This doll just didn't grab me. I think if I do get her, she'll be redressed. I like pink well enough, but head-to-toe pink usually isn't my vibe. I also think this hairstyle is overused for Silkstones, so I'd probably restyle the hair as well. This doll is cute, but she's more of a 'wait for a sale' type of doll for me.

Lmao Confessional aside, I'm in agreement with you. All the pieces are nice on their own, but not together. They seem more at odds than harmonious. Besides, when I think of luxury Barbie, I don't actually think Pink- I associate Pink with playline. When I think vintage, and luxury, I think blue! Her powder blue fit and flares (Movie Date and Suburban Shopper), her frothy blue peignoirs, and delicate blue nylon lingerie... Those speak luxury and nostalgia to me more than hot pink frosted hair ever could. (Though I might just be a *bit* opinionated ;P)

I love this doll because it was the cheapest silkstone barbie in my country, and plus it is a pink version of barbie, I couldn't ask for more. For the ones who customize dolls, you know every doll has the potential to make it to the next level and that's why I think our work it's more insteresting, so this doll is a good base to start. I can't wait to start making her some clothes!
I got this doll because well, I needed to have her just to say I did and she was on sale. I really This they could have given her a nice belt with a silver buckle just to break all that pink up and after all, she is a Silkstone. I like the brooch but I feel Mattel need to add a magnet to this kind of jewelry. I took the “leggings” off my doll added black hose and pink pumps just to break all that pink up. I also gave my doll a black ribbon bow on her hair to make her look more realistic. Thanks for the review, and especially the definitions of all the terminology. She really is a pretty doll once you separate all that pink.

I don't mind velcro, she's going to be put on my wishlist, she does need a few changes, but she may be awhile until I get her. I'm glad you did the review, they really are making things so much cheaper but charging the same price. Yikes!! That is A LOT of pink!! The quality and details just seem to be missing?! For a $75 dollar price point I would expect more, and I’m with you I hate when the use Velcro! Really makes you appreciate the quality and amazing details that go into Integrity Toys fashions, jewelry, shoes and accessories. I think this doll has sold well because of the 60th Anniversary aspect of this release but I would have liked something a little more interesting than a head to toe pink doll. Here’s hoping there’s better releases ahead for Barbies 60th year! Thanks for another great review!

You’re right it’s pink overload and the Velcro belt is disappointing for that price point...but the articulation, the brooch, the hair...I’m still tempted! 😭 lol
I wish they had done this in 50s style (like the "Think Pink" sequence in the movie _Funny Face_ ) with a pink bubblecut hairstyle. Temporary colored hair rinses were a fad in the 1950s.
Initially I was excited for Barbie's 60th but the lack of effort on Mattel's part put an end to my excitement. The Japenese exclusives are much nicer, I don't understand what they are playing at TBH. The only thing I like about this doll is the brooch. Great review!

I agree with you. I havnt been too crazy about the silkstone dolls lately either. Pretty but basic looking. I think it's time for a new direction for the silkstone line. Wouldnt it be nice for the line go from Old world fashion to a jaw dropping OUT OF THIS WORLD Fantasy fashion and makeup. Like a line called Princesses of the 7 continents. I wasn't too swayed into the doll when photos were released and I agree with your review! I like the details of the doll and overall the pink look is charming! I would maybe get it one day. I'm waiting for a Barbie that is a must for me! So far it's been Hello Kitty Barbie! I do enjoy Puma black Barbie. She's a cute doll in pink!
note to mattel: teenagers are not the target for this specific line of dolls, but bright monochrome outfits was all over the runways in 2018, then all over instagram. and barbie collectors tend to be people from +30 years old.

with moschino it works because it's taking something small and cute, nostalgic, typically " girly" etc and exaggerating it and subverting it to make it couture while still being self aware that it's absolutely kitsch - this def feels like it's going for that in reverse and not quite working
I totally agree. It looked great in Robert Best's sketches and in the promo photos that were retouched to death. IRL it falls flat and comes across cheap.
I don't like Velcro either. But I don't really like all the print on the skirt either but would have liked it otherwise. I think I might have been ok with the logos on the lining rather than outside!
Suresh! I really like your barbie reviews,you're actually the best of the kind when it comes to a doll review 😂 Although I think you're a little bit picky,especially with this girl! She is amazing,the construction of the purse,the skirt,the fabrics..I know we as collectors always want more and more details,but I study fashion design and believe me; these pieces are so difficult to be made and crafted. The workers at mattel are superheros!! So we should consider that as well....
These pieces are not that hard to make. Mattel owns multiple factories and pioneered this type of work back in the day. If you look back at Barbie's history through the years, she had much more detail and intricacy in her clothes and accessories. Ruth Handler would die if she saw this. I studied fashion design, too, and worked in luxury fashion for years. This is not fashion. And this is a disgrace to the Barbie heritage, especially the Silkstone collection. That's why I'm being picky.
Glad I didn't get that doll. Honestly for me it was the eyebrows, they weren't traditional enough, especially since it's an anniversary doll. But that hair.... loved that hair.

She's too much for me too. At the very least she could have had a few accessories that were light pink. Plus she has the 1959 face style (probably for the anniversary) which I've always had have the same opinion of as my mother; too aggressive looking. I'd like to see Mattel bring back the late 60's/early 70's faces, with the wide eyes and blushing cheeks.
Oh no. Just didn't excite me as much as I hoped. I love the silkstone dolls usually. But this one just didn't work. I do have the Verushka silkstone and I LOVE LOVE her.

Aww! I'm sorry you're disappointed. I think I would be too. I felt underwhelmed when I saw her pictures. It just seems all one note. But her face is very pretty. :)
I passed on this one mainly because it was just too monochrome. I had the same issue with the Chic City Suit in 2017, although in that instance, the blue outfit was less garish. I'm not sure why, but Proudly Pink makes me think more of playline Barbies than collector Barbies. Possibly, it's the excessive amount of pink - I'm always referring to the Barbie section in stores as the "Pepto-Bismol aisle" because of all the pink, pink, pink. And as for the velcro...! In a collector doll? That's really disappointing. Mattel takes (yet another) step down the quality ladder. I'm definitely looking forward to the restyling. I know you'll do a fantastic job!
Doesn't it seem like they're telling all their playline fans to come and get in the collector tub? As if our high price points mean nothing and our wish for quality means nothing. I'm all for democratizing Barbie but yea, this is just such a slap in the face for the collector community. xoxo
I like the idea of a pink Silkstone, but the velcro turns me off. I like that the shoes are not fully plastic I guess, but like you said she is like the basic black one. This is why I'm sticking with East 59th from IT. Same era, but the articulation is better and the original Silkstone body clothes fit them.
It looks like Mattel is shifting its audience from the serious fashion doll collector to mass produced-looking dolls. I am only saying this because it seems -- and said with a deep sigh -- I am no longer its audience. I read recently that the Barbie Business is doing very well. A good sign after so many years of being seen as a business going down and as a brand that is slowly falling into the cobwebs of our past. That shift seems to be evident with what they have chosen to release. I see a lot of effort to make the brand relevant, inclusive, inspiring (all these dolls about women achievers in history). Beyond all those valid efforts of brand and business building, I think a 60th anniversary Barbie deserved better attention. After all it is a 60th Anniversary! And after all she is still one of the most powerful brands associated with women of all ages. Iconic. I mean Warhol doing Barbie. Barbie on the cover of Time. But after having proven their mettle in doing the most astonishing fashion dolls in Silkstones and tie-ups with global Signature brands it comes down to this. No, Barbara Millicent Roberts, this is not you at your celebratory best. At least this is not the way I've come to know you. Perhaps Mattel Barbie's move is based on valid consumer research. Perhaps it's trying to own today's child's aspirations again. A relevant doll companion for growing up avoiding the trap, and the consequent backlash of being a brand that cues wrong body imaging etc. With great blonde power comes great responsibility and 60 years means she has to have more wisdom and live up to that. Therefore, I congratulate them in that regard. And yes, Suresh, perhaps you're right...it's done. I am still focusing on other Barbie dolls done before this business of shifting seemed to happen. I personally felt they left me a serious Barbie collector behind. = (

I was very disappointed in the quality. Then I found out that the doll was made in Indonesia! No wonder the eye liner on my doll was so rough! How about yours?
What exactly are you insinuating? Mattel has owned massive manufacturing plants in Indonesia since the 1990s. Barbie has always been made in either Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand or China. Some of my most beautiful dolls came from the Indonesian factory. These quality issues as of late are not necessarily about where they're made. They're about the modern labor practices and standards that Mattel enforces (or doesn't) with their workforce worldwide.
Is it just the way that the camera is picking up the color, or are her face and body really mismatched? I feel like Mattel should get someone from the action figure side of things to look at the articulation in Barbie's body. That's why Integrity's articulation is so successful and looks pretty even naked - Alain has an action figure background, so there's more of an understanding how to make articulation work and look good, too. My one plus on the doll is that her boots/pantyhose are super cute (I'd love IT to do the same thing since I don't collect Barbie anymore and have been only IT for several years now)
That's a great recommendation! Her articulation is just so gross. What they did to poor Barbie is just beyond horrible. I don't see a color difference in her head and body outside of these bright lights but it's possible that there could be. At this point, anything's possible with Mattel.

note to mattel: teenagers are not the target for this specific line of dolls, but bright monochrome outfits was all over the runways in 2018, then all over instagram. and barbie collectors tend to be people from +30 years old.
Wow I did not know the waist also twists. I thought it was just a seam or something, because it doesn't seem to twist and I'm afraid it might break. Thanks for showing us.

with moschino it works because it's taking something small and cute, nostalgic, typically " girly" etc and exaggerating it and subverting it to make it couture while still being self aware that it's absolutely kitsch - this def feels like it's going for that in reverse and not quite working
I totally agree. It looked great in Robert Best's sketches and in the promo photos that were retouched to death. IRL it falls flat and comes across cheap.

Suresh! I really like your barbie reviews,you're actually the best of the kind when it comes to a doll review 😂 Although I think you're a little bit picky,especially with this girl! She is amazing,the construction of the purse,the skirt,the fabrics..I know we as collectors always want more and more details,but I study fashion design and believe me; these pieces are so difficult to be made and crafted. The workers at mattel are superheros!! So we should consider that as well....
These pieces are not that hard to make. Mattel owns multiple factories and pioneered this type of work back in the day. If you look back at Barbie's history through the years, she had much more detail and intricacy in her clothes and accessories. Ruth Handler would die if she saw this. I studied fashion design, too, and worked in luxury fashion for years. This is not fashion. And this is a disgrace to the Barbie heritage, especially the Silkstone collection. That's why I'm being picky.
Glad I didn't get that doll. Honestly for me it was the eyebrows, they weren't traditional enough, especially since it's an anniversary doll. But that hair.... loved that hair.

She's too much for me too. At the very least she could have had a few accessories that were light pink. Plus she has the 1959 face style (probably for the anniversary) which I've always had have the same opinion of as my mother; too aggressive looking. I'd like to see Mattel bring back the late 60's/early 70's faces, with the wide eyes and blushing cheeks.

Oh no. Just didn't excite me as much as I hoped. I love the silkstone dolls usually. But this one just didn't work. I do have the Verushka silkstone and I LOVE LOVE her.

I passed on this one mainly because it was just too monochrome. I had the same issue with the Chic City Suit in 2017, although in that instance, the blue outfit was less garish. I'm not sure why, but Proudly Pink makes me think more of playline Barbies than collector Barbies. Possibly, it's the excessive amount of pink - I'm always referring to the Barbie section in stores as the "Pepto-Bismol aisle" because of all the pink, pink, pink. And as for the velcro...! In a collector doll? That's really disappointing. Mattel takes (yet another) step down the quality ladder. I'm definitely looking forward to the restyling. I know you'll do a fantastic job!
Doesn't it seem like they're telling all their playline fans to come and get in the collector tub? As if our high price points mean nothing and our wish for quality means nothing. I'm all for democratizing Barbie but yea, this is just such a slap in the face for the collector community. xoxo

I like the idea of a pink Silkstone, but the velcro turns me off. I like that the shoes are not fully plastic I guess, but like you said she is like the basic black one. This is why I'm sticking with East 59th from IT. Same era, but the articulation is better and the original Silkstone body clothes fit them.

It looks like Mattel is shifting its audience from the serious fashion doll collector to mass produced-looking dolls. I am only saying this because it seems -- and said with a deep sigh -- I am no longer its audience. I read recently that the Barbie Business is doing very well. A good sign after so many years of being seen as a business going down and as a brand that is slowly falling into the cobwebs of our past. That shift seems to be evident with what they have chosen to release. I see a lot of effort to make the brand relevant, inclusive, inspiring (all these dolls about women achievers in history).
Beyond all those valid efforts of brand and business building, I think a 60th anniversary Barbie deserved better attention. After all it is a 60th Anniversary! And after all she is still one of the most powerful brands associated with women of all ages. Iconic. I mean Warhol doing Barbie. Barbie on the cover of Time. But after having proven their mettle in doing the most astonishing fashion dolls in Silkstones and tie-ups with global Signature brands it comes down to this. No, Barbara Millicent Roberts, this is not you at your celebratory best. At least this is not the way I've come to know you. Perhaps Mattel Barbie's move is based on valid consumer research. Perhaps it's trying to own today's child's aspirations again. A relevant doll companion for growing up avoiding the trap, and the consequent backlash of being a brand that cues wrong body imaging etc. With great blonde power comes great responsibility and 60 years means she has to have more wisdom and live up to that. Therefore, I congratulate them in that regard. And yes, Suresh, perhaps you're right...it's done. I am still focusing on other Barbie dolls done before this business of shifting seemed to happen. I personally felt they left me a serious Barbie collector behind. = (

I was very disappointed in the quality. Then I found out that the doll was made in Indonesia! No wonder the eye liner on my doll was so rough! How about yours?
What exactly are you insinuating? Mattel has owned massive manufacturing plants in Indonesia since the 1990s. Barbie has always been made in either Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand or China. Some of my most beautiful dolls came from the Indonesian factory. These quality issues as of late are not necessarily about where they're made. They're about the modern labor practices and standards that Mattel enforces (or doesn't) with their workforce worldwide.

Is it just the way that the camera is picking up the color, or are her face and body really mismatched? I feel like Mattel should get someone from the action figure side of things to look at the articulation in Barbie's body. That's why Integrity's articulation is so successful and looks pretty even naked - Alain has an action figure background, so there's more of an understanding how to make articulation work and look good, too.
My one plus on the doll is that her boots/pantyhose are super cute (I'd love IT to do the same thing since I don't collect Barbie anymore and have been only IT for several years now)
That's a great recommendation! Her articulation is just so gross. What they did to poor Barbie is just beyond horrible. I don't see a color difference in her head and body outside of these bright lights but it's possible that there could be. At this point, anything's possible with Mattel.
