October 8, 2024 | Action to address climate and environmental challenges is a global and local priority, and religious organizations are involved at every step of the way. This webinar will set religious action in the context of the global response and especially the fast approaching summit of the G20 leaders in Rio de Janeiro. Mary Robinson, chair of the Elders and former President of Ireland, conveys this powerful call to common action.
Brazil’s G20 presidency has identified environmental sustainability as a priority area for the November 2024 G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro and launched the Task Force for the Global Mobilization Against Climate Change to connect governments, financial institutions, and international bodies in financing the implementation of global climate agreements. The G20 Interfaith Forum brings together a diverse network of religious inspired figures and organizations. It supports these efforts, with an emphasis on bridging the gap between global policy and the work of local religious and Indigenous communities. The Interfaith Rainforest Initiative (IRI) stands out for its work to identify solutions relevant to G20 leaders and local networks. This webinar will highlight the moral imperative to act on rainforests, the groundbreaking work of IRI in rainforest regions, and concrete steps to be taken at the November summit and beyond. In doing so it links the challenges facing global leaders on climate change and environmental protection to practical matters affecting local communities and highlights the actual and potential roles of religious communities.
