Fortnite announced that their cosmetics will no longer display rarity. This means that whether in the item shop or your locker, you will no longer be able to determine the value of a cosmetic based on it's colored rarity. Was this a step in the right direction for Fortnite, or is this a sign of something more sinister?

To me this seems like an easy excuse to make skins more expensive. Since nothing has a rarity who's to say how much it can cost since there is no more standard for that "tier" of skin. Imo I could see them bringing back skins that were at an Epic rarity but selling them at the price of a previous Legendary skin rarity to make a few extra bucks. Epic has been greedy lately, that showed with the Midas event, and they are def doing something sketchy with this. They wouldn't devolve the locker, AFTER promising to upgrade it, without any specific reason in mind other than to just do it.
How did their greed show in the Midas event?

@@Klarque_Clint By bringing back an extremely popular character and implied he would have a part in the storyline going forward, obviously pushing skin sales which made them tons of money, only for them to reverse all of the Midas stuff shortly after and remove the character from the game, and effectively the story once again, after doing nothing. They only brought him back to make a quick buck, not because they want to actually do anything with the story.
To me, the rarity colors were nice and added more color to the locker. As well as organization of my skins.
Also I especially despise this for emotes. The random garbage sprays and emoticons used to all be contained down at the bottom in the uncommon rarity, but now they’re spread out and clogging up the whole locker. This update just serves to make the locker system even more inefficient, something I didn’t even think was possible after the horrid UI changes at the start of the chapter.

In my fortnite locker why can't I move my presets around instead of deleting them and remaking them?

Also for a game with nearly 2000 skins at this point, we NEED to have more than just 100 presets available to us. I have hundreds of skins/characters I want to be able to make presets for and use but can’t because for some reason Epic is limiting us, all while selling us more and more overpriced skins to fill up our lockers and collect dust because they don’t make the top 100 cut.

BTW bucks changed rarity from legendary to rare (blue) in save the world. But besides that detail removing rarity isn't a good idea for the battle pass because all the skins having the same rarity means that the tier 1 skin has the value as the 100 which is not the case and second point it always was a part of fortnite even if fortnite isn't just br it doesn't mean that they have to remove ever br thing that made that game unique. Even little things like rarity mean something for most of the community. I hope that epic will reconsider some of their choice about the changes they made to the game in the last few months that changed its identity
Tbf, the tier 1 skins often have the same value as a tier 100 even with the system, for example, drift and ragnarok

I’m not understanding your logic?Would all the skins in the battle pass still not be worth 9.99? Having a color behind the skin doesn’t change the actual price value of it. Just as people are saying they did this to justify the 2000 for the new avatar skins, as if it being labeled legendary would all the sudden make it a good price. This logic is silly, color rarities don’t matter, just buy what you want if you feel it’s priced at what you’re willing to pay

Sure rarity is useless but when it was around lockers looked much cleaner and the player can scroll and find the outfit they wanna use easily, now it’s just messy.

I think it gave more personality to the cosmetics. I'll just speak with my wallet and not buy skins anymore.
I feel like this is stupid, they should never remove rarity’s because let’s say your trying to find the superhero skins, you always remember it as legendary but now it’s not and that.

I 100% guarantee the main reason they’re doing this is so they can get away with making cosmetics more expensive. Now people can’t complain about what is clearly an epic rarity skin being priced at 1800 v-bucks with no back bling, because it’s just an outfit now, no classifications. It can be priced at whatever arbitrary (likely high) number Epic decides.

Like honestly the only instances I’ve seen this happen is that hael skin, and don’t even bring up the avatar skins, you know very well that there’s 8 days until they aren’t coming back ever, 2000 for a one in a lifetime collab skin- no, a PACK,is a killer deal. Even in the instances that this does happen, it’s with skins you’d never buy anyway. Good price or not, are you actually buying that hael skin?

You’re saying we can’t complain about things being overpriced because we aren’t being forced to buy them? You’re allowed to criticize poor decisions, or just things you don’t agree with. It might impact the pricing, but that isn't my main issue. My issue is that it completely destroyed the organization in my locker. I never cared about rarity but it was a nice way to sort/filter cosmetics out and without it we just have less options to filter stuff out in an already horrendous locker design. Just my 2 cents.

Feels like this was done to increase prices across the board. More annoying changes and more confusion. I hope we still have 800 vbuck skins in the future going forward. So many good ones. This just makes sorting more annoying too. 😑 Like the avatar stuff should be 1500 each not 2000, but they do have pickaxes included, so maybe that's why the increase. 😅 the rarity stuff alwasy was kinda redundant as far as actual rarity, but it seemed to help with pricing or categorization somewhat.
Nope, usually epic skins with backbling and, pickaxe are 1600 to 1800 depending weather the skin has built in emote or not. You’re exactly right.

For me I used rarity as a sorting system especially since the messed up the locker UI with it being rarity and then alphabetical.

as you said. this is stripping away part of fortnite's identity. i didnt care for rarities because it was simply always there but now that they took it away i appreciate it more and realise what it means to have it.
Honestly, they just need to organize the locker UI into a much better form than what it currently is. The color rarity is really not that big of a deal. The community is just overreacting just like with every little thing.
The problem in what's not being mentioned here is that rarities are attached to the price. This is why everyone's leery right now because the fact that rarities are gone epic can continue making the most insane prices on cosmetics
Very odd decision for SURE. Personally think a LOT of people are overreacting however they needed to make this change alongside a MAJOR change to the UI so it wasnt so confusing and janky.

I think it didn't help us at all, most of the times I found some emotes or items because I remembered its rarity if you have a big collection any reference is a good reference and losing one is not good at all
What I don't understand is that Epic's reason for doing this is to simplify the cosmetics for all modes, implying that they didn't think the rarity system was simple..?
The prices becomes more and more unjustified. Especially, after you see ATLA skins for 2000 v-bucks, with 1 style, 1 back bling and 1 pickaxe, when, for example, we have Azuki, which has a bundle with 2 pickaxes, 2 back blings and skin itself has 5 styles. And considering all that, the bundle costs only 1800 v-bucks. So these new skins are just cash grabs, that should cost 1400 v-bucks at most, but Epic decided otherwise
We could never see the ATLA skins again. That adds exclusivity to the mix. That is why they’re priced so high.
Also I wouldn’t imagine characters this iconic from such a valuable ip would ever be allowed to sell that low. When they’re making deal with these companies, ofc they want their skins to have the highest price, they’d be getting more profit

The worst thing Fortnite ever did was change the locker UI. It’s unusable now and has completely ruined the accessibility of the skins we all payed for. I can’t find my stuff anymore, I can’t easily set locker presets anymore. It takes me 10 minutes to do a task that used to take me 2 minutes to do. I hardly even buy skins anymore because I feel like I’m wasting money now that it’s more of a hassle to even use the damn things. I just want them to change the locker back! I quit playing the game for the past 7 months just because of the locker UI. I’m trying to play now for the Marvel crossover but the locker is seriously pissing me off and making me want to quit again.

I think that rarity is the glue of our lockers. We already have god awful locker systems and this is not helping. Again the rumor now of certain Disney skins can’t hold guns is just so dumb. I thought they learned when skin restrictions were universally hated. But I guess not, if we can’t see these things in chapter 6 then I honestly see no future in people collecting cosmetics like before.

I don't mind it in my opinion plus the "Sort and Filter" option regularates your locker to either Seasons, Rarities, or Alphabetical order. I could possibly seeing content creators and users using the setting after this

It's actually a big deal because now they can price skins that belong in the uncommon category at a high price and make it 1500 as if it were rare. It will make the prices go up and the quality won't match the price.
They've also ruined the entire game's UI in general.
Tbh I would care if I had a lot of skins to begin with. I only have about 130 so there isn’t much of a problem for me but I can see why people would be mad. Since everything is so scattered now it’s harder to find. And now emotes and sprays are conjoined into one area it’s confusing to look at. Hopefully epic reverts this cause it doesn’t really change anything short term.

ever since i started playing fortnite, i thought the rarity system was weird. still do. me and a friend saw common/uncommon rarity skins costing more in v-bucks than a legendary.epic rarity skins. even saw skins that dont have nothing else like a style or reaction of some sort while skins that do have a reaction or a style or two cost less.
if the rarity meant more than i would see the point in the system. like have most legendary skins be skins from battle passes as those outfits of the characters can't come back but the characters themselves can. currently, most battle pass skins are epic with some being legendary. shouldn't the best rarity tag be a part of skins that will rarely or ever come back?
if the uncommon/common skins literally don't have much if anything else, like a style or reaction apart of them costing the less amount of v bucks. then u have rare which would have a style, backbling, or reaction to them. epic would have more than one attached to them u=when u buy just the skin. i have seen a backbling come with a skin even if u buy the bundle the skin comes with.
its funny how ppl think epic might now raise v bucks prices on skins with rarity gone. no, it won't. if epic wanted to charge more v bucks for ppl, they will do it regardless. if a common/uncommon skin is something ppl want, they will raise v bucks prices for the skins as thats gonna make them money.
