Finally gonna be able to pick up an original metro bar for my old metro car. Getting excited to get it. Have wanted one for a long while one of my favorite bars
@@AdamsLights yep! Super happy about it. I'll be converting it to white pods so I don't have the red and blues while driving. I've been told by a metro officer that I shouldn't get bothered driving around like that so hopefully everything goes well. Im in the vision vector group on Facebook so ill be posting soon.
That's sweet! I live in Las Vegas, and I have always wanted one of the Metro Vision SL bars, but I can't find anyone who is willing to sell them to me for a reasonable price. I envy you sir!
Very Sweet. Always wanted one of those. And I am about two and a half hours north of Vegas. And yeah not having TD and alleys at the same time is a bad. I use them together all the time when on patrol. And now days, after using LED bars, LEDs have come a long way its the only thing I trust on the side of Highway 95. But nothing beats a slow headlight flasher :) Keep up the videos. I made a Super Smart Vector, I added two extra smart pods and another board to a Smart Vector. But I never got around to finishing it. It was about 6 years ago, still have the bar. I made it to be able to have rear set up like CHP with two rear OSC lights. I then cut the power wire to the motor of the center pod so it would stay steady burn to the front.
Steady now, way too much coffee. I picked up two bars some time ago, and I thought they were both the same. I just spent a few days working on one of them, a Vector bar. I needed a couple of bulbs so I went out to my shop and climbed into the rafters to rob a couple off the other bar. I pulled the cover off the end pod and noticed it was a smart pod. I excitedly jumped up to the next step on the ladder so I could see the label. It's a vision bar. Oh boy. When I pull this down on Monday I think I'm gonna have some questions.
Okay just shaky. So I pulled the vision bar down. Bad news. The data cable was cut, and all the wires were stripped. I would bet that some moron has applied 12 volts to every data lead. I don't have anything to control this bar, so I won't be able to check it out any time soon. Enjoyed your video. Thanks.
I just got a set of basic vectors, and I wanna convert them to Smart Vectors, because why not. I know I need the Smart Pod Controls, but I’m not sure what else I’ll need. Could you run me through it?
Not only do you need the smart controller, but you have to replace the control board for every pod. It's a lot of work, and a LOT easier to just find a Vision lightbar.
Likely your best bet is eBay.... although there are also a TON of Facebook groups, Craigslist, etc, etc. as well that might help you out. There are FB groups dedicated to JUST this bar!
I've seen some Vision lightbars that can do both takedown and alley functions at the same time (with Pod's 3 and 5 being the designated takedowns and Pod's 1 and 7 doing alley's with cut-out filter lenses)
That's interesting, it must have been a custom, department-specific bar that Federal Signal programmed. As standard, Pods 1 and 7 are never used as TD's or Alley Lights. Standard programming dictates that TD's can be Pods 2/6, 3/5, or 4, while Alleys are 2,3,4 (left), and 4,5,6 (right). There have been times when departments requested specific things from Federal Signal for their departments. For instance, in Las Vegas, LVMPD had it so all of the pods homed to the front, with the exception of Pods 2 and 6, which homed in the Alley position. Some people just like to be different. Thanks for watching!
- The Vision Lightbar should have 3 wires come out of it... red, black, and a CAT5. The red goes to the positive on your Power Supply, the black goes to the negative on your power supply, and the CAT5 cable (standard RJ45 network cable), connects to the brain. - The brain box also connect to the keypad via a 4-conductor telephone wire. MAKE SURE it's 4-conductor, and not 2. - The brain box has a white, 12-pin mass connector that says "Siren". It's NOT just the siren. Out of that connector, pin #4 goes to ground (negative), and pin #6 goes to positive. If you use the relays of the brain box, you also need to connect the LARGE red wire to the power supply, directly from the back of the brain where is says "+BAT". Once you get all of that together, you should be good to power it up. As soon as you power up, the keypad will let out a 2-second BEEP, and the lightbar will re-home the rotators. After that, it should be good to go. If the keypad starts flashing/beeping within 5 seconds after powerup, something still isn't connected correctly.
3:11 - I know it wouldn’t be identical to LV Metro, BUT, if you had a clear center, could you use that as a single takedown and then have 2 and 6 as alleys/rear flashers/additional TDs? Random, I know, but just wondering…
Hello! I have an ACTUAL LVMPD Vision bar that is set up correctly. Also, you can’t program the brain like that, so I wouldn’t be able to have 2/4/6 as TD’s. I’ve actually changed the color combo of this bar since this video was taken too…. Check out my new stuff…. And thanks for watching!
I tried to program my bar but the patterns I enter are not staying programmed in and the center pod I added only works sometimes I hooked it to the plug on the board that had the jumper wire on it do you know of anything else I can do to get this bar working right
It really depends on where the bar came from. For instance, if you have an older Las Vegas Metro Vision, whose center pod was originally a 3rd party Opticom, there is no programming for the center pod in the brain, as LVMPD has theirs specifically made for them from Federal Signal. I had issues with mine note remember the patterns too... but then it seemed to fix itself. Not sure what the issue was.
Yessir, there are actually a few of us lightbar guys here in Vegas! Check out some of my newer videos, I've gotten a lot more new toys since this video was made!
Hi Adam. I have one exactly like yours except with the traffic advisor. One question, how did you get your pod 4 to work after you switched out the opticom wiring? I put in a smart pod and wiring but the pod doesn't move. It moves slightly on reset but that's it. The light works fine. Thanks for your help. This is a cool bar and I will be happy once I get everything working.
eyamane actually, mine never had the opticom in the center pod- it's always had the center rotator. I'm not sure what's causing the issue in your bar though. Sorry I couldn't be more help!
One thing. Fed Sig states in their siren manuals is never run the siren without the speaker as it can cause damage. I'm not entirely sure how it does, but if they say so then they have seen it.
You're probably right, and it most likely has something to do with overloading the capacitors. This was just during testing, and I have since mounted this on my collection wall, and have added a siren speaker. Thanks for looking out though!
Adam Ogden No problem. I have an older PA300 FS siren, and that's where the info came from. Hmm. Never thought about hte capacitors getting overloaded, but that makes sense. Any plans for a CTS Twin Sonic? That's a classic lightbar in my book.
I'd LOVE a CTS bar!! I am doing some work in Cali sometime in the next few weeks, and am hoping to score a few CA-spec older bars- it would be AWESOME if I found a CTS! Fingers crossed!
Good luck. If you can get two. One in the all red configuration with the amber flash (like on the TV show Emergency!) and the red/blue combo like in CHiPs.
If the smartpods are operating in the intersection sweep mode, and you want to change one or both to either alley or takedown mode, will the alley or takedown override the sweep pattern until you turn it back off?
I have the same bar with the white and blue reversed mine also has a traffic advisor. I'm looking to find the power supply. Being you have restored so many bars do you have any recommendations?
Thanks for viewing!! There are a couple on eBay right now for fairly cheap. You can also try looking at www.elightbars.org.... a Forum/Trading site for people who collect and/or use lightbars regularly. Thanks again!!
Is there anywhere I can get replacement vision nameplate stickers? Also is it possible to have the middle pod also be a takedown Making it 3 takedown lights?
Not sure where you can get the nameplates. I would check the Facebook groups or eBay. And to answer your question.... No. I don't believe you can do the trio of TD lights.
@@vegascvpiaaron6807 Yeah, I've seen that too. It's either a new feature that is specific to the SLR, OR LVMPD had Federal Signal do it for them custom. on the older bars, LVMPD had them specifically program the white lights to default to the side, rather than the front... so who knows.
@@AdamsLights hm interesting. Well thanks again. On a different note do you know how to enable the beep every 10 seconds when a function is on for the vison like the smart siren has?
Also fed signal said it would do the glitching out because the smart siren is looking for a lightbar but there is not one connected? they said when i hook a light bar up it will fix it. What do ya think
They are right. The brain and the lightbar talk to each other over the cat5 cable, so the beeping indicates that there is something wrong with the communication.. in your case- there is no bar. The very second you plug in a lightbar, the beeping will stop, and you will be good to go.
I just got a pile of these at a yard sale and am waiting for the controller to arrive. I have not been able to find any specs on the cable pinout from the siren brain to the bar. Can you tell me if it is straight through or a crossover cable?

My problem is that I am clueless about what else I need other than the bar itself. The wiring is intact for the most part, but I don't know a thing about what sort of power source to use, what controllers are needed, etc. Any advice at all that you could lend would be much appreciated, or if there are other resources I can tap into I'd be happy to read up as much as I can. +Adam Ogden If its possible, I too would like to know what i need and how to set up my vector to use household power, I am under the impression that I need a 120v to 12v converter as well as an amplifier, I do not have a control box, but I understand that I could just touch certain wires to the main power wire I think in order to change functions. Thanks for taking the time to read this!
Hey Adam,. Love your set up!, I have the same vision controller with the traffic advisor, and i'am trying to set up mine.. I have all the parts,. .the controller, amplifier, pigtail, but im having trouble locating how to hook it all up,.. I have the programing manuel, but not the wiring manuel,.. I was wondering if you'd help me out with the wiring on this bad boy?
Yeah, It can be pretty complicated. Are you using the controller for anything else, or JUST the bar? Meaning, extra lights, etc. Also, do you have a siren that you are using with it?
@@AdamsLights Hi, I'm in need of that wiring manuel and I was wondering if you'd pass it onto me? If so you can send it too (bdelong1961@hotmail.com) that would be awesome! Thanks.
I have three power supplies, all of which are Tripp Lite. I have two 60-amp versions, and one 40-amp version. Each PSU runs 2-3 bars each, depending on how power-hungry the bars are.
Im trying, my man. Right now my collection is packed up and in storage, but i've continued to collect even while in storage. When it comes back out, it'll be bigger and better than ever.... stay tuned!!!!
Technically, I believe the answer is yes.... I have switched out the halogen bulbs in a couple other lightbars I have, with cool results. The thing that would make me nervous about doing that in THIS bar specifically, is that when you change the halogen bulbs to LED, is changes the voltage draw for the bar. Since this one has the brains built in, I would be nervous that too much change in the current/voltage regulation would fry and/or damage the brain itself, rendering it un-usable.
Thanks, that's what I was worried about as well. I'm looking at buying one here soon that I believe is just the original vector with no brain to it. If that's the case I'd like to LED swap the bulbs in it and do a before and after video :)

fiaz shah www.craigslist.org www.elightbars.org www.ebay.com www.publicsurplus.com www.govdeals.com There are also several different groups on Facebook who Buy/Sell/Trade lightbars
just a couple more things. From your own perspective, do you think that the price of american federal light bars is increasing? i want to know because there is no way i can get one for another couple of years. the problem here in the UK is that none of the police light bars are ever made available to the public but the sites you suggested have police departments selling them in bulk!. wish it was like that here. know i know how it is people have crates and crates of light bars in their videos.
I have several if you if you are looking for one. let me know if you are interested, I also have a intact opticom as well as the new LED traffic adviser bars they are running..
If I use it, and enjoy it, then why is it a waste? It would be a waste in a landfill. The fact that I restored it, cleaned it, programmed it all myself, and have it on the wall with 25 other bars, is something I'm pretty proud of.... so I don't really see it as a waste at all. Thanks for watching, though!

Seluryar Check out my other videos; I have one that explains my power supply setup.
Adam, I finally uploaded a video of my vision in use and a slo mo of the center out rotating pattern
Cool! Make sure you check out some of my newer videos- I've gotten a lot of new toys!
I have the same as you the full visor light bar, and siren,. It's for the man cave, and I'd love to get it hooked up... any input would be great!
what email can i send the document to?
You can send it too,. klaffke14@hotmail.com Awsome Thanx much!!
@@AdamsLights Hi, I'm in need of that wiring manuel and I was wondering if you'd pass it onto me? If so you can send it too (bdelong1961@hotmail.com) that would be awesome! Thanks.
I'm looking to pick up this controller bit can it be used with modern led light bars or is it specific to the vision?
This controller is specific to the Vision bar, however the SmartSiren is the "genetic" version for any bar.
What kind of power supply are you using to run your light bars?
I have three power supplies, all of which are Tripp Lite. I have two 60-amp versions, and one 40-amp version. Each PSU runs 2-3 bars each, depending on how power-hungry the bars are.
Awesome-thanks!
Hi this is the light bar I'm looking to buy. Can you recommend where I can get hold of one please?.
I would search Craigslist, eBay, or my personal favorite.... www.elightbars.org. You'll be hooked :)
Dalak are you still looking for one of these Vision lightbar? I recently purchased one from lvmpd with all the accessories.
Kay- did you happen to get any of their Vision SL bars (with the static LEDs)?? I would be very interested, and live in LV too.
Adam- Not yet the Vision SL bars are still in use and have not been offered to me yet.
if you ever come across one, PLEASE let me know. Now that they are switching to the new SLR, the Vision SL's will start coming off soon.
When will you have a new video coming up
Im trying, my man. Right now my collection is packed up and in storage, but i've continued to collect even while in storage. When it comes back out, it'll be bigger and better than ever.... stay tuned!!!!
Can you put LED bulbs in place of the halogens in these?
Hey what are you using as your power supply? I'm looking for a 110 to 12v converter
Hello! I have a whole video on my Power Supplies. Check out my channel to see all of my videos, including the one that explains how I power up my whole rig.
You need to find a 1st gen controller with out the slide switch
Why?
Why not. I think most who had them tossed them when the slide switch came out
where to buy?
I've answered that numerous times in the comment thread. Please feel free to scroll through the comments to find the answer you are looking for. Thanks for watching!!
Cool set up, could you do some videos on how to connect and wire the smart siren?
Hi, thanks for the comment. I will try to make a video showing how to wire them up. I have had a request to show how to program, so I will probably do that one first. If you have specific questions, feel free to send me a message, and I can try to help. Thanks for watching!!
Some of those light Bars have an orange arrow stick in the back to direct traffic when on the Side of the road
You are correct! I now have two of the VIsion bars, and the second one I have DOES have the traffic advisor. I also have an MX7000 that has the TA as well. Thanks for watching!!
No thanks for awnsering back most people don,t even awnser these days when ever I comment in a vid and great video!
why would it need a phone cord?
+Texas Rebel It uses a phone cable to connect the brain to the control pad.
+Adam Ogden ahhhh ok gotcha! I wondered why that was used. Thank Adam! great vid, please make more!
hello where is connect the negative and positive?
I dont quite understand your question...
Sorry, we are repairing a Federal Signal Vector, but do not know from where the negative and positive to test the console with a battery, could help us?
Because the console says "Bat +" and no more connections.
The red line goes to the "+", and the black line goes to the "-". Any other lines fire off specific features, which also go to the "+" terminal.
woow cool
Thanks! I totally agree!! :)
@@AdamsLights we don't even have a smart flasher in Russia, or something like that
I think its a california spec bar
Its not. The CA spec bar doesnt have a rotator in the center pod. Only a steady, front-facing lamp.
@@AdamsLights Thanks for the info, It really helps.
do you sell any light bars
Not at this time.
I like them.. look like rocks, is sitting on car...
Thanks for watching!
Hi I just bought the same bar on ebay and I cant find instructions on how to program the different flash patterns can you help me please
Thanks Kathy! Try this link- www.fedsig.com/docs/255273.pdf. If that doesn't work, feel free to message me, and I can call you and talk you through it. It's kinda weird, but once you get used to it, you can blaze right through it.
Adam Ogden Hahaha sorry my name is John I'm using my wife's account. I looked over the instruction page you sent me and I was able to figure out the flash patterns that I want. I did not get my lightbar yet I should have it by Jan 2nd. I don't think I'll be able to figure out how to program it with out your help though atleast for the first one. I love your lightbar collection especially the areo dynic. I have a 1969 dodge charger redone as the General Lee.. If you could give me your phone number, I'll call you when my lightbar comes after I set it up and I'm ready to program. By the way what are you using to power your lightbars?
***** Oh gotcha. I will send you a message with my phone number. Thanks for watching!
are these expensive?
fiaz shah It depends. They go from anywhere between $100-$300, depending on who you are buying them from. There are also several versions... Vector, Smart Vector, Vision, Vision SL, Vision SLR, etc.
i cant see to find many at those price ranges. do you have any recommendations.

thanks
just a couple more things. From your own perspective, do you think that the price of american federal light bars is increasing? i want to know because there is no way i can get one for another couple of years. the problem here in the UK is that none of the police light bars are ever made available to the public but the sites you suggested have police departments selling them in bulk!. wish it was like that here. know i know how it is people have crates and crates of light bars in their videos.
cool
Thanks! Make sure you check out some of my newer videos- I've gotten a lot of new toys!
Belle rampe 👍 ma préférée 👍 👍
Thanks!
I have several if you if you are looking for one. let me know if you are interested, I also have a intact opticom as well as the new LED traffic adviser bars they are running..
Drop_Dead_ Radar how much$?
Drop_Dead_ Radar not sure how I missed this, sorry! What do you have?
That's an awesome lightbar but it's a waste of a lightbar if it just stays hanging on a wall.
I sure can use your help getting my Vision sp light bar working, I think i trouble is how to wire it up. Can i give you my number or can i call you ? Or how about a e-mail address ?
Hi Gary! I made another video that gives you step-by-step instructions on how to get your Vision bar up and running. I will leave a link for you here. Check out that video, and let me know if you still need help. Thanks for watching!!

Not pretty
Just curious, why do you say that?
@@AdamsLights 😁😁
ali 99999 so you just kidding?
@@AdamsLights You keep being creative👍👍
That’s a vector
Negative sir, that is a Vision. A Vector was the precursor to the Vision, and had no intelligent functionality to it.
Thanks for watching!
@@AdamsLights yeah, I just got 13 Vectors and didn't realize how cool visions are
