What's your favourite interview featuring David Niven on the channel?

I like the one with Cavett where he talks about his life in Hollywood. He describes his friendship with Errol Flynn and how they water ski'd in the Pacific ocean and Flynn (driving the boat) left him on skis out in the water to swim back a mile to shore and a shark came up near him. And where he tells Samuel Goldwyn (who gave him his first acting job in the movies) that he had disagreements with MGM and he might have to part ways and Goldwyn told him "as soon as you leave my office and are on the street you will have your wish" and he was fired. Interesting stuff.

David Niven and Joan Hackett? What a pairing! Love them both. A tremendously talented storyteller, Mr. Niven, and a hilariously talented actress, Ms. Hackett. I had no idea he was such a lovely man.

I didn't need yet another reason to love this elegant, talented man, but here it is.
Thanks to caring people like him, the Bald Eagle has not become extinct, but sadly many more animals are extinct or endangered.
I disagree with him about elephants, though. Better ways to manage herds other than allowing rich people kill them to flex their ability to own big guns that kill large animals.
It is true of animals like deer. They don't have enough natural predators now, so they risk diseases and starvation when they overpopulate. That's why we need to stop killing predators who cull the weak and old.
Two months ago, a huge mountain lion broke into my goats' pen and killed three of them before I got there with my rifle. I could have shot the lion, but fired my gun in the air to scare it away instead. I'm living in it's home, and it was here first and there aren't that many left. I hate that I lost my sweet goats (one I had for 12 years) but it was my fault for not making the pen strong enough, or putting out enough motion lights. Now I have motion sirens too, and a much stronger pen.
My "flex" is that I've seen this rare, majestic animal from 8 feet away and survived! I did miss my chance to be a Groucho Marx joke:
"Last night I shot a lion in my pajamas! How it got in my pajamas, I'll never know!" 😆
(Yes, I know it's an elephant in the original joke, because that's funnier.)
At least I didn't become a funny Darwin award winner, I could have been killed by a puma while I was wearing my silliest set of pajamas, some tacky Nick & Nora ones with a print of garden gnomes hiding amongst big flowers.
Imagine the headline on that story! "Old Woman Killed By Lion But Not Eaten, Because of Bad Taste!"

Thank you so much for this, “Lazy I Ranch.“
      You’re a beautiful human being.
I weep every day over our precious endangered animals….

that's a brilliant joke 😂 this all reminds me of coyotes here in the southwest, as killing them can put their reproductive social order into chaos, paradoxically making them reproduce more if the wrong coyotes are killed. I guess the moral here is that killing is not protection, a good pen is.

Fortunately the Bald Eagle is still with us in 2023. I live in WA State and have a pair nesting across the street from where I live. They eat fish in a lake across the ay and I can see the diving down and catching trout and kokanee. And I live near a city so that is encouraging. Such beautiful creatures.

Star Trek IV got me concerned about wildlife when I was a small child, they showed videos of modern whaling vessels, and a Russian whaling shop almost killed the whales in the movie. I was dumbfounded to learn that was still happening in the 80's...still happening now.

obviously there is an issue with elephant hunting and big game hunting today because the populations are so low. with that important caveat it is true that hunters and more left leaning environmentalists can be important allies in protecting wildlife and natural habitat.

I do have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were part of the main cast? These are rarities much like all the other Dick Cavett interviews
