BRILLIANT! His rapid wit is so stellar it even outshines his good looks and charisma. A very interesting conversation. He and Dick Cavett had such marvellous rapport.
I was lucky to see Sir Roger on stage in Harrogate for one of those 'Evening with' shows a year or two before he died. He was sharp as a tack. Charming and funny. legend.
Sir Roger Moore..an absolute gentleman he had so much class ..the man was a real huma being...I also have lots of respect for Alain Delon as well..RIP sir Roger
Roger Moore had just the most acceptable, likeable voice. It's as though it's the perfect timbre, clear, not too posh. And to think he's actually a cockney. I don't blame him for affecting an RP accent. You've got to know what it takes to get ahead. Michael Caine changed his name, but not his accent, but I don't think both approaches take effort.
@@pmafterdark Yes my friend, I sadly know. What I mean, of course, is that some actors/musicians are immortal. One of my mothers favorites was Edith Piaf, still listens to her. Best Greetings from Sweden.

It's great seeing these old interviews with Roger Moore. He says that he's 44 years years old so that would make this show 1971 or early 72. At least a year before he would play James Bond in 'Live and Let Die'
Roger Moore, what a charming, amusing man. Not forgetting his dedication to UNICEF. Thanks for this clip of the other charming & amusing man - Dick Cavett! JaneR
that's what you get when a boy spends lots of quality time with a good and caring father. think about this all you who think money will buy happiness for your kids
Oh yes, very well said. I would say the same. Moore was too nice to be as convincing as Connery as the character, but as an actor and man Moore was the more charming and approachable.
My best friend Donna’s father is named Roger Moore and when he retired from the NYPD they gave him a plaque with the usual “thank you do your years of service “ on it and the nickname 007.

@@DonBean-ej4ou True! Still a lot of good officers on the frontline but they have no voice and their leaders are as you describe. The new Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police is a rare exception, hope he lasts.
Cavett became one of the all time great interviewers on TV ever. He got numerous Stars and celebrities to sit down and open up about their lives. His old shows are a gold mine. But he didn't find his footing on this one. Roger clearly had the edge on him and was using his show to promote Faberge and Brute Production's. But it still is a good revealing interview. That's Cavett's trademark.
when I was an inner city high school teacher in the mid-1980s I never understood why my teen male students were so wildly attracted to The Man With The Golden Gun out of all the Bonds. I was also a high schooler when I saw it originally in 1974 and didn't find it that special, although the fun house and Christopher Lee's Scaramanga were pretty boss.
I knew he had a production company but had no idea he produced 'Nightwatch' and 'A Touch of Class' - both were hugely successful. Despite his looks, he was actually super-smart and a high-achiever. During WW2 he was a base commander in Germany. He also owned a third of the rights to 'The Saint' and completely owned the rights to The Persuaders.
Roger was my favorite Bond character. And a smart accomplished guy. But this interview was early March 1972. And he said he was 44 years old. That means he was likely born in 1927. Which would make him 18 when WWII ended. So even if the Nazi's hadn't objected I find it hard to believe he could have been a Base Commander in Germany during the war.

I could listen to Roger Moore for hours - witty, charming, great voice. A master of self-irony and ease
I remember seeing him pick up his youngest child every afternoon from our school in Nice. He was still James Bond at the time.
Had the honor of meeting Sir Roger Moore in New York. He shook my hand. Every bit the humble gentleman he came off as on screen.
He was truly a very likeable man. He will be missed
Roger Moore had two character traits that most modern Hollywood types don't have: Class and Humility.

Roger Moore was awesome, just so cool
Roger Moore was the James Bond that I grew up with as a kid.
Same he was brilliant
Same he was brilliant
Me too. The first Bond I remember watching as a kid was "Live and Let Die." The first I saw in a movie house was "The Spy Who Loved Me."
Same here, he was great as Bond the only drawback IMO was he stayed in the role too long. He should’ve retired after For Your Eyes Only
Still the best Bond IMO.
