    This week I sat down with Gary, the owner/operator of Ford Audio Service. We've been friends for a few years, and I've always admired his work. In this video, we talk about what it takes to work in the event industry and how we each got started, despite our seemingly opposite lines of work and lifestyle.

    The amount of respect I have for both you and Gary is hard to put into words. I maybe wasn't quite as young once I got thrown a PA to run but at my high school I was pulled out of class just to hook up systems and make sure shows could go on. In just 5 years I went from being a sophomore in high school throwing together what ever system I had available to me to learning MA in a matter of days because our lighting designer required a double knee replacement surgery. You Christian have been a lot of my inspiration for wanting to learn lighting and event production as a whole and I appreciate seeing your videos.
    While now I am trusted in running Front of House, Systems, Monitors and Lighting Design for medium to large scale concerts its forcing a decision for what I want to specialize in. I love audio as its where I began in the industry but lighting at least in my current state feels like I get more creative freedom and have more options in terms of control during a show. Bands expect a certain sonic signature after so long and eventually view that as their iconic sound. Lighting I feel allows me to diversify. Maybe a band gives me a color pallet to work from and I go from there or maybe the touring FOH gives me cues. But, in most cases I am allowed to do my own thing. Maybe one of these days when I am not busy and we get through this virus I can actually come see one of your concerts in person. Again you guys are awesome and keep it up!

See you guys, were you got and that on pretty match the same lane that I'm on right now giving me a hope to continue work hard and not give up.

    Thanks for giving the 'straight talk' on both of your backgrounds prior to "hitting the big time". As someone who's been on the fence for jumping into the live-event "pursuing your dreams" kind of thing for almost a decade now, its been really refreshing to hear of the familiarly humble beginnings of both of your enterprises. Nobody talks about the 20-hour days done because it's what you wanted to do, and the dedication and genuine enthusiasm it requires to really make a go of a job in the industry... so thanks to both of you for being so frank and open about the formative experiences that led to your current trajectories. It gives small-timers like me hope that we can achieve that, if we put our minds to it! (And are willing to do load-in and load-out solo for those awkward first gigs... It's good to know that isn't uncommon or misguided, at least for the first few breaks!)

    Hey super Video...👍🏻
    I started with "I don't know what I should do." => and I end with "Why is it that short"
    Thanks for sharing (and making) these videos...
    You are something like an idol for me... not because you are the "MA-console God"... It's because you help so many people for free and you spend so much of your Time for this... so I only want to say:
    "THANK YOU!"
    With the help of your videos I started with the GrandMA2 Software 3 years ago...
    And now I work as an Operator at so many places, from Clubs to Festivals, from 50 to 10.000 people... I had never thought of this and it's like a perfect dream, but when you wake up every morning this perfect dream continues...
    Without your videos I would never have been able to reach this...
    It is a dream of mine... I could imagine that there are a lot of people who ask you to follow them, so I can understand if the answer will be a no... But for this small chance for a yes. "May you follow me on Instagramm?" (Nico_Weiberg)

    Is there a lighting gear rental network like l acoustics?

    • @christianjackson
      @christianjackson  4 роки тому

      Not quite. At least not brand specific. There are large lighting companies that have large inventories of fixtures etc across the world. Companies like PRG, Christie lites, LMG, 4 wall etc all have big networks of gear for lighting but nothing really manufacturer specific.
