Yes The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a walking simulator. It's just an example of the what that genre should be rather than the lame ass 3 hour experiences with ultra slow movement that the other companies keep peddling to you.
I think you read my comment wrong since i specifically said it's not like one of those slow walking games. Personally it kind of bored me. As interesting as it was the puzzles took a bit to long to get just right and it felt like watching a rather dull movie.
Call me crazy, but I kinda feel like this first announcement reveal showed better atmosphere than what it has now. It just felt thicker, more haunting. It was a really striking art direction. And the latest builds seems to have gone for a brighter, more colorful direction. Probably to make enemies and levels more easy to make out. I just feels like it lost some of that dense atmosphere that caught my eye so quickly, in my opinion.
I was super excited for this 5 years ago. Now it's just okay. A narrative focused high octane atmospheric shooter is more appealing than a single player rogue lite. Idk

The current build is a gameplay demo and the little bits of story at the beginning can really not be taken seriously. I think they dont want to spoiler us. As if that is all they are going to poduce after theire last game. And fitting such dense atmosphere with snappy fast clear gameplay is probably not easy. Also the performance atm is astonishing regarding the looks. So im hopefull they are further going to increase detail and effect density. PS: is it possible to make the plants move with collision (and explosion pressure?), it would add so much.
This is the single best announcement from the show, honestly. The mid-trailer twist/fake-out is something I've wanted to see done for ages now, and to have it happen with one of your games... oh good lord. Thank you for making watching this stream completely worthwhile.
I've actually felt inspired by this trailer and aimed to do something similar with one for a comic book. I always made pretty lighthearted, comedic, family-friendly webcomics before, so something like this feels appropriate when it reveals who my illustrator is.

They are not working with another studio. Adrian Chmielarz had founded People Can Fly (Painkiller, Bulletstorm) before he founded The Astronauts. He IS the creator of all of these games.
Now that we're getting closer than ever to early access, I really think this teaser was one of the best ever made in terms of how you manage our expectations and then utterly throw em away haha. The game looks so fun, can't wait to play !
The ppl who got me into PC gaming back in 2004... Man I remember when I first installed that Painkiller Demo with the City on Water Level, I got hooked and upgraded my toaster just to play the full game.

Aside from the part that's obviously a scripted scene it looks exactly the same. If you just take a second to look at shit it's a beautiful game. Only thing I think this trailed showed off at the start was a bit more vibrance in the color and choice of color pallete
I see so many people like "ugh why doesnt it look like this!" Go play it, the atmosphere is there. Yes theres no way to holster your weapons. But walking around in beautiful environments wondering what hell awaits is HERE.

Ethan Carter actually was closer to the roots. Adrian Chmielarz and his crew started out their gamedev journey with adventure games way before Painkiller.
Chmielarz and his core crew created Metropolis Software, made some games, left to create People Can Fly, made some games and left to create Astronauts to make some games. Quite a legacy, but really hard to be noticed by people who are not following their games closely.
Five years later and not only we don't have a game released yet but last trailers of the game look so much worse in every aspect than this teaser. Sad.
(I hope Adrian reads this.) First off, this is a great example of what a teaser trailer should be -- a perfect blend of cinematic cutscenes and gameplay. Also, the graphics look absolutely gorgeous. However, I have one small concern (please take it with a pinch of salt as it is based solely on this short teaser): the shotgun shown in the video feels wimpy. There is very little recoil and the sound effect feels weak. To be honest, the pistol feels beefier than the shotgun. Id Software Studio Director Tim Willits once said, "If there’s one sound effect that you have to make sure is perfect, it’s your shotgun." I hope the shotgun feels good in the final game.
We need Necrovision 2, with it's astounding combo system, Fury chained kills, and independent left & righthand weapons. What I see in this teaser is the simplest of FPS: We need and deserve more.
The feedback from enemies taking damage (blood spray, animations, etc.) could probably use a little work, but man am I sold on the style. Hope to see it turn out really good!
Nice! Just one hint to Adrian and his crew. Don't be too attached to aim down sights kind of shooting. Hip shootiing allows you to put more emphasis on player movement. Mentioning it just in case.

A PC is a basic device everyone owns so no one is left behind. There is nobody trying to sell more PCs via "PC exclusive get it only on Windows" Only console manufacturers are doing this scum. I only should need to own a PC and be able to play all of the games. It sucks that I basically would need to own an xbox and a PS and a PC only because some of the companies cheat and buy exclusive rights. But you're right on that point that it might be Steam exclusive which is sad. Would be nice to see them release it on GoG too.

Getting a strong DOOM feel from this which is a great thing. This looks like the type of shooter that encourages you to keep moving and be aggressive
