Love these. It used to be only Insteon had these kind of multi button devices until the zooz came out. I sold my Insteon stuff the instant I realize I would never rely on cloud again. I had implemented the nsp panel to replace the Insteon buttons but at the end of the day the zooz is truly a direct replacement (minus the dimming).
I had an Insteon keypad dimmer in this spot previously. I found I never dimmed my lights anyway, and some LED bulbs were flaky with Insteon dimmers even if I only used full brightness. Bottom line, I don’t miss it.
Wow... first, that's impressive. Second, mind boggeling how you even found this thing/switch. One would assume the default to be on 'on when on', perhaps they'll change it later, who knows what the engineer/programmer was thinking of a scenario when they programmed it that way. I am impressed, certainly with the topics and gadgets you come up with. I am not an engineer, but a programmer, have setup servers, etc. but yesterday was trying to set up a smart plug (Kasa) for my deck lights and I couldn't believe I got stuck on a supposed simple step. That is, in order to have the plug get your wifi, you needed an extra step in between, which drove me NUTS! On my Settings/wifi, I had to pick that plug... and then it would let me connect to it. One would think, this step would lead you automatically (popup) to sign the gadget into your wifi, but no. Perhaps, I have a problem with instructions/manuals dunno. Hands down, applauds to you. Thank you for your smart videos!
I am also a programmer! Or at least I was in my early career. Now in an IT PMO. Not as much fun. Are you a Home Assistant user? I love programming home automations. It’s addictive for people like us.
@@handydadtv I stay away from too much automation in the house, just due to the fact that I don't want to drive people crazy. It is fun though. Let's say, when you walk into the kitchen and your ambiance lights go on, or your shopping list with Alexa you can access from anywhere, or your irrigation system in the backyard is automated, etc. Now with the ring cameras, etc. It can get addictive to no end. I only take a step towards convenience if I think there is a better solution than just pulling the plug or pushing a button😁. It's almost sickening ... 😄
Very well done video! I just got started using Home Assistant and have been trying to figure out what switches to use around the house. You made my decision an easy one!
@@handydadtv I''m the same. The brand isn't as important to me as the functionality. That scene controller should be perfect for setting up buttons to control my pool/hot tub.
I love this wall switch have had mine for almost a year now, replaced the old dumb switch with this one next to my front door. Have it controlling my lights outside (main button) my front door smart lock, my outdoor siren, and a light in the living room and one in the kitchen. I use 2 HA blueprints which makes it super easy to set up both the button automations and light states they are made by a person called halomademeapc look for zen32 and find his blueprints.
Looks like the perfect switch. Guess I need to figure out what Z-wave and Home Assistant are now. Was hoping to stick with simple Matter/HK products, but can’t find anything like this.
I have a couple of Zooz switches and I am happy with them. Their contact sensors are garbage I have not been able to figure out why. I am not sure if it is a z-wave issue or a sensor issue. Thinking about trying out some Zigbee devices.
I like how you made the scene controller light indicator light up weather the devices on or off even when controlled from a different device, is it possible to achieve this setup through the aeotec smartthings hub?
I setup Homebridge to get my Unifi Cameras into Homekit... Clearly I should have used Home Assistant as it would add a TON more options for my smart home.
Hey Chris, it's been a little over a year. Do you still love this switch? Any issues with it (staying connected, working properly, etc.)? Keep up the great work!
I moved in January and brought all my smart devices with me. That Zooz scene controller is installed in my kitchen. Yes I still love it. It’s shown in this video: ua-cam.com/video/V8ILI4SXojk/v-deo.html
Question, in your Indicator light automation what is the difference between "On when the load is on" and "Always on"? Not sure why you would use one vs the other? If you just used "On when the Load is on" (would it turn off when the light went off)? Could you get away with only 1 automation and not need the turn off when load is off automation?
Received it today. Set one of the buttons to automate my hot tub. Press the button hot tub starts and is set to 98° - status indicator is blue when Spa Temp < 90° - status indicator is Red when Spa Temp > 90°. Perfect automation right at the patio door!
While I was checking for support of this scene controller for my Homeseer setup I ran across some concerning information regarding cracking buttons. Maybe these issues have been resolved but apparently there may be a quality issue or possible design flaw. Probably worth some investigation.
On further research it looks like there was a redesign on the switches to include a rubber spacer to alleviate the issue. Chris, did yours have the black rubber spacer?
Does anyone know if I can replace a radio frequency remote for an led strip or Amazon light with this this? Basically I want this device to listen while I press the button on the remote and then have this replicate the signal and use this as a permanent light switch instead of a stupid remote
The main button can dim a light. Wire the light hot in the switch box, Install a mini-dimmer in the light fixture box, disable the relay, create your associations or automatons. Voila!
To stop flashing when changing led state: Change Parameter 23: Choose if you want the LED indicators to flash whenever a parameter (setting) is adjusted on the device to confirm the change. Disable this feature if you're using the LED indicators in automations. Values: 0 - LED indicators flash to confirm a setting change (default) ; 1 - LED indicators don't flash if a setting is changed. Size: 1 byte dec
Definitely make smarter Automations "When light state changes" action: IF "light off, disable indicator" else: "Enable indicator" - something like this... that way you have far fewer automations
being able to use multiple key presses is really cool! great video
Thanks. You can go crazy with all multi-press combinations. I just did the double-click on the garage button so nobody invokes it by accident.

I was thinking of the dimming too, which I have in my hallway and it wouldn't work with these buttons. Otherwise great little smart.
Thanks, I am just starting with HA. I couldn't figure out how to program the buttons on a zooz zen 37. You got me going.
Glad it was helpful 👍🏻

You don’t need Home Assistant to use Z-Wave. Hubitat and HomeSeer also support it.
@@handydadtv Is there one you’d recommend over the other for a HomeKit user? (A not so tech savvy one.)
a.co/d/2lEFu8n?tag=ha0d9f-20
This integrates with HomeKit so you can have the best of both worlds.
@@handydadtv Thank you, I will probably be buying that then. Greatly appreciate the responsiveness and willingness to help.
Thanks for the video! How do you program one of the buttons to TOGGLE a scene on and off?
Use the toggle action in Home Assistant, but it’s only available on certain devices.
Thanks for the video. So have you pulled the pin on Homeseer HS4?
Not necessarily. Just really kicking the tires on Home Assistant so I can fairly compare the two. I may try Hubitat next.

I have Zigbee smart plugs right now because they’re much cheaper than Z-Wave, but no switches at the moment.
What did you use to keep power to island lights and cabinet lights?
Three smart plugs for the cabinet lights, and a smart switch for the island.

That would work with the big button because it controls a load, but I have no idea what it means for the scene buttons.
Can this switch be used as a standalone scene controller? (not hardwiring you example light directly to the switch)
Yes. No need to use the relay.

I found a Blueprint that links devices so the button light always reflects the status of the controlled device.
