'll be starting a 30-30 project and will show the differences in the two triggers. I think the reduced power spring will give you a better/lighter trigger pull. It all depends on what you want to end up at. You could try it without the spring added in for a little while. Then swap the springs and see how you like it that way. I've heard good things about it, that's why I decided to give it a try on my next project. Thanks for watching!

    • @artyman0802
      @artyman0802 4 роки тому +1

      Thanks. I looked at the RPP site and trigger kit page again today and it may be that they are simply out of stock and that both the trigger and spring are still included in the kit. Good luck with your videos. I have subscribed and will continue to watch.

    You would have to be jumping around like Tigger the Tiger to make that trigger make any noise at all while still hunting of just walking to your stand. And at that point it would be all of the noise your making with your feet that a deer would hear.

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  4 роки тому +2

      I’ve just recently started doing an actual head to head, making mental notes & comparing as I shoot each. The Ranger Point setup is definitely taking the lead. I love the flatter, wider trigger. It reminds me of the flat triggers on my precision ARs. I’ll be starting a series soon where I build up a 336. In it I’ll get into the details much more than I did here and why I chose the parts. Thanks for watching!

    Really Appreciate your videos. Me and lever actions have a love affair. I have a 1895 in 45-70, 1894 cowboy in 357 magnum, 1894 SBL 44 Mag, and a 336 in 30-30. Ive started upgrading my rifles at home thanks to your videos. Im just so sick of the gunsmithing industry. This culture with in the gunsmithing industry of ridiculously overpriced work on firearms. Pay me a bunch of money and Ill get your gun back to you when I get it back to you, usually a couple months. Then many of these gun smiths are on some type of pedestal they created for themselves. Like the consumer should be grateful they allowed you to pay them to work on your gun. Its a ridiculous culture in the industry that Im tired of, and it baffles me because it wouldn't be accepted in any other industry. So im amassing a small collection of my own gunsmithing tools to do much of the work on my own firearms
    I think it was Grizzly I contacted last year. I wanted to send them my 30-30 for an action job and have the buttstock and forearm replaced, because I didnt like the one that was on it. I received a quote for close to 2800 for this. I thought to myself well they must be trying to sell me the gun as well at the price, which even with the gun would have ben ridiculous. The guy on the phone told me "no, that is the quote with you sending us your firearm". I said you have to be kidding. Then I immediately told him no thank you and hung up. Im not one to express my feelings about a companies, prices because quite honestly they can charge what they want, but the price was so outrageous I just said no thank you, and hung up. That is the point when I decided to start doing the work on my guns myself and have been watching your videos ever since. So thank you.

Also, sorry I talk fast. It's my nature and I'm trying to get as much info in as I can in a reasonable amount of time. Not many people will hang out and watch a 30 minute video on a simple task.
