I wanted to change to a healthier lifestyle during the pandemic. I cut out all refined sugars, salt and wheat, started exercising daily, reading at least 2 books a week and drinking 4 litres of water daily, also I stopped watching mindless Netflix. My life now feels full and I feel like I can take on anything I set my mind to because I made small change that propelled me into making more changes for a better life. Now I’m 40lbs lighter I feel like I’m 25 again and much calmer because my mind is not full of rubbish, because I fill it with books on improving my mindset. Thank you Alux, I couldn’t have done this without your motivation videos and your hard stance on laziness.
When alux said that 'an outside perspective can be crucial to reach your full potential', it true. I was branded to be one of the best in basic calculus in our class. But the truth is, I just study hard again and again. In our assignment, I have a math problem that I know the answer and solution. But I try and try, I can't seem to get the right solution, even though I know the correct answer. I asked for a friend for help. I was amazed that my only mistake is because of my carelessnes. I was very thankful for their help. Because of that, I realized my mistake and get the right solution to the problem.
Learning the saxophone at age 60 following these methods has allowed me to make significant progress in 3 short years. Still a long way to go but progress happens every day I have deliberate practice.
Your voice never gets old. I happen to be in the middle of reading MASTERY by Robert Greene, this is a good book to help train the mindset for learning through apprenticeship and it takes about 10 years to become an expert. This is a good start though.
I started practicing playing the harmonica when I was about 12. I kept taking it to school every day. I didn't really play any good songs at first, but now I'm 25 years in the game and can play just about song. Consistency got me here. Try me with any song
Weighed 217lbs at one point in 2020 and now I'm weighing 190lbs thanks to better diet and consistency in working out. Stay committed and disciplined people!!

Being about 2k hours into a 10k-ish hour journey, it’s easy to talk about deliberate practise in theory. In practise, to constantly analyse yourself, soon as you succeeded you movie the bar higher. It’s quite a depressive loop you’re in, it can feel like you’re having a go at yourself all the time. And yes you need to stay reasonably focused whilst practicing, the most important thing to learn is to take breaks often early in your process, as you get better at practise you can sit for longer whilst focused. As long as you’re alert, I argue you don’t need to do much but do the thing you wish to master. Your brain is is a pattern matching analysis engine and it will automatically find better ways of doing things, as you as you’re not fatigued, sleepy, drunk etc. Just give it time - my biggest jumps in improvements come around every 6 months, not every week. Just some thoughts from someone actually doing this stuff.
The info you guys share is gold … you podcast helped me change my life … start a buisness , learn new skills , invest and make passive income and now starting my own channel … Thanks Alux … truely a place where people come to get inspired 💯🔥
Both pediatric dentistry and Barebow archery (no sights, stabilizers, draw checks), to be precise and accurate, have required a tremendous amount of deliberate practice, coaching, feedback, desire for self improvement, and determination to be confident enough to perform under pressure ( on real patients that are often scared of the dentist and in tournaments competing against other archers)
I’m surprised you didn’t mention James clear’s Atomic habits or Darren Hardy's The compound effect both on Audible. Great video! Loving the app so far!
I don't know how I came to know about this channel but after I found out this channel I know lot about many things and this made me know that I know little..
Mastering an ability requires deliberate practice, not just talent. Many successful athletes and performers achieve their success through hard work and deliberate practice. Kobe Bryant is a prime example of someone who practiced with purpose, as he would wake up early to train and set specific goals for himself. Deliberate practice involves focused attention, specific goals, and feedback. It is about being efficient with your practice. It is important to break down your activity into smaller tasks and set goals to stay motivated and persevere. Additionally, it is crucial to seek feedback in order to improve. The sunk cost fallacy can hinder progress, as people often stick with something because they have already invested time or money into it. However, it is important to recognize when it is time to move on and try something new. By applying the principles of deliberate practice, anyone can improve their skills and achieve success.
Thanks so much to a lux,you have changed my life ever since I discovered you.And am trying my best to push my friends to watch a lux videos. Thanks so much a lux
**Title:** "Deliberate Practice: The Key to Mastering Any Skill" **Summary:** This video explores the concept of deliberate practice and its role in achieving mastery in any skill or endeavor. The speaker dispels the common misconception that talent alone is enough for success and highlights how deliberate practice is the true driver of excellence. Key Points and Takeaways: 1. **Talent vs. Practice:** While talent is valuable, it is not the sole determinant of success. Many accomplished individuals, such as Kobe Bryant, attained greatness through relentless practice and deliberate effort. 2. **Kobe Bryant's Dedication:** An example from Kobe Bryant's life illustrates the power of deliberate practice. He would start his training sessions at 4:30 a.m., engage in rigorous workouts, and practice specific skills with a clear purpose, such as making 800 jump shots in a single session. 3. **What Is Deliberate Practice?:** Deliberate practice goes beyond mindless repetition. It involves focused attention, specific goals, and feedback to improve performance. It requires breaking down complex activities into smaller, manageable tasks. 4. **The Importance of Feedback:** Feedback is crucial for recognizing weaknesses and making improvements. Practicing in isolation can lead to repeating mistakes without awareness. Feedback helps refine your skills. 5. **Sunk Cost Fallacy:** The video introduces the concept of the sunk cost fallacy, emphasizing the need to let go of unproductive paths and make rational decisions about where to invest time and effort. 6. **The Five Principles of Deliberate Practice:** - **Practice Separates Good from Great:** Hard work and practice are what distinguish good from great. - **Hard Work and Repetition:** Consistent, sustained practice is essential for improvement. - **Break Tasks into Smaller Steps:** Breaking down activities into manageable steps allows for quality and efficiency. - **Set Goals and Persevere:** Motivation and perseverance are vital for achieving goals. Start small but start now. - **Get Feedback:** In-the-moment feedback helps identify areas for improvement and drives progress. 7. **The First 20 Hours:** Josh Kaufman, a best-selling author, suggests that the first 20 hours of practicing a skill are the most challenging but also the most crucial. Focus on learning the basics and achieving small goals within this timeframe. The video encourages viewers to embrace deliberate practice, commit to consistent effort, and be open to feedback in their pursuit of mastery in any skill or field.
Thank you very much for the videos you have posted about failure, confidence, changes in the world along with this one. They have made a tremendous difference to my mindset. Keep up the exceptional work.
Lesson: When you were an infant, none of you knew how to walk, did you? You crawled around until you saw that walking was more appealing than crawling. So, what did you do? You first tried to stand and keep your balance. And you fell on your ass: hard. You cried and got mad. But you didn’t stop. You finally learned balance and your parents gave you some help, but you still tried, and fell, tried and fell. One day, your legs got strong enough that you took steps unassisted, then across the room. And before you knew it you’re walking, skipping and doing all sorts of things. You don’t even remember all the times you fell, do you? Had you given up the first time you fell, you’d still be crawling around. But even as an infant, you wanted to walk more than you wanted to stay crawling. Moral: have the desire and determination of a baby, don’t let you, stop you.
In my opinion the "sunk cost fallacy" can, eventually, be considered/converted as "lessons learned" IF one finds a way to move on, and move forward. I've had many a situation that I thought I was foolish only to later avoid the same mistakes and to also advise others. It's only a waste if you didn't get the message.
Very informative video especially the part of slowing down and perfecting each small step. I have just come from three months of physical therapy from a Pulmonary Embolism. I have been a certified personal fitness trainer for 25 years, I thought I KNEW fitness until I worked with these awesome young therapists who taught me the value of SLOWING DOWN and PERFECTING each movement. Heck one exercise I barely could do even though it looked like a piece of cake! But before I left I was doing it perfectly even when the therapist was trying to push me off balance!

You don't feel lazy or tired when you do what you like, you kinda lead to the work but with true purpose, you are actually called it.

What looks like talent is often careful preparation.
What looks like skill is often persistent revision.
