The work they do is art like. I can’t help seeing the irony in all off this though. You have a British company, a quintessentially British vehicle and a picture of Winston Churchill up on the wall. And the best engine for you is a German one. 😂 Love it.
M47D20TU2 (M57 - 2 cylinders) solid engine, had it remapped at 300lb-ft 45K now on 150+K miles with just an uprated FMIC to keep the temps down (cylinder + EGTs). Needed a new turbo at 110K miles and four new injectors. Whilst I do a bit of off-roading in summer it's usually on asphalt at Brands Hatch:-)

For those still wondering. A straight six is the smoothest configuration for an engine this side of a V12. ( A V12 is only two straight sixes together.)
Just back from a trip to Morocco in my TD5 camper, 4500 miles in 14 days including 6 x 8 hour driving days just getting to the port and back, TD5 ran absolutely perfectly the whole time, no issues at all, Land Rovers can be reliable but damn it needs more power, I need to look at a remap or win the lottery and get an M57 swap.
Make sure them fan mounts on the rads don’t rub on it in the desert. Mine did back in 2008 after being assured it would be fine by the fan company but it killed the rad. 4000 miles, but limped home through Spain and France.

@@erhardt1477 you would be better off supplying a list e.g. will you supply the engine or do Mahker have to source the engine, when swapping out an engine you might as well do all the preventative maintenance i.e. change all the consumables on the engine, you also should install new turbos or at least reconditioned ones. New turbos on a L322 will cost you £7000 alone parts and labour. This will be at least a 4 week project by the time the engine is removed, rebuilt and all the parts posted out AND are you using brand new parts or reconditioning the turbos for example? are you preppared to pay for OEM parts or are you looking to use Chinese parts? Question answered in this weeks Q and A which is up now
What manual transmission would you mate with the M57? I can't imagine an R380 or LT77 would handle the torque of the M57, especially tuned.
The transmission it came with from the factory - the ZF S6-53DZ
In the 1990s When BMW owned Landrover Defenders in South Africa had a 2.8 liter BMW engine from the factory.
They knew the right way
